Just mind boggling, I don't understand the media, they attack every other under performing coach but not this campaigner Hinkley, why.

The weird thing is, beyond the mainstream of Fox, Seven, Nine and the newspaper dailies, nobody below that tier wants to zag on Hinkley either.

ESPN through to The Roar periodically promote articles dropping pearls of wisdom like “did you know Hinkley has a superior win% to Clarko, Choco and Dimma??!!” and “even his most ardent critics have to admit his tenure has been a success!”

While every two-bit wannabe sports podcaster on Twitter thinks the way towards promoting themselves and gaining traction in an oversaturated marketplace is to parrot the takes of Whateley, Rucci and Kane.

Peaky bonkers.

AFLtables has the gory details. Bill Stephen, 258 games, 0 GF. Hinkley passed Terry Wallace at the end of last season and will pass Stephen in Round 11 this year. Koch has made sure the record is never beaten, as he's contracted Hinkley for a further 35 games after that.
I wonder if anyone in management will go down for Hinkley's failure if he's ever fired or quits, since Port who professes premierships are its identity will have the record for having the most unsuccessful coach in history. It's highly unlikely he will make a grand final, there's just too many better coaches than him that are better at managing teams.

Winning premierships hasn't been part of our identity for years. You've got to remember we're not in the SNAFL anymore.

Koch has publicly stated that despite never even making a Grand Final Hinkley is the most successful PAFC coach in the AFL era. Anyone that says otherwise is just a "hater".

Nope, there'll be no accountability as all levels of management have doubled down here - Koch, the Board, the CEO. His direct superior, the DoF, is even in gambling syndicates with him.

My guess (completely uneducated) is that we will see significant change at all levels when Hinkley finally decides he no longer wants the job, as there will very much be a 'new broom' groundswell.

Choco made 17 finals matches, won 8, lost 9, won 1 premiership, made 2 grand finals in 9 seasons. Compared to Hinkley's 12 finals matches with 5 wins, 7 losses, and no grand final in 11 seasons, and only 2 finals wins in the last 9 seasons. Their management aren't interested in success, and somehow Hinkley is the ultimate used car salesman. Geelong's Ford dealership taught Kenny well. It reminds me of North Melbourne, but to their credit, after giving amble opportunity to Brad Scott, they finally got rid of him, and have since gone with an actual successful premiership coach.

I've been banging this drum for a while now, but IMO it's because there is an AFL directive for Port to be managed on an austerity model until the debt has been reduced. That means the priority isn't doing what it takes to win a premiership, it means the priority is to build a mid-range club with a conforming supporter base and admin staff that don't rock the boat. The key media who drive the pro-Hinkley message are all either mouthpeices for the AFL or the club. Wilson/Whately (AFL) Rucci/Cornes (PAFC)

Whatever metrics the AFL have given David Cuck to meet, we either haven't yet met them or that the current leadership of the club is happier to continue on that path-of-least-resistance to maintain their fiefdom.

Careful, Koch might take this up as a challenge after Ken passes away.

with hologram concerts being normalised it's only a matter of time before we get hologram coaches. it's not like our coach makes on-the-fly human-esque tactical changes anyway, everything he thinks is set in stone, probably the easiest person to digitalise

"On a win loss basis" lol

Ok so ignoring where and how the losses stack up, and who the accumulated wins are against. Deep analysis that.

And nobody calls him on this sh¡t.

Imagine how long the Carlton, Collingwood or West Coast chairman would last if they said that publicly.

Koch is right about one thing - Ken's record does indeed speak for itself.......but not the way he means.

This is possibly one of the dumbest reasons to keep on a dud coach.

“I think also people have to understand that in two week’s time, there are a whole bunch of players at the end of the year when they’re looking to see what other opportunities may be around at other clubs and a key part of those players’ due diligence is who the coach is going to be. - D Koch"

It seems this would be so, although also think theres an element of Koch doubling down on his hitched wagon, hoping that his decisions time and time again to re-sign him pay off. Much like a problem gambler not admitting defeat.

Having said that I have no doubt if Hinkley does finally leave without a flag, Koch will hammer on about how successful his tenure has been and what an achievement now we have "lots of fans" and a record "winning streak". Backed up of coarse by the media buffoons.

What would be ideal would be for Ken's successor to win a flag in his first year, to hammer home the point that Ken wasn't up to it.

Ken's the type of guy to use the old "I just loosened it for you" when someone opens the jar of strawberry jam that he couldn't open previously. Same would apply here.

The obvious reply would be, "Well how come you weren't able to win a flag of your own in the 47 years you were in charge?"

David Koch has stated a number of times that he "looks at the data". It's clear he hasn't got a clue as to how to interpret the data.

Can you imagine Whateley if something like this happened:

Kenny set the foundation, mapped the course & Josh Carr brought it home!

Those facts aren't even technically right. Phil Walsh has a 100% win record coaching Port as he not only won his one game in charge but did so by 112 points. Can't even call Hinkley a winner there, like everything else in his life.

As will Koch and all the happy clappers. None will ever admit they got it wrong.
