In typical Adrian Doddoro style, Essendon have demanded Chad Wingard in return for Paddy Ryder.

liam jones - 198cm 98kgs - hmmm me thinks we could be after him to play a different roll other than in the forward line. im guessing we might make him into a defender to play on the big guys. he is athletic and can take a solid mark. thoughts???

Hmmm not sure. Who knows though, maybe like Sydney did with a young Richards from Essendon?? Inconsistant forward who couldn't find a spot at the bombers?? By memory though Richards was much younger when traded and trying to force his way in at Essendon with Lloyd, Lucas etc would have been a tough gig.. Interesting prospect though. If the feeling is though that he does not have a competitive nature..forgot it!! We have drafted 4 rookies this year who have this is spades and look at the difference it makes. Let this please continue..

The biggest knock on Jones seems to be his footy smarts - leading to the wrong spots etc. be interesting to see if that would impact his ability to play back, or if it would work (forward leading him to the contest etc). He's a ridiculous mark when he does get a jump at it.

keen on higgins as he is a classy player and we need a couple of silky players to complement out hard nuts...

wells in the middle
dal santo off the backline
higgins fwd of centre

looks good to me

98kg's ?!?!?!?!?

He looks like a twig, unless he could whack on plenty of size can't see him as a FB. They are probably hoping he kicks on and becomes Petrie's replacement. He'd get more opportunity at the Blues, I think he will end up there.

I'm hoping that's bone density. Which means more potential for muscle growth. If we do land him their might be a very anxious Delaney

What I don't get - and this isn't necessarily directed at you HoF - is people suggesting the likes of Jack Watts 196cm, 23yo as if this might be some coup or masterstroke, yet aren't willing to consider Liam Jones 198cm, 23yo in a similar light. Arguably Liam has shown a lot more potential. Is it the draft pick status? How often do we hear the "Once you're on a list, you're all on the same footing." comment? We know it's true, but don't act that way.

This is another thing I don't get; why people get so focused on salaries. Let's be honest, we wouldn't have a bloody clue what the annual and projected salary budget is like. Any given salary offer - which we generally can only speculate about - has to be seen in the light of that budget; what we have to pay and what we can pay, not just in the year in question, but in years that follow. The materiality of a salary offer, in the context of an overall budget, is what matters. I had my doubts over Walshy as a CEO, but I reckon he might just be across this stuff in his current role.
Yeah I agree, these numbers are absurdly high when u consider the cap at about 10 mil covering 40 odd blokes. I do know final salaries of a couple of big name players who've recently retired. Premiership players, and multiple BNF winners. You'd be surprised. Key to list management and building a winning culture is keeping everyone happy, keeping the group together, and not generating jealousy by offering an outlandish contract just to get a disgruntled player at another club onto the list.

u r thinking of jared grant - he is the one that looks like a praying mantis
jones is a big unit and is listed at 98kg on all sites - this is jones

What we're seeing now is the positive benefits of what were labelled by some as "absurd" front ended contracts a few years ago.

Does anyone know why Ryder hasn't been linked to any Melbourne clubs? I mean at the moment it seems GWS, Brissy, GC, and Port. I don't know where he's from but it's odd that he's linked to three different states and not Victoria

Was said early he wanted out of melbourne, directly requested to be traded to a "Non AFL state" whether that means he just wants out of the public eye *shrug*

Oh yeah so was Swallow was a walk in star when he got to the club?

His form, acceleration and ball use has actually improved post injury and rehab.

Wikipedia even shows what swallow went through post two years into debut

"Swallow played the first 3 games in 2008, before being sent back to the VFL to work on his outside run and spread from the stoppages. After some positives performances at North Ballarat Roosters, he injured his ankle during a game and missed 7 weeks. On his return to the VFL he went onto become a crucial member of the Roosters premiership team."

At 22, 1.85cm and the need to work on the same thing swallow had to I personally see some similarities.

If he actually had the determination like swallow had, anything is possible.

Swallow is the byproduct of hardwork outweighing skill. Jacobs has some serious skill. I'd like to see more time aerobically being applied in games and training scenarios before labeling him as squid
Yeah and nah,,,the fact his brother was a no.1 draft pick and also a gun would suggest on the balance of probabilities that genetics may have something to do with it!

His mrs is from QLD so that was his preference initially but I think they just want out of Melb to avoid all the ongoing press and scrutiny about the saga, hence why he's considering other states.

Nah I know who Jones is, just surprised he is 98kg. Hawkins is 100kg and looks double the size of Jones.

Yeah north need more class like higgins... Liam jones yeah me interested, agree defender maybe, waite quick fix till black finds his form in reserves , lumamba meh!

Makes sense, to be fair good luck to him, would have loved him at North, will be a superstar wherever he goes.
