Actually, until I read this post I hadn't even thought about whether the clock was counting up or down. It was just an exciting finish. I don't think I'm too fussed either way.

For spectator viewing distances from the action, I always preferred Princes Park. I think it was a narrower ground, which meant you could still see what was going on on the far wing much more clearly than at the MCG.

I think that once you get up around the 20 team mark any code would have to start looking at 2 division, promotion, relegation, etc. Without it, there are a lot of teams that have nothing to play for in the latter half of the season (though you could say that already, with a 16 team comp!).

I would guess that the reason for a three year period would be to ensure that there is more regular competition between countries, as for many of them there is not the opportunity for regular international fixtures. Things like the European Cup are great, and will fill the gap for the EU...

How is any team expected to build support with the quality of football that the Melbourne team has dished up recently? Any club's fortunes are tied up in its on-field performance, and Melbourne just doesn't seem to be able to turn it around for any sustained period of time.

Though it's in the network's interests to talk down the amount of money that they are prepared to pay. Why would they want to be talking about an extra 20% at this stage?
