On the Hartigan discussion, I think a few have taken it a bit far. There is a big difference between Hartigan having pressure on him for his spot, and being left to rot in the two's never to get another game. I don't think anyone is suggesting that he be dropped on the back of the lost semi-final either.

Once again .....please quote where i said that ? ......hate posters who quote what they think i meant, but never actually said or even hinted at ....read the bloody post !
Have you thought that you may have the communication skills of Justin Reid...given you are so.misunderstood... ;)

In your simplistic opinion ......coaches disagreed with you, suck it up ....you were wrong!

Find it amazing that posters bleat about not liking other posters, yet still continue to read the posts .......and the sad man Elite Crow is guaranteed to like every post that criticizes me .....that i'd say is the definition of stalking & sadman
Fortunately the coaches disagree with you on Hartigan after round 1's dumb selection...whereas Mackay is on the fringe & lucky to play the games he did with injuries. I'm confident of which one will be playing mostly AFL & which will be playing mainly SANFL from now on...

While WW chronically underrates hartigan he definitely didn't suggest he won't get a look in - you are correct

As with Mackay .....season2016 is dead and finished ....i'm talking possibilities in season 2017

Now Kane, if you're going to mount an argument around coaches decisions, you can't say the coaches were right playing Hartigan and wrong playing Mackay .....by doing that you're simply reducing your argument to just your opinion, without any facts

Just to clarify clearly, because you have a habit of twisting what is posted...

Hartigan played 23 games & selectors have him entrenched in the best 22. Was not dropped after round 1 stupid exclusion. No injured players were keeping him in the team. You can't count Shaw lol! IMO, will be 1st 22 in 2017 as there is room for him & Lever as they play different roles.

Mackay played 19 games & was dropped during the season. Lucky to return due to injuries to outside players. Unlike Hartigan, he is not going to improve & imo unlikely to play many games unless we have a bad injury run on outside players. Certainly not entrenched as a best 22 player & on the fringe.

Same reply recycled .....2016 dead and counts for naught now ......new season, new opportunities, Pyke to change some structures to improve on 2017

What those changes are & who is brought in and dropped out is pure supposition on your behalf ......the past is no indication of the future

Member when the pre-season thread used to be filled with training reports?
I'm coming to Adelaide on Tuesday and will be going to Wednesdays open session ......most of the training reports will focus on Mackay, Doedee, Milera, Cameron,Greenwood, and Shaw (expecting a comeback) :D ......not worth worrying about watching Hartigan :p (just joking)

Of course we are speculating Einstein... but to think the past doesn't inform predictions is stupid... or is your crazy crystal ball based on your gut, ignoring most relevant facts the only good predictor lol.

Here is a prediction - Hartigan will play heaps more games than Mackay, who won't play more than 4 games.

You haven't been watching Hartigan for years lol!

Perhaps you have been confusing him for Shaw...

Past can certainly provide indication on the future. It is indicative without being instructive.
We can probably all agree on 18 of next 22 based on past performance.
In pure mathematical chance and probability the past can't tell you anything but this isn't pure chance Mackay is a fringe 22 player and there are several talented people who will probably replace him in the pecking order.

Add in Menzel, Knight, Rat and the draftees if possible :)

Sorry, forgotten my primary school vernacular ....... "Play Heaps" means how many games

Only silly people start quoting how many games a player will play at this time of a Pre-Season ......and if it doesn't happen, you'll have a briefcase full of excuses ......just garbage

People seem to think i'm screaming for Hartigan to be replaced ......again read my posts from earlier this afternoon, where i stated it's a possibility due to his continued propensity to give away Thompson style free kicks, but with far more dastardly consequences

:thumbsu: Rat was very interesting to watch last pre-season ........aerobic capacity was certainly an issue .....started each running exercise strongly, but would then fall away

Alex Keath was very impressive at training, and looked like a tall midfielder, with how he covered the ground

Always want to watch the draftees .....takes a while though to identify them, although Himmelberg won't be difficult

Although I agree that he does give away silly free kicks, I don't think that's a reason for him to be not cemented in the team at this stage. Those free kicks should drop away as he gains more 'footy wisdom'.

Hartigan 20+
Mackay 4-

Can't be clearer

So your saying, and this is common, that Hartigan in a good side performs well ......but put him into a Brisbane and he may struggle ?

Now if you asked the same question re Lever, he would perform at his current level, no matter which club he played for !

That's entirely my point .....our team success makes certain players appear better than they are ....IMO Lever is the better CHB and an Otten as the third tall (example) would give our defence more smarts & flexibility ......we'll see how the season plays out shall we?, i'm not screaming for Hartigans relegation BTW

Have you lost the plot. Hartigan is a much much better option than Otten at afl level. Otten was very poor in his last AFL season. Slow, lacks agility and can't play on bigger/stronger opponents. Gunston embarrassed him and he's not not big, strong or overly quick either.

Hartigan allows us to free Lever up as that versatile, intercept marking, creative tall defender.

I like our mix. Talia takes the best tall forward. Hartigan is the 2nd tall defender who can also takes the quicker of the tall forwards if necessary.
Lever is free to patrol the defence, intercept mark, double team etc.

Anyone being critical of Hartigan against Sydney in the final has rocks in their head IMO

Our midfield were getting smashed not to mention Talia and Lever copped significant injuries during the game which left Hartigan defending plenty of quality inside 50's with little KPD support

Love Hartigan because of his mongrel. I love when he get's stuck into opposition players. He is also a solid player and can only improve.

I'm not one to agree a lot with Wayne when it comes to contentious points, but I can see where he's coming from here. Wayne's expecting Lever to fill out or gain the strength required to be a genuine KPD. If this was to happen it would cause us a bit of concern regarding going in with 3 KPD's each week. Plus Doedee, future midfielder, who's looking like being on a steep incline will likely start off in a similar role to what Lever is playing now. This puts a fair squeeze on the present KPD's for week in, week out selection.

But I think it's more hope than anything else from Wayne that this will be happening in 2017. But if all goes to plan and Lever fills out, the squeeze may be on in 2018.
Doedee is only 187cm. He want be one of the 3 talls IMO. When played in defence, he will be a medium sized defender ie Enright.
Cheney is the one with Doedee breathing down his neck.

Exactly Doedee is the perfect replacement for Cheney one day. Id actually look at trading Cheney in 2018 if Doedee comes on this year.
