Fought hard for 3.5 quarters. Got annihilation last 15 minutes.

Swans slicker, better skills, fitter, faster and wanted it more.

Defence and two way running terrible. But we had a few missing.

Wright will get weeks for that bump so I reckon Caddy plays next weekend in a hybrid forward role. Zach was immense.

Think it’s Weid over Caddy unfortunately.

As it was Lav over Hayes.

Same old story of being killed on transition. Very frustrating. But happy to win clearances again. Have been poor in that area for years, so would like that to be part of the new Essendon. Need to get Redders and Ridley back. Parish will obviously help too. Pleased to see Stringer end up with 3 following last week's 4 and gave away 1 to Gresh. Speaking of which, how good a pick up is he.

Need to have a serious look at playing Caddy now. Jones was so bad against Hawkes who are shite and have a poor defence that Caddy couldn't possibly be worse.

Had 6 beers at a brewery before, 5 beers at pub in Bondi then a fair few at the game, and some CCs. So I won’t chime into much casue the I was sitting nearly at the top and couldn’t make out a lot of the numbers. But I’ll tell you what. From where I sat the swans players kick it to swans players and they marked the ball. And we didn’t do that. Make of that what you will.

Just wanted to say I love watching Zach Merrett play. Criminally underrated player. He was awesome tonight and always seems to be against us.

We were competitive for most of the game, and really not out of the contest until Hind gave away a free kick in the d50.

Setters and Duz were awesome in the middle. Thought Gresh was great too. Menzie looked a bit of a no show.

Felt a bit sorry for Tsatas. He often seemed to be free but over looked by his team mates. Defensively he also seemed to give his man far too much space. Had a goal kicked on him early but didn't learn from it.

Feels strange this autopsy. We played a distinct brand, everyone was playing above their average output, our known weaknesses cost us in the end, but we kept fronting up and didn't get blown away. We play well, they played better, and we now have a sighter that we're about 5 goals off the competition pace-setters. Which sounds about right.

The weaknesses though...why is it that we're so uniquely rubbish defending transition? We've been the worst at it in the league for what feels like a decade. Multiple coaches, players, game plans. But a uniquely Essendon weakness. Needs to change if we want to ever get out of our mid-table mediocrity.

The "too physical" stuff is just a beat-up. Media need to fill column inches. TV pundits need to fill segments. Not much to it.

Even though I only watched it on my phone and was unable to give it my full attention I really enjoyed the game.

It was a tough physical contest with lots of niggle, who as as spectator doesn't love games like that?

I hope it is as glaringly obvious to the coaching staff and team that our defensive transition is abysmal. It is clearly not a talent issue, it is a coaching and brains/will power issue.

Does anyone have any actual insight on why we are so poor at defending through the middle beyond x player is lazy?

Made the track to sidny.

Man, it was weird. It truly is a home game, that ground is like an alter to all things Sydney

Every time they get a goal you're ear r*ped for like 30 seconds of obnoxious 80s hits.

We had next to no support. It was so weird screaming ball when it was just me in a bay. I felt like I was a schizophrenic

Hadn’t seen Brad’s presser yet so thanks for transcribing 👍
