His stats are slightly better than Paddy Dows
Stats are masking how little impact, or to put another way, how large a negative impact he is having on general play.

I have always been a defender of his, but for the last 3-4 weeks, his decision making, fumbles, inability to be composed and balanced and general basic skills (looping a handball over a defender, regulation kicking, sticking tackles) has not been AFL standard.

Hard decisions or huge preseason awaits as Hansen Jnr outplayed him today.

The stats aren't the main issue. His body language is horrible when things aren't going our way. It'd be understandable if he was a sub 20 gamer, but he's a 150 game co-captain. It's inexcusably poor leadership.

If a good leader is playing poorly, they’ll either lock down on their direct opponent or go forward and have an impact. Simpkin is capable of neither, and when we are getting beaten he is just about invisible.

Just has to give up the captaincy next year.

His defensive application is as bad as it gets. And he’s the captain ffs.

Won’t go anywhere with this bloke lazily waltzing back and guarding space and pointing.

Doesn’t deserve to be best 22 let alone captain.

Woah… woah..woah.
Hang on, hang on.
Calmmmmmm down.

Did you not see that open palm whack after Larkey got ruffled by some of the dogs players?

5 more years on big bucks
McDonald, Stephenson, now Simpkin
Not great
Stephenson should be paid out though, had to have most of his front loaded for us to pay the min cap

People like to blame the concussions, but his performance nosedived as soon as he didn't have Cunnington doing the heavy lifting for him in the middle. Just looks like a nothing footballer now.
Not sure that's true. Cunnington was out for heaps of Jy's best footy. The back injury in 2020 had him play 3 games, and cancer in 2022 saw just 2, the same year Jy won the Syd.

Can't pick up the ball, can't dispose the ball, can't run defensively, can't keep his feet and has poor awareness.

NMFC captain, signed long-term. Brilliant.
Its tough but he should be offered for trade and we pay some of it. Richmond would take him. Hes taking cbas off others and not sure what his role is. He butchered the defensive space today and isnt the release player. His decision making is terrible. Panicked and fumbly. Huge alarm bells. And he cant play anywhere else. With mck and 24 draftee coming in, and ldu, george, powell and sheez ahead of him , i dont see a list spot except depth. I would trade for any non cba attending player pretty much.

Don't need any sob stories after that today. If he is still suffering from effects of concussion then he should not be playing. Also, He took on the leadership as captain. He has to take responsibility for that performance and lack of leadership today. I'm not suggesting he should leave, but for the good of the club he should put his hand up and stand-down as captain for 2025.

Get him out of the middle. Small forward or the interchange bench or out of the side next year.
That midfield mix today was a disaster.

Simpkin has lost any midfield craft he had, Wardlaw isn’t clean enough, Powell is hot and cold and LDU looked shithouse today.

The biggest issue we have in the middle is too many double grabbers. We hardly take it cleanly which allows you to take it from inside to out quickly.
