I'd rather keep the Murphs, Thomas, Jamison, etc. who are worth more to use than what we'd get back in a trade.

Our value lies in Henderson and Gibbs atm. And potentially Yarran.

Yes, but we don't want to artificially move up the ladder until we have had a good go at the top of the draft for 3-5 years. We need to build the next Carlton legacy...with a little luck, and some much better drafting than 7 out of the last 10 years.

Yarran will have more currency next year. If he kept playing well we could get first round compo for him.

As that pick would be tied to our ladder position we could very well have two picks inside the top5
in the 2016 draft and potential 3 in the top 20.
This would fit much better with our list management.

So who do think we'll realistically trade?

Gibbs and Yarran/Hendo are the ones I see. They'd net 1st rounders.

If we do finish bottom we'll get 1 and 19. Then approx. 15 and 18 for Gibba and Yaz.

1, 15, 18 and 19 + 1 in PSD

Weitering, Aish, Dixon and a pick inside 19 wouldn't be a bad little off season.

B: Weitering, Jamison, Tuohy
HB: Byrne/Yarran, Henderson/Rowe, Sheehan
C: Aish, Cripps, Docherty
HF: Menzel, Casboult, Boekhorst
F: Jaksch, Dixon, Smith

R: Kreuzer, Bell, Murphy

INT: Simpson, Everitt, Thomas SUB: Viojo-Rainbow

3-5 years are you kidding me, we have already had 1 (verdict is still out if we wasted that year) we have completley turned over our list in the past 2 years and will likely turn over another 10 players this year so we should be well on our way and finishing bottom 2 and trading out Yarran/Gibbs/Hendo should give us some top end class to add to what we have already done, i would expect another year next year when we would finish bottom 4 but would expect to be climbing the ladder fairly rapidly after that.

Don't want to lose Troy Menzel but if he wants out (which I've heard) he may very well be the one that gets us a high first rounder.

I reckon you are underselling Gibbs and Yaz a fair bit there. As many have said we are better letting Yaz go as a FA next year if we dont get a top 10 pick for him and I still think Gibbs has top end talent and any club looking for some polish would want him, I suspect Gold Coast would give up there first pick for Gibbs.

To have a second veteran class midfielder next to Ablett and their kids would make the Gold Coast front office cream their pants

Exactly and they will have seen what GWS have done with Griffen and know they have some catching up to do.

We gave up ours for Brock.

I would also think a side like North Melbourne whos only missing link appears to be a touch of class in the midfield would give up there first for either Gibbs or Murphy, but they are likely to finish top 6 so pick wont be that high.

aish or shiel ?

Stupid question, one is a bloke who got dropped by the brisbane bears and is not currently in there best 22 and appears to have a pretty poor attitude and the other is putting up stats equivalent to the best mids in the game..

My question is, Shiel or Hannebury??

I think you underestimate how garbage our list is, and how long it takes to improve it. And then it takes kids 2-3 years in the system to have any meaningful consistent output. We will be bottom 3 for the next 2 years, and bottom 6 the 2 years under that. I would not expect us to play finals for around 5 years, if things go well.

It has taken two expansion teams, with access to ALL of the talent 4-5 years to make finals. They were also given opportunity to recruit superstars or stars of the league.

Our position is more akin to Melbourne 5 years ago, except we currently have more players with currency at the table. None of them will likely be apart of our next finals side, so we need reap what we can from these players. This will enable us to potentially move up a little quicker than Melbourne and the Bullies. We need a complete coaching overhaul, as well as fitness overhaul to have any chance at playing finals in 5 years.

I have no idea what value we would get for these guys, and I am not sure anyone would take Daisy off our hands unless he plays a good season.

stocks have plummeted. Maybe late second round if he remains injury free? Contract is a burden.

North Melbourne...

$200K/season of remaining contract + Thomas + pick 55 = pick 33.

I would take that and run to be honest. His contract is a killer, and the poor lad just doesnt seem like he will get anywhere near his best. Even if he does, what would that achieve for us?

North Melbourne does like old broken down players...

We have some of the basics already in place with our under 23 yo's with a bunch of players we know are talented enough to play at AFL level. Of the players I have listed all of them except Foster, Graham, Holman & DVR have shown enough to indicate they will at least be capable of being AFL footballers, they might just be foot soldiers but even hawthorn needs a bunch of those. We need a minimum of 3 of these guys + our draft picks this year to turn into elite players... From this list it appears only Cripps, Docherty and possibly Bell and Menzel have this capability which is why we need to nail these pics and make sure they are A grade players. We also severely lack KPP particularly KPF which for some reason none of our coaches since Kennedy left has felt the need to address.

We have
Bell - 23
Boekhurst - 21
Byrne - 20
Buckley - 22
Cripps - 20
Docherty - 21
Foster? - 19
Graham? - 20
Homan? - 19
Jaksch - 20
Menzel - 20
Smith - 19
Viojo - Rainbow? 19
Whiley - 22

IMO our situation isnt as dire as you, and most in the media are making out as we are already 2 years into our rebuild, and in that 2 years we have got Cripps & Docherty who are already well on the way to becoming stars and when we add more top end talent we will be in a great position to rebound quickly.

Daisy is with us, we have paid for him and he holds zero trade currency so best for us to accept this and use him for his leadership and try and get him to contribute, he is never going to be the star player Mick and we got sucked into but can be servicable.

If we finish last and the lions finish second last. We will be able to play hard ball big time with Brisbane.

We could say we will take Ben Keays with pick 1 forcing them to use there first round pick.
Which would be pick 2. Inseed of getting him with there secound pick 20ish.
This could all be avoided we say." you trade us Aish for well below his market value or allow him to walk into the preseason draft" and we will pass on Keays.
Letting them pick the best talent to come out of there state since Nick Riewolt.
