Aww man, I really thought we'd get the next five #1 draft picks which we karmically deserve ;)
Oh, and ausbacker... best Eagles fan ever! There may be hope yet. Hmmm, I still prefer not.
Thought it was a very well said, in a positive manner, by Palmer. Made me a bit more sorry that he's gone. He really did love the club and want to be here - and I think he had the skills too.
Oh well, I think Crozier could be even more special, but will always have a soft spot for Rhys.
Tis true. Surround a wayward bloke by a team of hard-nut premiership players... well unfortunately we can't do that. Makes a difference.
Do we even have any ring-in Premiership players left now that Des & Josh are gone?
It's quite funny actually, I've read a lot of other team boards to see what they think about their picks. Hard not to find a quote "WTF, another flanker/half back/skinny kid" in nearly every board and about 8 teams' fans screaming "why didn't we get Kersten, travesty!". I think the AFL...
Someone said something like this earlier, but if we picked Tunbridge, Bosley, Frost or Manson people probably would've been happy... notwithstanding the fact that 17 other clubs proved they were unworthy! Just like 16 or so clubs that didn't think Kersten was worth picks 12 through 34.
OK...
Re: FFC Welcomes Pick 20
Those athletic types can sometimes be lacking the football brain... sounds like Crozier has both! Very exciting.
I think in a shallow draft we went for players with a bit of X factor. Sheridan seems to have uncanny awareness (football smarts too), Forster (not sure)...
I trust the plethora of full-timers who worked on this got it right. As Alistair Clarkson said, the tall forwards are a dying breed. Most marks are taken on the lead etc.
Reminds me of the people who sit behind me at the Freo games and complain about handballs and backwards kicks about 10...
I think if they made a stand and a fuss to hang on to him and he left in 12 months anyway, when a few other contracts were expiring too, then it would've created a big public image that GWS couldn't hang on to their players.
I think they've let Tunbridge go very quietly and made it seem like...
I don't think we want to be top 4 for 1 or 2 years, we want "sustained success". If we get Davis we'll have 6 or so blokes in their 30's very shortly - I don't see how this is a good list management strategy.
Would prefer a balanced list, with some guns/veterans and with some youngsters...
Hahaha, gold. Thanks for the help... was wondering how to fast track my development from n00b. Was either your advice or the Luc Longley Leadership Program, but I prefer the former ;-)
Good point, I'm scared of the AFL website. I used this site:
http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web/player_rankings?team_id=0&yr=2011&sp=SE&rt=LA&fc=E1
They're the stats the coaches use! Why would they lie to me, I thought we were friends? ;-)
Either way, I just think other things are more...
Maybe swept it under the rug to not give any of the other youngsters any second thoughts. If they whinged about it, perhaps the others would've seen it as being an out.
Drafting is calculated risks I reckon - he might be worth 29, but with no West Coast picks and a bit of trepidation about...
Ha! Tom Hawkins. Impressive, one game at least.
Didn't say it was a useless skill, just less important than it used to be and not the be all and end all.
Only 1 player averaged more than 2 contested marks a game this year (min 5. games). Just saying, no use whinging about Kersten's lack...
They probably have more pressing needs, but a quality third tall seems to be popular these days aka Kennedy, Lynch and Darling at WCE.
As for his height, it would only really be relevant in contested marking - not something which happens a whole heap in the modern game. Endurance, speed and...
Mundy/Fyfe are possibly in the top 10-20 midfielders in the comp if they have good years. Pav is one of the best forwards going around if he plays there and a pretty good midfielder too.
But for his position, a vitally important position as it's generally involved in every single stoppage...
LOL. To be fair, Collingwood have won multiple premierships - 2 in the last 53 years. Hopefully Freo win a couple in their next 35 years to equal them as such a juggernaught of the comp.
This sounds about right... that AFL article mentions that Crows SANFL players had to play 200 before 1990 (their inception). Despite being silent for us, you'd think it'd be the same.
Funny though that SA teams have to have theirs play 200 games compared to 150 for the WA teams. Did they play...
In the present climate, is that a big risk? Brisbane let Mitch Clark come out of contract, we let Rhys Palmer etc. Even if Tippet wants to leave Adelaide after this year, Adelaide will still suck out a reasonable-to-good deal for him. He won't qualify for free agency.
Haha, funny stuff. 16 other clubs didn't get Clark, just like us (lucky buggers). They should be having a go at Brisbane... oh wait, Brisbane ripped them off, I can see why they'd troll here.
All I can say is, stay classy Freo fans, stay classy.
I know what you're saying, but pick 16 would mean we'd come third (depending on comp picks activated).
I'm surprised no one has suggested pick 20 and JVB yet, with Clancee Pearce as a sweetener ;)
Freo can't win. We pay too much for players... we don't pay enough for players.
I just think everyone feels threatened by the Dockers. Passionate fans, great culture, financially strong etc while other clubs hover slightly above poverty. Jealousy is a curse.
