Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Given our current backline woes, Reid in defense would be an interesting move, given his "pressure acts" and his marking / spoiling.

Reid was allright tonight when he was let off the leash. Given the space to move up the ground and run hi opponent around and it cuts out the double tagging, it's 2 weeks in a row he spent a propitiation of the play behind the ball rather than in front of it. It seems to be doing something for him.

perhaps the weight of CHF was weighing him down. We all see that he is mobile, and has good hands, and defensive skills. Freeing him up, giving him some range, can only be a good thing. Remember, when we drafted him, he was a 17 year old defender, and we put him forward. We asked him to go forward. At the time our team asked him of that, and he filled it. Filled it to a Cup. The best I have seen of him has been beyond the forward fifty. When Tippet comes forth, and wonders abound how he, Reid, Pyke, Mumfrod and a cyborg LRT fit, we may have found the answer for him.

Reid tried real hard but he needs to kick at least one goal a game if he is our key forward. That would have won us the match last night.

He is young. He will get better & more consistent.

Cannot understand how he can take a big mark down back to save the game but manages to drop the simplest of marks in the forward line... Is he scared to have a shot on goal??

Better delivery than we give him, shows where his strengths are

He worked his bum off last night and took marks cannot fault his efforts

17 Disposals and 11 marks was a pretty good game for him. It would be nice if a couple of those disposals were marks & shots at goal, but there weren't many kicks into the foward 50 that gave him a chance. He's starting to turn the corner, now a few others have to start doing the same.

I agree and now he's built up a tank I think we will see more of this. Reid wondering down the ground a lot more and pushing up to CHB when were trying to remove the ball. But to make this work we do need someone to stand tall in the forward line. It worked last night and anything that grows his confidence is a good thing.

Agree more of a Roo sort of CHF and will work even better when tippet is in

Still can't believe Sam took that grab. If we were 1 point up at the time it'd easily be rated higher than Naitanui's. It was certainly under a lot more pressure.

i still cant believe we let it get to the point where he needed to do it to salvage a draw

Totally agree CAS, I hope when Tippett finally comes in that this is the sort of play Reid is capable of, marking out in front on the lead.
