None of those listed are true rebounding defenders, bar maybe Hughes and he's shown little to say he'll make it at Afl level.
We need an andrew McGrath badly, logue is second best in that role after him

Weller looked at home last few games rebounding the ball, I agree though, Logue is also up to the task without being outsized even by key forwards which is pretty unique.

Sam Walker with pick 35 or 40. That's the moneyball pick

Wouldn't spend pick 7 on Grundy. Guess that settles it.

Really? Look at how old he is, then look at other rucks his age give or take a year then ask yourself that question again. He is so far ahead of the rest of them it's ridiculous. Very few I'd take ahead of him in his draft either. Most were picked top 10.

Then again English could be more like Billy Longer who was picked at pick 8 the year before and is struggling to get games.

Wouldn't draft a 200+ game ruckman you can build a midfield around?

Seems legit....

What are you smoking and can I have some.

Would you guys have been happy if the club traded pick 7 for Grundy this year? Even with the development that's already gone into him I wouldn't do it. Might just be me...

Without thinking twice.

Its laughable to think the pies would even consider that offer though.

Tbh I really rate Grundy. No other ruck under 24 comes close to him. He was one of the best rucks in the competition in the last part of the season and is tracking nicely to become one of best in the league.

Yea I do it, without much thinking either.

Grundy kicked 60 goals in his final colts year. I genuinely thought we'd pick him as a ruck/forward option that year.

Grundy took huge steps this year. Last year i wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole but this season he took huge steps and moved into the 2nd tier of ruckmen. Around the ground he was very good. His ruck work is still only average at best but the year by year improvement is very promising. If he can take that to the next level he moves to the elite level. Worth number 7 every day of the week.

Fair enough, just me then. I'll cop that.

Nah I'm with ya mate. Too many good ruckmen get picked up with much lower picks then 7. You don't get many picks inside the top ten so I don't wanna burn it on a ruckman. If the ruckmen was a very good chance to become the next Sandilands or Gawn then maybe but I personally don't think Grundy will ever get to that level.

Also English has got brilliant skills and agility for a big man, but the bloke is poor in the two most important aspects of being a ruckmen. He's not great at winning hit outs or marking. It's a no from me.

I had a weird dream that our pick 71 ended up as pick 55, and we drafted a pearler

Well I guess he would have great lung capacity, but I'm old school and drafting based solely on occupation rather than football ability or athleticism is a massive risk.

What you're missing is that they've spent years doing coulda's pool exercise at great depths and with a heavy helmet on their head - their vertical leap and VO2 max are elite. I think its an inspired strategy

Certainly but their ball use may be a little shellfish.

I'll see myself out ......

Rucks don't go in the first round. Those who say plenty of good rucks come from later picks well who's actually below 24 and looks like being an elite ruckman. I can only name one. That's Brodie Grundy. There's a reason Grundy went first round and why English will go first round. We'll be extremely lucky to get a good ruck after pick 40 and tbh none of the other rucks sound like they'd be anything but a reach inside the top 40. There's also very few WA rucks in the competition so trading one in down the track is going to be very difficult.

With all that being said I'm a little on the fence with this. We'll see impact from almost any other top ten prospect almost straight away and they are almost guaranteed (unless they are injured as much as Morabito) to be at the very worst solid best 22 players in the long run but if the club goes with the ruck I can understand it as our ruck situation post Sandilands is looking very bleak.

Heads up - FFC have put Tim English's draft video as their headlining video in their Docker TV section of the Webpage.

The videos are as much driven off the AFL site - go back in time and you'll see draft profiles around of players we were never interested in

He is a very very good player. Also redo the 2012 draft he would go allot sooner than pick 18. Ignoring the farther / sons who is a better player? Stringer, Macrae, a few arguable ones like Wines? Reckon he'd go before pick 7.

ESPN article on potential state league afl recruits:
http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/17829343/knightmare-afl-draft-wrap-best-state-league-prospects

Includes write ups on Liam Ryan, Marlion Pickett, Darcy Cameron, Mason Shaw, Willie Rioli, Brett Eddy, Darcy Cameron & Tyler Keitel.
Laughed when they said that there's a long list of midfield options from around the country, then failed to mention anyone from the WAFL. Pretty happy with that actually, for the sake of the competition.
