surely that is the whole point of having him with us this year.
He is still very young though. Big ask to expect him to go straight into the AFL side and hold down a key position role for most of the year.

If Tex is there he can take the bulk of the load and the we can ease Welsh into it. If Tex is gone then our only other option is Burgess if Welsh isn't ready.

Welsh will be fine as the 3rd tall - 4th or 5th forward. Fog and Thilthorpe to take the main load with Rankine and Rachele

And don’t reduce the offer after he agrees to it like last time…

Balme did an interview on why he didn’t come on 5AA. He flat out said he was coming and Gale refused to let him out of his contract. He didn’t want to end things ugly with the Tigers so he put it to bed

I'm of the opinion that Welsh should have 10 games thats targeted at '' less performing clubs '' or suitable matchups

He would play as a 3rd tall after RT and Fog so I wouldnt expect too much attention. Just urge him to watch the set ups but run different patterns ie DONT GET IN RT AND FOGS WAY - and play a decoy role.

Find the pace and the strength of the game and learn learn learn. I would focus on the positive traits rather than fill his head with defend defend defend. Not that not defending when its your turn isnt ok - but play HIS game

Burgess is horrible, an easy delist end of the year.
He would be an "easy delist", if we weren't also looking at losing Walker (retire), Berg (GWS - as a FA) and Gollant (delist). That leaves us with just Fog, Thilthorpe and (1st year draftee) Welsh as our only tall forwards. We may have no alternative but to keep Burgess.

Or keep Tex.

OK... I forgot Toby Murray. Doesn't alter the fact that we'd be desperately short of tall forwards if we let all of Walker, Berg, Gollant & Burgess go.

If that were to happen then we'd see a lot more of Borlase in the forward line - and his goal kicking makes ROB look like Plugger Lockett.

We could draft another one, even another mature ager if we want. He’s not the only option for kpf depth.

Sure... but what's the likelihood of that person being any better (and I agree that Burgess is garbage)?

At this point we're expecting a top-5 pick, hopefully to be used on a GUN midfielder. We'll be using our 2nd round pick (actually Melbourne's) will be chewed up with points for Welsh. That means we're talking about DFAs or players selected VERY late in the draft.

I'd draft WWT Charlie West a very athletic 196cm KPF/ruck IMO the best contested mark in the 2024 SA U18 squad who hasn't been given the opportunity by SA Coach Tony Bamford he deserves thus far only getting a go in the last game but nor selected for the 1at two. Could even be a rookie chance given his lack of opportunity by the SA coaches.

His kick like to be on the same level as rob...

Personal opinion, but I'd rather keep Gollant than Burgess.

Another developing tall will be needed if there's an exodus.

Fascinating times given we've missed on Hayward, McCluggage, Gulden etc. Have we moved to Lukosous (and drafting a mid with pick 5)?

Like clockwork. A few weeks ago I saw tex in an interview say he had to weigh a lot of stuff up before deciding if he wants to go around again. Body was one of the factors mentioned, so it’s odd that as it’s gotten worse, he’s now applying the screws.
Tex will not go beyond this year
Edit : He knows it and the media BS is click bait noise

It's hard to see how he thinks he can do another season and a half of AFL. He would need to come back and play a strong block of games towards the end of this year.

Then he'd have another full preseason to get though.
