A few Saints fans have suggested that they use Armitage as trade bait, but it would be a reasonable trade to get a tall who isn't Wright. St Kilda offloaded McEvoy last year to run with Hickey, Longer and Stanley. They're just downgrading their first pick to get Durdin plus a young mid/flanker/tall for pick one and Armitage. Might be fairer if you remove Armitage, but I see the Giants being more interested in Petracca.

The trade for Tom Lee is more questionable. The Saints aren't giving up the Matt Crouch pick for a veteran like Bernie Vince.

Recon Saint will say to GWS you want No.1 for Petracca we'll have your pick and Jaksch... Durdin down back Jaksch up forward.... mid like Maynard with there 2nd.....

I was to the understanding clubs take best available player
So what if they went the petranca ?
Everyone knows how highly I rate Petracca, but if St.Kilda don't take a tall in this years draft they are even dumber than what I already think. They started rebuilding last year with Billings, Dunstan and Acres, so why not continue down that path.

I can't decide whether you are being too optimistic on our chances for the rest of the season or too pessimistic of our position in the draft...

I just want us to win as many games as we can for the rest of the year to build momentum to lead into the preseason. The draft will take care of itself. Just that I have a couple of favourites and it'd be great to be able to get one of them.

But I think HBF is suggesting that Laverde would be taken at #6 after Melbourns #3 & #4 or #4 & #5 depending on where they end up

Note im still hopeful they won't get another pick

Spot on.
Which leaves us to choose guys like Wellar, Pickett, Lever and even Marchbank.

Odds on Frawley leaving still high? We look odds on for pick 6 (if Frawley goes) with the form we're in.

Even if we beat GCS, if we lose the rest - Doggies will finish above us if they beat St Kilda & GWS.

Frawley will net Melbourne pick 3 if he goes....crazy.

If GWS beat Melbourne and st Kilda win one more game this year, Melbourne can finish last. Imagine if they get pick 2 for Frawley.

I just can't see Dees getting that compo for Frawley. Think about it:

If he does decide to go, it'd be for either money or success... Surely Dees would be able to match any offer to keep him there - he can't hate Melbourne that much to leave for a small bump in pay. So I can't see this happening.

If he does go for the lure of a flag, I can't see any challenging clubs paying him the reported $650k+ to get him over to the club. So if he goes for the 'lure of success' then he'd surely only be likely to get around $500k per season (nothing to sneeze at, mind you) which I don't believe would be 'Band 1' Compo...

So in the occurrence of his departure, the best Dees would get in the above scenario would be Band 2 (End of 1st round, if I'm not mistaken) = ~19/20 which seems right. So I don't think we should be worrying so much about this... if he even leaves (which I'm not convinced is as certain as speculated).

Bulldogs are going to put in a bid for Lions Academy player Matt Hammelmann.
Interesting call. Clearly they aren't too keen on Jayden Foster then, although Hammelmann could be a great steal if they use a third rounder on him.

Apparently Reece McKenzie's younger brother is set to be a ripper in a few years.

Could be our version of the Reid's ...(and we could be Footscray) :(

Definitely still raw. He comes into the gym with Reece occasionally, and he is very light. However, with Reece dedicated to bodybuilding, and the clear talent in the family, the younger McKenzie could certainly blossom.

Some talk that Laverde may have grown to around 191 cms - would be appealing to us? given our declaration for tall midfielders?
Would have thought that Jake Lever or potentially Sam Durdin may be more appealing for the blues. Paul Ahern might be an option too.

Can anyone update me about a Bendigo kid called Sam Heavyside?
Heavyside was incredible. Always in the bests over the last few years and won the Bendigo BNF over the likes of Ollie Wines iirc. Now playing in the VFL, but he's been overlooked twice, so clearly his size is an issue.

Why would Melbourne bother to match an offer when a top 4 pick is up for grabs?
