Much tougher draw. Lots of good teams will be there and about- Saints, Freo, GC, GWS, Hawks, Swans, Port, Blues, Pies, Lions. WE WILL NOT START 7-0 TO GIVE US THAT BUFFER ALL SEASON.
The draw is not as big an influence now with gather to a adding a 6th double up. Most of the time all teams are going to get 2x top 6, 2x middle 6, 2x bottom 6.

I think we landed on our feet with this a bit because we're destined for Hawks double up which I think will knock out a top 4 double up for us. The other will likely be either Sydney or Brisbane.

The rest however could get hairy. The next bracket i would expect 2 double ups from Carlton/Collingwood/Saints where all underperformed and particularly Saints have a marvel history against us. Freo an option with their history at Kardinia.

Was a close game again at the Crows so they are an option but I think they'll go suns and a gimme in Richmond.

I expect they'll make it as hard a possible

Not sure if this has been answered:

  • Bruhn, hip/groin issue apparently from the second quarter
  • J. Henry, he went to the bench in the fourth and took his boot off to get something looked at. I've seen it reported as a toe issue
  • Holmes, hamstring
  • Stanley, knee and following his shot on goal with 30 seconds to go, he couldn't put any pressure through the leg/knee that he had heavily strapped. He looked in agony

And not sure how true it is as I've only read it from one place, but someone suggested Dangerfield may have hurt ribs
Oh God, two years out coming up for jack if our clubs handling of toe issues is a historic guide

There is a huge gap between 'choked', which means a team has failed due to psychological weakness, and 'failing to take advantage of their home advantage'.

I'm not overly committed to the term "choked" so if you prefer another phrase in order that the psychological element be taken out, then I'm happy to modify my phrasing. It's a loaded term so I probably could have used a different word. I guess I just think we underperformed. Whether that's due to psychological reasons I'm not sure, but I don't think we delivered to our maximum level last night. And that's something that's happened too many times to us on the preliminary final stage.

Gotta hand it to you Dubs.

A reverse moz 6 months out from the season when the fixture hasn't even been released yet is voodoo level preparation.

That's commitment right there. We can all learn from that.

But as Fagan said, and not Geelong’s fault, but the lack of pressure v WCE and Port with a week off after each game was always going to be a factor, and it was. Those first 4 behinds- pressure. We were great to get a home prelim, but it was not going to be enough against a team that has the talent to be a #1-2 team.

What a weirdly defeatist attitude. I'm temperamentally pessimistic like yourself, but even I didn't think we had no chance going into last night's game. No way was the result a foregone conclusion.

I'm not celebrating the loss, I am being pragmatic as to where we are. And that we got to a PF is extraordinary - we can celebrate that.

Should we/could we have won? Sure. But realistically the better team on the day got the choccies.
Yeah, fine for us. Just just tricking for the coaching group to regain control of the narrative that we have work to do

That was my pass mark for this year, too.

Same here.

I think our b22 next year will be quite decent (apart from ruck and midfield which are still big problems) but the retirements will mean we have very little depth if we get injuries. So a bad injury run and I can see us well outside finals if the key players stay fit i think the bottom half of the 8 is more realistic.

That's literally the opposite of what Mad_Hatter was saying, You're calling out yourself.

It's only those like you who expect to win the flag every year, and then scream of "complacency" & "arrogance" when it doesn't happen.

It couldn't possibly be that we were beaten by a better side on the day. It's all up to us, our coaches, and our players. That's what you say, right?

Most rational people here are well aware that we have shortcomings, and they're proud - albeit disappointed - at the result.

You on the other hand have already decided that it's a failure, that it's the coaches fault, and that certain players are spuds.

It's incredible that you can find so much wrong with this club, it's coach, and his players...and then still decide that they have to win the flag or it's a failure.

It takes an extraordinary amount of hubris to not understand that you're calling out the exact thing that you do.

Honestly, I'm impressed.
So what do you propose Scott should have done in the coaches’ box after HOLMES went off? You’ve been at him all day…
Get him off and get Duncan on. Quite obvious, but they waited 30+ minutes.

Why do you say we will be lower next year? I think we will be better next year if we dont strike an injury curse.

I think that a lot of the key older guys left like danger and blicavs will hit the wall and im not sure the clark clohesy etc types are fully ready to step up and replace them and i worry about our ruck setup and our tall stocks generally.
But this could change depending on our trade and draft period.

Oh dear ! Been saying Brisbane are the best team in it for weeks, yet get on this board and it’s all good that we were playing Brisbane and not GWS and should be shorter in the betting. Best coach Scott against a non tactical coach in Fagan and that particular battle would be no contest. So when that doesn’t happen and Geelong lose then obviously it’s a failure…. Don’t you get that? Haha
Oh boy zebra crossing ahead!
I’m calling you out for all your failed narratives….. look at my final seeds all the way 1. Sydney 2. Brisbane
Get with it zebra!

Traffic jams when you're already late are NOT ironic Alanis!

Get ready earlier.

Haha. Every neutral is saying how good a final it was so I wanted to re-watch it as being at the ground it just looked like we were sloppy AF and didn't take our chances.

Your observation at the ground was bang on.
The first quarter we could have ripped their hearts from their chests if we only kicked straight. We lost it there and then.
