20k, 2017 against the Bulldogs at Subi. We won that one
That crowd was 28865, in a stadium that only held 43k. That's your reference point for the improvement on crowds. By that metric, Lyon's team increased the crowds from 2017 to 2019.

Oi where was the love for Young this game?? He was one of out best tonight! His kicking setup a lot of our goals, couldn't be tackled, won contested ball, just so many positives. I think his move to the midfield might be inevitable if he keeps playing like that.

Four points
A percentage boost
Some good runs on the board for the kids
Jackson did pretty good
Mob up the road still bottom
I had a decent Saturday night
Life is good
—-
Treacy started okay then faded big time
Pearce is cooked
So many turnovers
We may not win another game for a while

All in all. Meh. But let’s enjoy tonight. It’s not about this year anymore. Get some XP. Blood some more kids. And try not to finish bottom four

It was an important win to keep everyone’s spirits up after a tough season so far. The starlight kids were great too and there was a real feel-good atmosphere around after the game which you could easily pick up through the broadcast. After a crappy few weeks where fans were getting annoyed and frustrated, it buys the coaching team a bit of time.
However that was as soft a kill as you will ever get at AFL level. Some of the stuff Hawks were doing was so poor it was hard to believe. When Frost pushed Amiss over for that 50m pen early on, after Sicily had given away a similar dumb one to Treacy, I genuinely wondered were they deliberately doing it? It’s a bold strategy by hawthorn to become so uncompetitive in the hunt for one player and I think they are many years away from contention.

It’s now becoming clear there are 15 teams in this league and the bottom 3 are going to be cut adrift as cannon fodder. Teams that get to play north, hawks or eagles twice or more are getting a nice leg up (and we are one of those thankfully).

Some positives today that I thought might be worth something beyond the quality of the opponent were:

  • Erasmus played a full game and showed heart and spirit and determination. I loved it. He’s nothing flashy, but he throws himself into everything and looks like he cares. Some nice work in tight and looked like he belonged at todays level at least. Has to stay in from now on.
  • Fyfe is back. Why does he have to play forward. Why??
We were just monstered at clearance (again) by the worst team in the AFL. We are too ****ing small in the midfield and Fyfe just has to go back in there. He’s a clearance beast, but a pretty ordinary forward. I want Fyfe at Darcy’s feet roving as much as possible because he’s still the best player on the Fremantle list in that role. End of story.
Anyone who thinks we can go out on the MCG in 3 weeks with our midget brigade midfield of JOM, Brayshaw, Serong and Aish, against Petracca, Oliver, Viney and gawn/Grundy needs to get off the Kool aid. They will just stand there laughing at our dwarves before beating us by 60 points. Fyfe has to play mainly midfield.
  • amiss came flying out in the lead a few times and took several difficult marks at full speed, arms outstretched, sprinting into the football. None of our other forwards can do that. He’s going to be such a quality player once he hits 40 games or so.
  • jackson was class. So dynamic at ground level and 16 contested possessions. I’m not worried about this trade being a bust at all. He’s a better goal kicker than I realised too. His ball drop is miles better than Fyfe as an example. I think we will win about 10 games, come 11th and Melbourne will be selecting with the 10th pick and 30th pick on draft night.
Pick 15, pick 10 and pick 30 for Luke Jackson and Max Knobel? I can live with that.
- Brayshaw looked back to his old self. We need him firing to have any chance of picking up wins against the decent sides.

It’s a good confidence boost heading to the SCG next week but I still think we are a long shot to come away from there with a win. Let’s see how they go tomorrow against the pies first I guess.

I agree with most here but I think it’s worth saying that Hawks might be the worst team in AFL but they are strong in contested ball and clearances, it is basically their sole strong point.

After that Ras game, I’m confident we have the size and contest we need with Ras and Johnson added to Serong and Brayshaw, just needs time

That Noddy is a bigger unit than I thought. Tall, strong with massive legs - with little effort he seems to gain more distance running and kicking the ball.

He could really be something.
He’s one of those players that drops horribly out of form and touch when he’s not playing regularly I reckon. Some good raw material there but he’s got plenty of work to do still.

I wouldmy mind seeing Serong try get his head up a bit and compose himself before before kicking I 50. He’s tends to throw it on the boot a lot. Nitpicking maybe but he can get better there I feel.

Thought Walker was superb. Goodness me I love his raw speed over the first 10m.
NEVER drop this kid again. 100 game Brandon Walker is a potential AA level player off half back

Hopefully but the issue there is MJ and Ras are at least 3 or 4 years away from competing with the Petracca and Bont types. What are we going to do in the meantime? Like, I loved Ras game tonight but he looked a good 12kg of muscle off where he needs to get to. It will be 2028 before he gets there.
