It's more about the experience around them and not being able to get better top up players (e.g. recent AFL delistees). That's been an issue with it from day one.

I honestly think our player development was better BEFORE we had an SANFL team.

Players played in their actual positions, for proper teams that actually wanted success.

It's hard to see how he thinks he can do another season and a half of AFL. He would need to come back and play a strong block of games towards the end of this year.

Then he'd have another full preseason to get though.
If Sloane could get an extension last year Tex can probably get 3/900k

Media BS is much more likely his agent backgrounding media to force the club’s hand. It’s not like we haven’t seen it before.
I though Walker said that he will decide at the end of the season whether his body will allow him to play next year, maybe more media BS by him.......

He said he was still making up his mind and had to consider aspects like form, body, mental and family. What he didn’t say was involved was that the club needed to offer an extra year. I reckon he’s made up his mind, although it probably already was and his agent was working at getting it done. That’s not succeeding yet and plan B has been deployed.

Balme could do 1 day a week at the club for all I care and he would still be more effective and valuable than Kelly, VB, Nicks, Silvers combined on a full time basis.
He just needs to be a filter for our ideas

Hey Balmey...? You like Luke Pedlar as a forward tagger on Tom Stewart?

Nup.

Balmey...? Dan Curtin deep in defence on a gorilla?

Nup. Oh, and you're fired.

Really do t care if you believe or not but it came from a source extremely close to blame who would absolutely know

No one knows if it’s true, but what we do know is that he wanted to come and had a medical scare for a very treatable condition; it always felt like there was something else

Who knows, but this anecdote seems not impossible

Wasn't his point that Balme didn't come because we backtracked on money?

Sounds absolutely implausible.

No. It’s not

It got leaked early (Rucci wasn’t it?); there was all sorts of push back about what it meant for Kelly’s job, was he being sacked, he hadn’t appeared to have been in the loop - and it got very messy

It was a done deal, then suddenly it wasn’t. Then it was more consultancy

It’s entirely plausible that we rowed back to a more advisory, more inclusive like role given the shit storm that blew up?

Did we? No idea.

But no, it’s not an implausible scenario

Finally some good news, can sleep easy now guys!

Balme did an interview on why he didn’t come on 5AA. He flat out said he was coming and Gale refused to let him out of his contract. He didn’t want to end things ugly with the Tigers so he put it to bed

Whilst reducing his role and sidelining him at Richmond.

I don’t think anyone believes he was being held to a contract

Whatever the truth, it was a mess

I’m aware of all the public reasons given

As I’ve said I was as surprised as anyone else but where I heard it simply couldn’t be disputed

I thought there must be good reason for the backtrack eg Covid cuts to cap but apparently it wasn’t seen that way (from memory it was along the lines of being offended)

Whst was the timing of burgess agreeing to join us? Maybe it was that which made us re budget. I’m not sure

The last 2-3 years prior to this year when we’ve had little injuries, we’ve had a strong side and played deep into finals, this hasn’t translated to development in the AFL, why?

Because the development of our players by the AFL coaches has been shit. We’ve seen it. They prefer experience at any opportunity. They’ll hold the young player back. If they are a young mid they get shunted to the half forward line and get close to zero midfield minutes.

We even have prioritised top up mids in the SANFL over our AFL listed mids. If we have more experienced mids playing it will only be worse.

Throw in shit drafting.

None of this is on the SANFL, none of it. It’s a cop out and a deflection of their shit development and drafting.

The only part I’d accept is the scheduling when our emergencies don’t get to play.

Spot on.

Both our AFL clubs are ducking responsibility that it is up to them to develop the players and in the roles they were drafted.

It is absolutely no coincidence that our AFL side has had it worst period since the SANFL side came in. And for those pointing to the 2015 - 2017 period, the majority of that group had been developed in the SANFL at the other SANFL clubs or traded in.

Why do you think he would be interested now if previously he was offened

Why do you think he would be interested now if previously he was offened
That did cross my mind
Can’t remember exactly if offended was the words but certainly not happy

Maybe he just doesn’t hold grudges

Maybe the family lure to return home that drove the interest last time now means he’s coming back regardless and like he said in the interview he still has the drive to keep busy and stay involved in a club role and he likes the challenge we present

Maybe because he knows Roo who supposedly lead this retreat is about to finish his final term so won’t be involved

I’ve no idea. I just know the source woukd know completely and can’t see why they’d make it up

If we don’t do that we are ****ing idiots.

I’d put him on the board as football director if he wanted to, that’s not full time or even on the board in other capacity but helping to consult.

Would be typical Adelaide to not use him properly or do what he say and he gets pissed and leaves

Then he'd have another full preseason to get though.

He tried to prove his fitness so he could play each week after the injury. He obviously still feels his body is up to playing nearly all games and still capable of carrying a fair degree of injury.
