AFL Player #13: Nik Cox - Subbed out vs GCS

The way you guys jump on and off the wagon with our players is truly shake my head stuff. We know he has the talent we have seen it at AFL level. Sometimes you'll have a bad day. They are humans not machines.
They jump on after a good game and off after a bad game. Glad there not coaches

We cant have the youngest 22 playing in the AFL
Who says? No one aims to be this but not making a change on that basis is strange...
There is plenty of AFL listed players in the VFL now
A lot of young guys trying to develop without competent experienced players around them.
Not doing much, and you can see the confidence being sucked out of the young guys.

You want to have selection based purely on age and have the youngest 22 ever fielded in the AFL whilst sitting 5th on the ladder?

Wow, crazier than i thought

How could you possibly take that from my comment? I clearly said it's not a reason to make the change. But also shouldn't be a reason not to make it.
Actually read posts before you reply next time.

Also, call anyone a name or crazy/etc again and you can have a day off.

You think our AFL team can be the youngest 22 players?

History shows you need experience to be successful, wouldve thought thats common sense maybe not

I think we need to play who should be playing, if that results in a younger side then it results in a younger side.

I don't think looking at the average age of the team is a good way to make decisions. We happen to have a lot of younger players on the list in general, many of our better players are U25 and a number of our senior players are injured or not playing due to form / conditioning. So we'll naturally tend younger.

We're also not going to win the Premiership this year, so I want the coaches to select a team based on form and long-term results, not how old the average age on gameday is.

You're the one fixating on age here.

Can tell you right now every AFL coach looks at the experience and age of the 22

We were 5th on the ladder, we arent picking the youngest 22 players. The club and coach believe they can make finals internally right now

The 22 were playing is young enough that were not completely ignoring youth and development

You realise you're the one arguing for selection based on age here

Based on?

I'd get him in the team as soon as he can run a game out

Isn't going to develop at all with the way the VFL team is set up.
I get what you are saying and in most circumstances I would agree but he was dead set soft this week and I do not think rewarding soft is the way to go. For me he has to have a couple of weeks where he puts in a the required effort even if we are playing poor footy. I am not sure the musical chairs as far as positions on the field is helping. In the last 3 weeks he has played back , some center bounce , Wing , a short run in the midfield. Not sure exactly what we are trying to do with him.

When I see soft I am going to have a crack. There is having a bad day and there is deciding not to put in effort.

Im not sure why hes not back without Reid ect there

Baldwin as the main KPD, then N.Cox, Hayes as the 2nd and 3rd with Montgomerie the 4th

Im not sure where Mcbrides been playing lately but he will be gone from the list in 3 months so he should be filling in wherever that may be. Wing, KPF ect. Not cox

Tsatas, Davey, Wanganeen as onballers with the VFL guys is it Bernacki and co

Ant I respect your comments because you're more than qualified to make them. I was more meaning in general. It does happen all the time. It's what most do. Sorry for not clarifying that.

Think Scott said something about wanting to play him in different roles to find out what works.

Which is fair enough - he’s pretty unique, not like he is clearly one thing or another. You want to see what else he can do before taking the easy option and sending him back (easy because we pretty much know he can do it).

Sounds like he needs to harden up and just get on with it.

i think the issue could be he's unique.
10cm shorter and he'd be an interesting tall mid/HF option
10kg heavier and he'd pure KP.

I think he's the too-tall third tall forward and pseudo-ruck, perhaps KPF2 if he gets his body to that point. Like the old Daniher role c. 2017, pushes up the wing as a marking target but starts in the forward line.

I think that's also the role Weideman has been trying to play whenever we've put someone else deep-forward, and prior to that, Harrison Jones at the start of the year when Weideman was playing more in the goal square, but both of those get too far up the ground and lose their bearings, don't get back in time to have a shot at goal.
