On the other hand, coaching makes a big difference. Hawthorn were bad for years and now are good due to good list management and a good (new) coach. The Pies were 17th in 2021 and looked very much like they were in need of a rebuild, and then with a new coach and system they placed 4th in 2022 and then won the flag in 2023. There’s something to be said for believing hat a new coach can do a lot to turn around the fortunes of a club which had basically just stopped buying in to the previous coaching staff and system.

Yeah you never know, maybe you've already got the pieces of the puzzle in place and none of us has realised it until McQ took over the ship.

Because it's highly unlikely any other club goes near him, as he's refused to speak with any other clubs.

Richmond now have a massive hand of draft picks but I think the hurt they are going to feel by losing pretty much half their best 22 players in the past 2 years is being a little undersold.
And not just half either but many in the top echelon of players, Dusty, Bolton, Rioli, Riewoldt, Grimes, Cotchin, Baker.
This is going to have an effect, look at this year when they just lost a few and had some injuries.
We know what happens when you field a team when half are 1st-2nd year players.

On Bailey Smith they are specifically talking the national draft not the PSD so someone would need to use a higher first round pick on player who doesn't want to go to them which would be risky.
