Any system that says Buddy is worth pick 19 while James Frawley is worth pick 3 is seriously skewed. But that's how the AFL rolls.

Mind you the Hawks used the cap space they got from Buddy to get Frawley for nothing. All the other clubs pay the compo pick by getting kicked down the line, which also sucks in my view.

My biggest gripe is the rule that if you trade in an FA the same year one leaves you get no compo. That is the Carlton rule because we are the only club it has applied to and is likely to apply to because they will fiddle with the rules again for sure.
But it's skewed for a reason. Sure Buddy is a better player than Frawley, but Hawthorn can afford to lose a player of Buddy's calibre, where as Melbourne can't afford to lose a player of Frawley's calibre. A bottom team losing a top player deserves better compo than a top team losing a top player.

Sorry to intrude guys, No doubt we need the fix our ruck problem Carlisle isn't the answer but either is Warnock
Ruck really isn't an important position these days Snake Charmer, grab a solid option nice and cheap like we did with Wood and use valuable picks or trades on important areas.

serious question...how good is henderson? from the limited times I've watched him his good seems very good but he also seems to go missing.
Not a star but as solid as solid gets. Close to a star CHB but not quite. A club would give up an 8-15 pick to guarantee that they shore up an area of need. Forwards go missing at the same time midfields do.

I don't understand why. Surely overpaying someone a couple of hundred thousand would be fair compensation for the boos, especially a fringe player or a player wanting to return home to Victoria.

Say will Langford is worth 350k, Hawks can only afford to pay him 270k and can't guarantee him a game. We need to pay 95% of the cap why don't we offer him overs on a heavily front ended contract.

"Will we've got a 4 year 420k front end contract sitting here for you, one condition you have to walk out on hawthorn".

Doesn't have to be Langford, but any youngish player that's shown enough at the top level.

If we are going to win a premiership/ be top 4 in 4-5 years we need to add as many quality players as possible. We should definitely be looking at paying above market value on a front end contract for a player that can help us.

I think in Langford's case they'd give him three years, with the majority being paid in the third year when there's no Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne et al.

Crozier and Sheridan are Vic Dockers reportedly coming home at end of the year.

Probably worthwhile giving up a third rounder for either of them, considering the supposed lack of depth in the draft, throw in Ellard as a sweetner :)

So , at his age and experience a 500 or so for his next contract would be in the zone.
Yep. You raised the amount of an extra $200,000 so considering he is already on $400,000 our offer would be more than that so on this basis the amount must be closer to $650,000 - $700,000.

I think another poster proposed this 200. The only number in the press I have seen is 500. Speculation on our board he may even have a backened deal so at the start it may be less than 500

Would be keen on crozier for sure. Kid can play and is the sort of slippery small forward our forward line needs atm.

Third round pick should get it done if he nominates and since he is behind ballantyne and Walters he's not even first 22 at Dockers

Hendo isn't a superstar but he is a very solid player. Not his fault he's been forced to play key forward in a shit team the last few years. Not even roughhead would excel given our delivery and limited opportunities

If he settled at CHB he would be in AA contention. As a forward he breaks down too much, if only we could get an early draft pick to get a big forward...!

I have to agree with Elias that Hendo is overrated and at his age and current performances, isn't worth the money his management asks. We have just about hit rock bottom, so we can afford to lose him if we get a good draft pick for him.

Our club is partly in the pickle we are in now by giving players vastly overpriced contracts. (that was a factor in Eddie leaving)

This club sorely needs better fiscal management with player contracts, we cannot afford to meet Hendo's management's demands in my opinion.

Crows board seems to think a Yarran and Kerridge trade could happen, with the Crows chucking in their first rounder (12ish) and we sending back our 2nd rounder (pick 20 or so)

I would be happy to do the deal for Kerridge and pick 12, but not give them pick 20 (third rounder would be okay)

I do get the vibe that Yarran will be traded, that deal with the Crows makes sense to me (plus reunites him with Edwardo) ..
