Re: Is Luke Hodge really a lock?

He would be more of a lock if he was selected compared to other value players...

It's like saying Ablett is the best player considering a group Ablett, Roo, Franklin and Brown as opposed to saying Ablett is the best player considering a group of Ablett, Warnock, O'Halpin and Henderson. ;)

LOL! Hey O'Halpins going to kick all out goals this year

Well I think that 99% of people get what I meant however technical you want to get. :thumbsu:

Re: Barry Hall

I'm not sure why some people don't think he's a bargain (?) You're only paying for a 69 ave starting price forward who should at least ave in the 80's.

Given the dogs are a high scoring team, a chance for the flag and if they only lose 1 or 2 games, his ave will more likely be anywhere between 90-110. (even in DT his ave should be around 80-100)

OK aggro risk comes into play but if the dogs are winning this should be minimal.

1 or 2 games? Gee, you're very confident.

And yes, he's a bargain.

Re: Barry Hall

I want him but i wont be buying him

He kicked 7 goals last night and just scored over 100

He is 33 years old wont play 22 games more like 17 games

He is a nut

He will be against Presti round 1 who rapes him every time he lines up on him

Re: Barry Hall

Look at the midfield thats delivering the ball to him. He'll kick 2-3 every week and i seriously doubt that he'll do anything silly as he knows its his last chance. The move to melbourne and a change of lifestyle and friends may have helped to lessen those anger issues.
Big risk but will be worth it my opinion. For that sort of price you would expect him to score 60-70 a week early in the season and he'll do that easily.
Could see his price being 450-500k and average around 85-90 by round 10 even if he doesnt set the would on fire. Then look at upgrade if your still worried about him 'snapping' someone.

Re: Barry Hall

From my perspective, I'm looking at him as a 5th or 6th fwd. IMO he'll only average around the 80 mark. That puts him in the $450k + class player. Fair enough. But my current 5th & 6th fwds are Tippet & Mayne. Tippet has a higher starting price of $425k and Mayne is $275k. Both of these guys are capable of average scores >80 and with a lot less risk. With that in mind, he's out of my team.

Re: 2010 Player Discussion.

Don't hear much on Ryan Hargrave. He is a top 10 DEF and am surprised he is not in more teams.

Also Andreas Everitt is in good form and I think he is now likely to play most games. Showed some great touch and may be ready to become an 80+pt player. At 30k more than Hunt and Ladson I think most people are looking at the cheaper options though.

Hmmm.....

...and JKT could be great. Has good skills and is a smart player for a rookie, another fine example of a mature age rookie who keeps his head when on the field. The only thing that goes against him is that there is soooooo much midfield talent with this years rookies that there are better and safer options for points and games. Hopefully he is a great target a little later in the season.

You comment of 'too early to call' is spot on.

Re: 2010 Player Discussion.

Are any of the Hawks rucks worth jumping on? I know Hawthorn tend to use 'cardbord cut out' ruckman that just stand ther and do nothing but with Simon Taylors Injury are they worth a look at? Simon Taylor is the hawks most expensive ruck at just 280k, but the other rucks are:

Brent Renouf 250k
Max Baliey 109k
Wayde skipper 102k
Luke Lowden 100k
Sam Grimley 94k

Although in the past couple of Hawks rucks have not scored so well, could this be a year were things change? Dose Renouf have what it takes to go that next step? While Baliey or Skipper (who look set to be elevated) could be great bench warmers and earn u a bit of extra coin.

Re: Barry Hall

I've been trying to talk myself out of getting him all pre-season. Old, angry, may be rested, ect.

But he is irresistable.

Looks incredibly fit, historically durable (I don't think he's ever pinged a hammy), appears motivated and happy. Just two years ago he averaged 87 (averaged 131 in 2006) feeding off the relatively unskilled Swans midfield. Now he's got the likes of Cooney, Higgins, Griffen, Gilby, Aker, Ward and Johnson giving it to him on a silver platter.

Who doesn't like silver platters?

Wouldn't jump on Taylor or Bailey in a hurry, they will both miss a large chunk of the season due to injury.

Re: Is Luke Hodge really a lock?

Only averaged 97 after returning from injury in round 11. His results from 2008 and previous were before teams started increasing their severity of their tag on him. I think he will struggle to score much more than 100.

What do other people think?

You've said it yourself. I assume by score you mean average, he's priced at a ~90 average and you think he'll average a touch over 100. Therefore represents great value.

Yeah im not planning to, im just trying to help a few guys out there who are strugling. I have a very good ruck line-up

Re: Barry Hall

Another positive is that he is extremly unlikely to get injured, and if he does get suspended, at least he would have run out a full game in the match he got reported in, so you don't lose much on the weekly scoreboard.

Much better scenario then when Hille scored me a 3, or Harvey and Pendles got their donuts.

Re: Barry Hall

Im not getting him.

Unless hes gonna kick 4-5 goals each game, hell score terribly.
They guy is like a ship, he cant turn or run around anyone now that hes 33.
If he had a couple of off games, which he will, expect a return of about 20 points or less.

Re: Barry Hall

you are clearly judging that on an assumption just because he is 33. if youve watched him in the nab cup youd clearly know different. still very quick over the first 20

Re: 2010 Player Discussion.

It probably doesn't matter, but what do people think about the scoring ability of Alex Silvagni?

Will he turn out like Petrenko, or will he be a decent cow?

Robbie Gray

What are peoples thoughts on Robbie Gray from port. He was a decent scorer already last year, hence his $445k price tag (84 ave). But from memory he was played predominantly as a small forward, meaning he is one of those guys that just scores well in this format
So far in the preseason games i have noticed him spending much more time in the midfield, and starting in the square at most bounces. Could be a bolter this year i reckon...

Re: 2010 Player Discussion.

i have actually started to warm to renouf. round 22 last year when bailey went down early he rucked most the day and scored 99, and by all reports he done about 80 per cent of the ruck work against brisbane in their last practise match and had a blinder.in my side it comes down to this -will (renouf, ball) score more than (sandilands, trengrove).one thing for sure he will definatley beat last years average of 47 its just a matter of by how much.
