I’m off to the pub to watch sone cricket, how good. Can’t believe sone of the sad sacks on here. Pitch has a bit in it, Warner has batted well - punished the bad balls, survived the good, Ussie looks to be building after a shaky start, it’s warm out, cheer up.
Did you see the end of the game? Was as dog shit boring a game as expected

I enjoyed the test. It's great watching a good side clinically play out a test win. Maybe boring to some, but I love it.

Regarding the where and who and why, I try to take a longer term view.

I like giving sides not at the Australia/England/India level the opportunities to play against the best sides in big matches as they always seem to uncover some quality among their ranks, and can hopefully take that form on to long careers, inspiring new generations in their own countries.

Playing these other nations is about growing the game.

Growing the game for world cricket is so important.Just look at countries like Netherlands even though white ball cricket how competitive they were in the recent World Cup.

They were here last year, they suck, it's groundhog day bullshit. I know you like the opposing view to everything it's as tiresome as all fukc.

The West Indies suck so hard all their matches here should be on the minnow circuit grounds until they improve.

Sigh.

They are here whether you like it or not, genius. So the idea of which of the two teams plays in Adelaide is, as i said, much of a muchness, given that the West Indies themselves in the corresponding match to the one that just finished, made 320 last summer batting last.

Actually look for the point being made, instead of inventing one, and occasionally you might find it.

As for their relative standing in world cricket, they drew their last series with Pakistan and have won 3 of their last 6 tests against them, including one in the UAE so I’m not really sure what your own point is: which team has more of a claim on the Adelaide test? Again, seems much of a muchness to me. They’re as bad as each other.

Perhaps but it’s no secret that Adelaide was set to host the first test against Pakistan until CA decided to prop up WA as they were scared that a West Indies test in Perth would attract no crowd so it’s obvious that CA thinks Pakistan is a bigger draw card than the Windies. Just a real slap in the face to a state that actually supports test cricket

Really strange examples india crush everybody at home they have very few close contests and england for most part are very hard to beat at home as well, difference is indians and english enjoy their sides winning but more and more aussie cricket fans seemingly hate our test side hate test cricket and hate us winning its truly bizarre.

Not recently.

England bounced back from a thrashing to beat SA.
Both their wins against NZ came from nowhere when the Kiwis looked certain to win: took some huge fourth innings chases to win them. The Indian series was a 2-2 draw, the Ashes was a draw, they came from 1-0 down to beat the West Indies during COVID and probably could have lost that series.

Don't underestimate the revenue/value of having the last session beamed back to eastern state timezones in prime time.

If all CA are worried about is Eastern state viewers then just play cricket at the WACA and be done with it. I’d hate to think how much they lost yesterday opening up Optus for 9k, surely break even is 20-25k

Im assuming at the Junction oval.Vic bat for one day and then Pakistan for a day.In a two day match.
See what changes Pakistan make . Will they be competive on Boxing Day.
I think they'll be competitive on boxing day. It's the other four days of that test we're all worried about.

Purely from a crowd perspective, there didn't appear to be a lot of benefit to holding this match at Perth Stadium rather than the WACA. From an entertainment perspective, it wasn't much of a pitch, which I suspect (though don't know) is down to it being multi purpose and hosting Coldplay a few weeks ago, which probably delayed the pitch being dropped in? You don't have that limitation at the WACA, which has to make it conducive to better cricket.

Perth Stadium is yet to host any particularly interesting or entertaining test matches, and when you're 4 (5?) tests in I think you're starting to become due. (We had 2 shockers in a row in Melbourne and we were ready to dig the pitch up.)
Hosting the first test helps a bit, because there is an air of anticipation with not knowing what to expect. But Brisbane's test against the South African's that went for two days while not being the spectacular contest between bat and ball was certainly enthralling and entertaining from a spectator's perspective (was at day 1 where all hell broke loose and Head played the innings if a life time) just a shame they couldn't have made it a four innings match. Trouble is, if that match was the 4th of the series and it had already been decided, then the only people in the crowd are those who watch cricket for the sake of cricket.

imagine having a slightly later start and having the last two sessions beamed back? could have it from 5pm EDT to 10pm EDT

10s of thousands desperately wanting to go day 5. So unlucky for the final figure.
So 10’s of thousands were going on a working day but a pathetic 9k attend on a Sunday when all the apologists were telling me the reason why crowds were so terrible on Thursday and Friday was because it’s a workday and that they would all flock to the ground over the weekend. Wish they would pick an excuse and stick to it

Tempted to go to a day of the Adelaide test but combination of TV coverage is so good, costs lots of money, pub transport, cbf going into the city and if it's a shit game can flick channels swing me to stay home.

Don't know if others feel like this that puts them off going and lower crowds of late have all these factors.

Starting on a Wednesday - bad
Day test in Jan - bad
Starting long after xmas leave ends - bad
WI again - bad

WI in a day/nighter in our usual pre xmas slot would get me there. What they've done to us this summer is moronic. Crowds will be well down other than the members who've already paid...

I just get a transferable membership each year. Works well with shit summers like this I can let it lapse and go again next season.

Friday will be good. Lots of sports clubs going and many corporate facilities are selling well. Opening day should be good but I do worry about the Thursday
