You are swapping Gresham for a pick. We are paying Essendon to push us into a higher band. No really good FRDP mids in this draft apart from McKercher and maybe Sanders. Then some more speculative ones like George Stephens and some of the more outside types like Demattia and Wilson.

I'd say take best available and try to wait until next year for chasing another while topping up with Dow and Henry types.
There is no guarantee we get another first round next year.

Next year is also potentially a huge Free agent pool.

This gets more first round talent in the door that we can develop and join our core and sets us up to make a move at that free agent crop WHILST not impacting us onfield for losing Gresham

Can see the tree shaking has started. Yahhhhhhhh

Most likely scenario is Essendon offer band 1 package to Gresham, giving us picks 12 &13 (our pick 12 plus the band one compensation pick 13)

We take on Shiel as a salary dump for a nothing pick. Really nothing given by Essendon as they probably have to pay close to the mark anyway and it gets Shiel off their list. Win for us and win for the Injectors.

Shiel may be with Billings playing for Sandy, but this lets us go to the next round of tree shaking where we see what picks 12 & 13 get us. Yahhhhhhhhhhhh

And for the record…

I’m not saying I knew about the proposal the HSun has written about.

Just the below, which is some of what I’ve shared.

  • we have wanted multiple picks in this first round (2-3)
  • Happy to let Gresham and Howard go to facilitate
  • found out we liked Shiel and he was gettable at the start of the week

- there could be another contracted player we are keen on, but I don’t know if that was referring to shiel or another.

- Membrey Paton Clark Billings Coffield are the other ones I mentioned are all gettable weeks ago.

So abit to play out.
The other could be Haynes…similar scenario!

Clearly not the point you silly sausage

If you back Gresham to come good you try to keep him. Selling a player off for picks is a good move if you think he's done but Gresham is young and good. I'd rather hold than speculate on a pick 13 in an ordinary draft. Probably blows out a few spots with compo to North getting two more picks before ours.

We had better not try on the age of the list as an excuse next year. They made their bed they should take responsibility for them.

Pick 13 along with our pick 12.

Then we potentially work our way up into the top 10.
So we take on Shiel and his salary.
Bombers take Gresh on a large enough salary to get us first round compo ie #13.
Sounds a bit like tampering…would the AFL allow it?
After the Geelong / Bowes thing they should.
At least we can see a little creativity from our list management team - which is encouraging.

Gringo whenever something leaks about SoS’s intentions to improve

Season 5 Episode 6 GIF by Sony Pictures Television

I was hoping that we were beyond dumb moves for the sake of them. Sos wants to go big and so going to shit up the place in his fist trade period.

We've always been creative. Just not very competent.

He is on a 1 year deal

We get pick 13 and Gresh wants to go.

What exactly is wrong here for you?

It must be realized the only reason Gresham was not dropped this year because we had no one to replace him - next year is going to be a different story.
Fully expect Henry and Dow to be ahead of him.

We are taking on Shiel and losing players to fit him. Not for a pick but a slight upgrade on Gresham compo. Not sure we are getting anything much out of it but another waste of a spot. If no-one is offering enough for Gresham we should keep him IMO.

So another year wasted advertising hope some half forward flanker in a week.draft can run through the mids in maybe 3 years.

We need to go all for pick 4 and get Sanders or Duursma.
I am.sick.of the constant midfield nothingness of our table standings.

We need to take risks and we get a top quality mid. What is wrong with that? And we still have depth in Sheil.

Could just take Mckercher at 5

Gresham is the one wanting to leave.

You understand that right?
