The bit about it being his lifelong dream to be a Father Son for Carlton is going to cause some tears on the Richmond board
He ain't going anywhere else apart from the Blues. Cody: "Thanks Tiggies and cya."

“I’ve loved the Carlton footy club so much and they’ve done so much for me and I’m very thankful for them,” Walker said.

“There’s also Richmond in the corner, who have helped me with a lot of things as well. They do really well with the Aboriginal side of me. I’ve got a few mentors there that just teach me around the mental side and they’ve helped out with my early career playing in some academies. But I’m definitely starting to kick on a lot with Carlton right now.”

I am a bit concerned with this. Just because of who their Dad was, doesn't necessarily mean we should be selecting both.
We have overlooked a great many father-son prospects the Hickmott boys, Mantons, Charlie McKay, Hogg, Bradley, Deans, Sextons and others. They have to be good enough, and they genuinely look to be. If we don’t rate them, we won’t take them.

As for need, every club constantly adds midfield options. I am confident the naysayers will eat their words in a couple of years. The may be role players as opposed to superstars, but look very bankable, particularly if the draft cost begins in the second round.

My point is Aph, someone like Cody should not be eligible for NGA.
It's ridiculous that Cody and others are even in this conversation. Eligibility rules are incorrectly coded.

On this, apparently Port Adelaide FS prospect for 2027 Tevita Rodan's part of Essendon's NGA.

That's not good by me.

Weren't Northern Knights touted as "the worst run junior side" on here recently? And if so, is it true?

I have no idea but I remember being concerned about this when I read that.

A lot has changed since Kreuzer and Cotchin went 1 and 2 in 2007.

APS school footy has improved a lot since then, with scholarships, ex player involvement in coaching and specialised coaching (including video analysis on skills) from year 7 and up.

The Calder Cannon Football Factory (as BT used to call them) and Knights hardly produce draftees compared to Sandy and Oakleigh. Assumption used to be a football powerhouse back in the day.

Mix of Cripps and Walsh? No pressure kid...
  • Fourth-highest rated player at u16 champs
  • Avg 28 disp, 7 clearances, 6.7 score involvements, 140 ranking points
  • Is in Richmond NGA and loves the work they have done from the Aboriginal/mindset side of things
  • Has lived and breathed Carlton since a baby
  • Cripps and Walsh messaged him before and after champs

how did Jamara go to the Dogs as pick 1 - were the NGA rules different back then?

Jamara was what (camel's back) pushed the AFL to act.

The year after (?) they changed it so NGA could not be matched in top 20. The following year they moved it to top 40 (how we got Jesse Motlop).

Word is the AFL will roll this back (giving NGA clubs the ability to match bids earlier) but it will be more expensive than current to match.

I went to high school with David Rodan and first heard the name Tevita 25 years ago. The name is David in Fijian.

Dees would be fuming on missing Mac Andrew.

Simon Garlick on SEN during the week having a whinge about missing out on Jesse Motlop.

They had 3 ****ing picks before we selected him!!! They ran the gauntlet and lost.
To be fair the Dees got Van Rooyen, Howes and Woewodin in the draft that Mac Andrew went and they would have used pretty much all of their points on Andrew and not got any of the other 3.

I am sure this was discussed when the NGA zones were set up but why weren't we given a rural zone along with our northern metro zone? To my understanding we are the only club without a rural zone. It would have been nice to get the Bendigo area to reconnect to the old VFL zone area given past greats that joined us back in the zone days such as Geoff Southby, Jimmy Buckley, Rod Ashman and Adrian Gallagher.
