Wait, I just read Sanders has just been added to Norths NGA. What does that mean now? The academy rules confuse me, we were able to get Windhager and Owens because they fell bellow whatever pick it was, then last year we couldn't bid on Cam Mackenzie because of a change to the rules but this year Walter and Read can be matched by GC no matter where they are bid on.

Nothing. It doesn’t mean they have access to him in the first round - all the reporters are saying they won’t get access in their assistance package aswell

I don’t know. But you’re assuming alot.

They might want rid of Shiel.

We have told them we want a first round compo.

They get another pick and rid of Shiels contract and Gresham.

We take on Shiel a player SOS and Gubby love and get pick 13
Shiel is cooked, I doubt either of Gubby or SOS's love for him would still exist. He's at hest on par with Seb Ross these days.

I'd imagine this would 100% be a way to get a first round pick for Gresham and nothing else.

We'd be mad to look at Shiel in any other way than getting a good draft pick along with him

Relax. There’s different rules for GC. The rest can’t match bids in the top 40 so if we pick him with our first he’s ours.

See what next month brings

The only realistic chance seems to be if the Dons pay Gresh enough for us to get a Round 1 pick. End of Round 1 will be in the twenties. I sure hope that Gresh's manager is very persuasive.

Howard I doubt would get us a pick early enough.

I hope that I am just being overly negative, and that your dreams come true.

Vallisaris has been the best player in the VFL for most of the year. He's not very big but his numbers are ridiculous. He's probably a small forward in the AFL maybe high HF. I thought there would be more footage of him on line but hard to find. He's playing further from goal this year and looks like he's gone up levels.

Would he be worth a second or third Rd pick by your estimations Gringo?

They can match outside pick 40.

On SM-S908E using BigFooty.com mobile app

How would people feel if the offseason was essentially:

Gresham out = Henry in
Coff out = Dow in
Bytel out = Jordan in
Connelly out = Pick 12 in
Adams out = Pick 31 in

Howard stays
Billings stays

Upgrade Hammer from the rookie list and take 2 more rookies to cover he and Peris.

Peris was a Cat B Rookie. We already have the Irishman, but can still list another. Maybe one of our NGA's ?

Or they think they can get a year or 2 of decent football that improves our midfield out of Shiel

Granted. He had a bad season. But statistically it was similar to Ross’s. With us having no midfield depth and this deal apparently getting us pick 13.

It’s a no brainer.

Because if we have made it clear if we don't get good compensation for Gresham we match a force a trade.

Makes a lot of sense for the Bombers rather than giving up a good pick.

Shiel is worthless now. It's just money off the books.

So basically we are trying to get them to pay more for Gresh and turn him into pick 13? I'd rather match to be honest. Shiel is very ordinary so it's just us taking on their shit and paying them pick 40 to do it. Why would we do it? Geelong got a good FRDP for taking over Bowes. We are paying for them to make us worse and empty their bedpan in our bathwater.

If we can get pick 13 I'd do the deal , your just paying to get another first round pick - Shiel for one year I could live with that - we had Hannerbery for years and he hardly played.
From an integrity point of view. It’s no different to Bowes and pick 7

It resolves the potential conflict of Gresham wanting to go to Essendon and us matching.

Which the AFL will like.

I'd rather Gresham, Coff and Billings if we are speculating on players improving after injury and poor seasons.

Dylan Shiel. Paddy Dow.

We'll be the Harlem Globetrotters of the AFL.

If only we could get it done and keep Gresh's laser-like foot skills too.

If I have it correct.

He only has a year left on that massive Essendon deal he signed.

So by the end of 2024.

So it’s using our cap space to ensure we get a first round pick for Gresham and a replacement for 12 months

I'd be happy for Shiel to retire (he's no good, i d don't care about stats) and collect his pay cheque to get pick 13. Forget about the player, this is simply ensuring a better pick.

More a preseason supplementary or rookie pick up. He's worth a look but give him year and see how he goes. Don't want a long term commitment.

Not one of those 3 bring us pick 13

Then keep them and don't chase pick 13. Gresham is coming off a bad year but he has the talent to be a gun still. The others are just depth players that might surprise. They are no different to new draftees because if either can get right they are high potential.

Not saying I am his biggest fan, but last year Shiel averaged 6.1 clearences per game

Our best in 2023 was B.Crouch (5.4)
Our best in 2022 was B.Crouch (5.8)
Last player to top Shiel was prime Steele in 21 (6.2)

Its a clear area of need, and if Crouch gets injured we are f*****rked

Makes absolute sense from our perspective. People against it just need to white out the name Shiel. We’re getting a much better compo pick for salary.
