Probably not the right thread for it... but did anyone on see 360 last night with Leon Cameron talking about the hawks recruiting (from when he was an assistant)...

He said they target players they would like 12 months out potentially, I assume are meeting with contracted players and offering with a spot the next year.
Would explain why so my players who just happen to want to move on out of the blue nominate Hawthorn as their club of choice..

Rumours around that Nick Riewoldt possible up for trade, unrest at the Saints.
What do people think about him as a replacement for Pods?
What would it take to get him? First round pick? Smedts and picks?

I heard yesterday Riewoldt to the Pies is a real possibility - Collingwood not happy with how Lynch went this year and looking for a forward partner for Cloke while leaving Reid down back

Saints put out a statement yesterday saying Riewoldt will not be traded.

From my understanding it is Shaw wanting to leave the Pies more than them wanting him to go.

Complete rubbish I would say... as the captain he will stay especially more so if Dal and potentially Joey move on. Apart from him and lenny they have no leaders

Which is why they are going after Jesse White

If the Swans land Buddy, the AFL need to have a good hard look at the assistance handed to Sydney, and Demetriou either needs to be assassinated or retire.

Sort of a bit off topic here fellas. But with all these delistings and rumours of champs such as Corey and Chapman being moved on and Hunt gone already, will any veterans on our list make it to 300 games? It's been a while IMO that we have had a 300 game player, wondering whether any are likely to make it or not.

Selwood in 7 years.

I was thinking Selwood as well, but geez his body takes a hammering. Would be magnificent if he got there. I was hoping Boris and Bartel would get there but seems they could well retire or be moved on in favour of youth in the next couple of seasons.

Enright most likely. Currently on 266, so two pretty complete seasons.

Am I missing something there. Why don't the AFL say "right Sydney you give us a cheque for 940k. You then draft and do everything as normal to within the salary cap - then at some point during the year the we will send cheques to the players for 10% of their wage". Am I missing something? Is this too simple?

Swans get to keep the COLA and the other clubs are happy cause they aren't using to rort the system?

Anyone think the cat's are a good chance to draft Bundys little bro Aaron ???

It would be nice :) but we have suffered the curse of good older brothers, I don't think Menzel and Selwood Jnr Jnr Jnr would have been looked at nearly as closely if not for Dan and Joel.

Why ...??? if hawks can give him 1.1mil (how do they do it with their list???).... the swans just found 200k more a year.... nothing more... Losing Mumford... White... Bolton... Matner... covers that easily... let's all forget EddyEveryWhere's rant about cost of living... Facts are Facts... it costs more to live in Sydney... and In reality it's in the best interests of the AFL that the NON-FOOTBALL states have a little extra to keep players... Just look at the players all wanting to go home.... Pathetic as it is... It's reality... without $$$.. players will head home for the same cash...

To play 13 years plus in this modern era will be near impossible... and thats without injury and playing 20 games as a 18 yo...
Furthermore... with free agency... 1 club players will not be the norm in a decade.... just look at the NRL... SCARY!!

I doubt he will make it... before this season he was expecting it to be his last I heard

Guys I follow Jackson Thurlows career as a former Tasmanian, I watched about 8 games of his live this year, inc his ESS debut and game v COLL at mcg and thought he had a very good first year at AFL level. To come to the club with an injury which interrupted his preseason and then play NAB cub and 4 AFL games against 3 top sides before the half way mark of the season was huge. He got that setback mid year with the broken cheekbone and had a quiet Vfl GF playing deep back on talls- but all in all it appears he acquitted himself well in his first taste of AFL.

One thing I notice in discussions is that many cats followers compare Thurlow often with more established 3rd and 4th year players, which is probably is a credit to him as a first year player finding his feet being compared to more established players who have had longer in the AFL system.

Question-How did you guys rate Thurlows first year, thoughts on his 2014 prospects and how does he compare with other cats talent at the same time when they were a first year e.g Duncan, Guthrie, Christenson,Horlin-smith, Smedts, Murdoch

At least a couple of times this season he ummed and aahed about going again in 2014. Another one after that seems extremely unlikely.

And cross all your appendages about 2014.

Gwsrules I think he is an outstanding prospect. I think I said during the season that he is a cross between Enright and Taylor. To be honest, he could have played many more games, he will start in the seniors next year in place of Josh Hunt.

In terms of his debut year, he was as good as any of those players you mentioned and better than most.

Have to agree with BP, hard to imagine he won't play atleast a dozen matches next year, and maybe even more if he can cement himself. I have him penciled in to move into the half back flank roll replacing Guthrie who I think will move to midfield. I'm hopeful he'll have a break-out year, I certainly think he's capable.
