For all the Darcy tucker lovers.

Was told a rumour that clubs are expecting him to fall in the draft order. Late first round now

Funny you should say this...
I was in a discussion this morning with some people who were saying exactly the same thing. Big question marks over his ability to be a genuine mid after a very underwhelming champs.
Will still be a nice AFL player though.

It's funny, people reckon we've had too many half back flankers over the last few years, but that's because a lot of them are either mids who haven't made the grade, or blokes we can't think of a genuine role for.

A really elite flanker is actually worth its weight in gold IMO. Imagine the weapon that Webster, Savage and Tucker coming off half back would be...

Still want a genuine mid, but it's food for thought.

i agree with this. harrold is one i am very very keen on. diamond in the rough in that WA side

This trading of future draft picks is just gonna allow the high flying "have" clubs to enter the market for out of contract younger stars like Aish and Treloar when under usual circumstances they wouldn't have had the means to trade for these guys due to their season performance. So not only will you have the free agents demanding to go to the Collingwoods and Hawthorns of this world, you'll also have the young guns going there too.

And so what chance do clubs like us, Dogs, Melbourne have of attracting anyone decent without having to dangle a kings ransom ala T. Boyd?
Completely disagree, big clubs were always in the market for players if the salary cap allowed for it. Now, they'll be in the market just as much, it's just that the Northern clubs could potentially get more in a trade for homesick talent. Examples of that being Elliot Yeo (West Coast worked to get a deal done) and Jared Polec (Port worked to get a deal done).

AFLPA hold all the cards IMO.

There was an article earlier in the season, there was talk of americanising the system, whereby contracted players can be traded to any club that's willing to take the contract.

If they allowed that, they could probably negotiate the removal of the rookie list system, alongside a better (for the players) system of Free agency. Say, 6 years total and 4 years at the current club.

I mean, technically, they could smash the system. The system is all technically a restriction of Trade approved by the players. No reason it couldn't be the NRL if they so desired.

Pretty much what I was told. I would really love to get my hands on him now. Get him to break lines off half back whilst putting some serious development in him I think he could be a very nice piece moving forward.

Ideally I want to finish 15th. Pick 4th in the draft get Parish/Francis and be low enough and hope for tucker to be this year's Goddard.

people that want to trade back from pick 6 are the same people who whine and preach getting elite talent through the door.

going the route of trading back in the AFL draft has never worked out to the effect the club could of hoped and the recent examples demons tyson/salem and blues Jaksch/whiley/boekhurst just doesn't work when we need elite talent.

also on top of this the general concenus seems to be that picks 4-10 are all relatively even so why trade out of the sweet spot in the draft for a potential good player and instead take a potential great player.

Fortunately the talls have exploded onto the scene this year, quite unexpectedly to be honest.

Again, I think our golden run of luck with recruiting will continue because of this. I had the top 5 players early this year being onballers, which meant we needed to finish bottom to get Parish, Matheison etc. now we can afford to win 6 games and still land a jet, happy days!

Or maybe they are just people that enjoy talking about hypothetical trades.

What happens if we win 8 :)

Tyson & Salem? How can you judge that deal after only 18 months?

Tyson came 2nd in their B & F last year. I love Josh Kelly BUT Melbourne are winning that trade by a mile at present

Could Freo possibly jump at one of our players? Our second rounder, plus a player for their first? I reckon the difference between say, 24 and 17 could be astronomical based on who might be available at the two picks. Basically the difference between getting Rice or Tucker potentially.

Maybe Fazza?
