Of all the amazing reaches made on this board, this may be the biggest reach of all.
Yeah, it was all me and a few others - we were at the game booing him.

Not sure what other posters think but I’ve never bother booing anyone

Clearly a flawed footballer but he has had some great moments for us. I would suggest him and a couple of others that are regularly brought up, (like Aarts) are on minimum chips contracts which has helped us to keep together a lot of elite talent at the other end of the scale. A true team man who works hard and knows where he sits in the scheme of things.

I don’t believe George has been best 22 worthy for most of this year and I was frustrated that they went back to him and Aarts again instead of trying something new, Those decisions are not his though and he’s obviously doing everything he can for the good of the side which is why they keep him in the mix.

Will he stay in come finals? Who knows. At full strength I doubt it.
I do know he will have my strong support every time he runs out for Richmond, even if I do question match committee decisions.

I’m not a fan of some of the Posts on here tearing him to shreds. I’m all for Questioning the selection process, Discuss his form compared to those he’s competing with, sure.
But George is a Richmond man and doesn’t deserve his own army to turn on him.

here here . well said. 3 x premiership player , life member and a Richmond man yes out of form and not currently in the best 22. but do Tiger fan really need to boo him , that's not what tiger fan do lets leave that sh##t for the rabble teams and just for the record i to have sworn and yelled at some of his play

It's not the goal kicking that is a factor, would say Cotchin has missed as many gimme's as George. Richo missed a couple from memory. George in his peak was a good player. In 2019 playing mostly inside 50 he took the most inside 50 marks for us behind Jack. Okay, not a lot of competition but it was still significant. He was always a flawed player but for a few years his strengths outweighed his weaknesses, hence the 3 cups.

2022 is playing like he no longer believes in himself, reckon he knows he has been getting games mainly due to Hardwick's loyalty. He is reticent to take the game on, his main strength in our helta skelta style. We no longer play that style as much because with Lynch and Jack we have two targets. Our forward entries have been longer and straighter. Cumberland, Edwards and to a lesser extent MRJ have taken Georges spot inside 50 because they get the job done efficiently by and large.

So George is now a high half forward and he is not suited to it, he doesn't have the footskills. He would no more think about taking a mark up around the wing and swing inboard to try and hit a centre corridor player than fly. He will chip safely 20m sideways or assess the situation and bang it long to half forward/boundary line. Momentum killer.

No fault of George's other than he is getting picked each week. He is some value as a sub because he knows the structures and he adds speed and running power and he stops young players sitting in the dugout when they could be playing full games in the VFL. Very much doubt he will be in the side come finals time. You have to have respect for a player that has managed to get the best out of himself when so many 'better' players have not. 3 Premierships is one hell of a bonus.

Possible explanations for George selection
  • top 10 hardest trainer, setting standards that Stack etc need to match before they will be picked ahead of him.
  • it’s in his contract that if he plays X senior games per year he plays for free and we get salary cap relief.

That’s this year, but if you look at his tackle numbers for the last three years it’s fallen away a lot.
Pretty good argument HHF is in more contests

54% conversion isn’t great and we’d probably agree it’d be poor if you drilled down on the set shot conversion.
Regarding his tackle count, George does not get in and around the contest. His primary role it seems is to make long leads up to the wing to try and mark the ball out of the backline, which he can do due to his speed, but then he nearly always props and stops. Then do as Richmond like to do with Graham and Lambert, run hard into the forward line as part of a press. Not too bad at that as he sometimes gets involved using handball, his speed helps him. But nowhere near the bottom of a pack or skirting around it like Graham for example, his 1!! clearance for the year backs that up.

Yes his conversion rate is crap, but given he has only had 21 shots at goal in 15 matches this year for 12 goals, @ 1.5 shots at goal per game, not that significant. 4 or 5 of his 9 points may have been set shots so that is about average. Bolton would have a far higher average.

'Hardest trainer' is a Strathmore under 12s, or Chirnside Park under 10s concept.
Do you see the way AFL clubs train? Short, sharp precise drills and pre-season aside, they don't flog them week in-week out.
It's no longer the Hafey years of all out war, players are managed.
The concept of a standout trainer in August-September would not apply.

Has won the McDonalds junior burger award 3 times in his career. Easily best 22 🤪

Bro you are taking this way too seriously.

Good on you for putting forward your opinion, very consistently may I add

But at the end of the day it’s all about moving forward, you can’t gift games, you can’t live in the past. George’s time is over.

You know this is nothing to do with whether I think Castanga should be selected or not . It’s about being respectful and not being a toxic human being . Which I don’t think you have been all that guilty of compared to some.

It’s serious . Once you write something in a public forum you no longer know the effect it has .
Gifting games ? Have a think what that stupid line entails. It’s just petty and nasty. You mean you haven’t agreed with the coaches selection for the last 2 years and can’t find any facts to back up your feeling.

I’m anonymous.. you’re anonymous. Jason Castanga isn’t . He got booed on the weekend but you still felt the need to have a cheap nasty crack at him on here .
Why ?
Because he has been a butcher for 10 years and is a selfish player.
He causes stress to supporters and his constant goal misses demoralise the team.
