It was amateur hour ......and made a mockery of all the pre-season garble

"We were able to train with footballs, and hone our skills"

1. Well, there was only one side one grabbing the ball tonight
2. There was only one side that continued to slip over
3. There was only one side, whose players didn't keep spoiling and running into teammates
4. And there was only one side who moved the ball quicker than treakle
5. And there was only one side, whose head wasn't big enough to drink their own bath water ....and believe they were destined for Finals

AND IT WASN'T THE CROWS !

Crouch got 39 possessions, but back to his old ways ....slowing us down ...we are a worse midfield with him in it .....and either he or Laird has to go

Smith ....WOW, how bad can a player play

Berry ....or should I say fumbles Berry ....how many turnovers did he present to GEEL

Hinge ....forget the possession count ...he was caught in no-man's land defending time & time again .....another bath water drinker

ROB ....again not marking anything ....you simply cannot rely on his output

Fogarty ....another who clearly demonstrated his inability to focus on the game for 100 min

NICKS
In what world does any coach allow Tom Stewart to run around like an unregistered dog ....game losing move #1

In what world do you have your Captain tagging a 34 YO Danger ....he was never going to tear us a new one ....and we lost all drive from Dawson, our most direct MID ....game losing move #2

Congratulations on manning Stewart up in the last 10 min of the game .....just WOW !

There's no words to describe how bad that coaching performance was tonight
If that’s true Dawson was instructed to tag Danger then we are in bigger trouble than I first thought. Nicks isn’t a coach’s a-hole.

Burgess looked ok but even then isn’t really a second ruck option got moved out easily by the cats rucks.

Fog was good-ish shame about missing from 10m out but that was only putting paper over the large cracks had we come back from there.

Woz battled but I don’t think we can use him as a key defender on a Cameron/Curnow/Naughton type. He is better roaming and helping. But our lack of KPD has some what forced our hand there I understand.

Most has probably already been said about the crew that need to have some time in the SANFL. Murph, Smith leading the pack there.

I feel like this time last year there was some enthusiasm with some new faces and fresh blood putting pressure on positions this year it has just been back the boys in which is disappointing. I’d rather see us go down with some youngsters/fresh-ish faces than playing the same old same old. Something about the definition of insanity in there I am sure.

Another one I did see mentioned was the lack of Murray and I couldn’t agree more. For a bloke that’s played 30 odd games the sooner we get him back the better.

Dawson has worked his way into both games to a degree but started slowly

We really need him to stamp himself on proceedings at the start of games. Set the tone. The slow starts have plagued us a bit

It was more a head-to-head battle than a tagging role

Dawson did it last year too sometimes. Take responsibility for the opposition's best midfielder

Not sure if I like it

I posted this about Dawson last night ....not the confident Dawson we know

He looks spaced out .....not in the football zone at all ....slow, reactionary, casual

Well, if Danger is GEEL's best midfielder at 34 ....then our midfield has a lot to answer for, getting beaten so convincingly

Or is it ....no Sloane, no Crows

Really felt like a regression last night

It was back to old Crows. Win lots of ball, bomb it long and high, get smashed in the air.

Last year we'd got better at lifting the eyes, hitting up short passes, running it through the middle. Much harder to defend and played to the strengths of our forwards who are clever players. Even our talls are largely leading players, not pack-busters.

The ball movement was blinkered and predictable last night.

Need a complete reset during the week. The personnel are capable

The midfield they put out just don't have the skills apart from Dawson.

The Geelong midfield aren't exactly fast but they made ours looked so slow

If you can't kick it to advantage you need to run and we again had no run, anywhere on the ground.

Rankine was the only one that looked comfortable in the heat and the pace.

* me this is exactly the kind of horseshit that gets us into this mess. It's no wonder the club keeps doing it when supporters like you endorse it.
Yeah, we should just accept selfish awful performances.

He ignored his team mates in a better position all night & went for glory.

I'm a Pedlar fan but he needs an absolute rocket after last night.

This is the week to make at least 4 changes as there are some players who have now had 2 very ordinary games.

Apparently Geelong kicked their most goals from centre bounce since the grand final
Hardly surprising with that combination. This is exactly what led to crouch demise last time when we finally woke up to the fact you can't play Laird and Crouch together. Although this time, I suspect it will be Laird that makes way.

Making this worse, the chop out was Berry who is pretty much of the same mould. Slow, contested player with very average skills under pressure.

You missed the part where we move it slowly up the ground with kick pass game and then bomb it long after we’ve given time to the opposition to flood our defence.

It’s a truly brilliant game plan to turn our forwward threats into the best last year to mediocre in one preseason. Master coach stuff

Rankine
Thilthorpe
Pedlar
Rachelle
Soligo
Max M
Worrell
Fog
Milera
Nank
That’s naming ones I have seen, don’t tell me there is no talent in theses names, what does concern me is we are not going to see them achieve their potential and be wasted if something isn’t done very quickly
Unfortunately not one of them is a truly elite mid.

The game starts there. It is where we get burnt.

Thanks Hamish Ogilvie.

And yes Rachele/Sog/Rankine will be midfielders. But Sog is more outside/wing Rach and Rankine mid forwards.

Curtin is probably our only truly elite midfield prospect.

But he will spend his first few seasons being a defender.

Thing that freaked me out the most last night was how utterly bereft of confidence pretty much every single player looked. Not a shred of leadership evident, no one was communicating, I actually really don’t buy this narrative that Nicks has been successful at rebuilding and instilling a “culture”
