So we have a guy who can't hit the side of a barn, another guy who hasn't played this year and hasn't kick more than one goal per season, another that hasn't played a game and one that played 4. Then there's a guy who not even on our list who only played 18 games in 4 years for 18 goal. The Hawks still took downer and thorp after they had Roughead and Franklin.

I don't think we need more mids but our biggest need is forwards bigs and small. They are so hard to get and develop that we need to cover our bases. (Look at freo)
See I don't think our biggest needs are forwards. And I'm not saying that because I think we're loaded with them.

Aside from Cripps, we only really have Gibbs, Murphy and ECurnow as midfielders I rate and they're on the wrong side of 25.

Think it's pretty obvious this is a midfielder's draft.
The tall forwards that are available this year aren't screaming potential super star.
Next year looks to be a better draft for tall forwards.
Think SOS will be keen to add some top end midfield talent to our list this year and possibly look at a key forward next year if required.
I'm also expecting Weitering to play up forward next year.
If Sam Rowe can go forward and have an impact a player as talented as Weitering is will be a gun wherever he plays.
Seen Weitering play up forward for Vic Country last year and TBH he looked a more natural forward then Schache.
SOS even said when we drafted him that he thinks he could definitely play at both ends.
The club are just taking a long term approach and letting him start his career in the position he feels most comfortable in.

So your argument is we need a mature key forward of talent, not that we need to burn a high draft pick on one.

With all due respect, I cannot see this happening at all. He'll be thrown forward if things aren't going our way like we did against St.Kilda, but other than that he'll be staying in defence.

We did draft a tall forward last year along with Charlie as a hybrid forward. It will be interesting to see if there is another trade with GWS. Tomlinson, Stewart, Marchbank.... A few of those kids for some draft picks would be a nice option/

Yeah, but then we may not have shiny new expensive toys to open up in November........Now that's not fun :)

Yep I get what your saying.
But let's not forget this is Weitering's first season in a AFL system.
He is far from the finished product.
In another year or two of development he could be a very different player and with the skill set he already has I see no reason why he wouldn't be a dominate player in whatever position he plays.
I'd be happy if Weitering played his whole career in the backline.
I just think that when you have a player is as gifted as Jacob Weitering you have to at least have a look at where he could be best used on field.
If we pigeonhole him as a defender we might just miss out on Jermey Cameron mark2.

I think of him as Harry Taylor II
Throw him forward when needed, but he should play the majority of his career in defence.

There is some love for a shiny new expensive toy, but it is sometimes worth getting a second hand toy that someone else has taken the financial hit with and you get a bargain. Might even allow you to get two toys instead.

Marchbank alone makes up for not having a first round pick this year.

Would love to trade for a combo of any of Marchbank Tomlinson or Ahern, for picks.
Then try and trade back into the first round by packaging up a few later picks and may be a future 3rd or even future 2nd rounder.
SOS will get creative IMO.
Can't see us not topping up on more high end talent from the draft, given we are officially in year one of a rebuild.
It is a good year to have a pick inside the top 5 IMO.
With the top end being so even SOS could get the player he has ranked at one or two with a pick inside the top 5.

All respect to you and Harry Taylor he is a gun defender.
But I think Weitering has way more talent and a lot more tricks in his repertoire.
Harry Taylor is nothing to sneeze at but I just think we have a way more talented prospect in Weitering
The kid has the footballing world at his feet and could be anything really and the best part is his all ours

Keen to take a look at Esava Ratugolea, who has recently got the call up to the Vic Country squad. 194cm KPF who kicked 8 on the weekend.

Kinda like when you can go into Harvey Norman and get one of the floor stock for almost half price. Just had a few sticky fingers on it - good as new otherwise.

Look at freo? Look at freo exactly. They made the premiership and were the dominant side all year. Would have won if they were a melbourne team used to playing the MCG

From the HS

Ben Silvagni, 16, also available for the 2018 draft, will likely play school football until his final TAC Cup year.
He kicked eight goals — five in the first quarter — in a recent Xavier Year 10 game
He already is 195cm — his father is 194cm — and has an exceptional tank.
Blues list manager and all-time great Stephen Silvagni (312 games, two flags, two best-and-fairests) is extremely protective of his sons and abhors publicity about their junior development.
But with Jack, 18, likely to make his debut for Carlton any week now it seems likely the Blues will have two Silvagnis running around soon.
Ben been receiving coaching from Hawthorn premiership captain Luke Hodge, who is part of the Xavier program.

I don't know how he can be 195cm. Urban myth?

There have been rumours floating about that he is 195 already. I think that Kreuzer, in an interview back at the beginning of the year, said he was 195cm.

And the bit about SOS abhorring any publicity about the kids while they are in school is absolutely true. But he can't stop other parents who are blues fans from going to high school games and talking about Ben.

So in 2019 we are going to be struggling to fit all our forwards in.
1. Ben = KPF/ will need games to develop.
2. Jack = 3rd tall/ should be regular best 22 by 2019.
3. Casboult = may be gone? Or moved to ruck? or ruck/forward?
4. Harry = ruck/forward should be a regular by 2019?
5. Charlie Curnow = move to midfield? KPF? 2nd tall? should be a regular by 2019?
6. Kerbatieh = rookie small? looking OK for NB's now.
7. Gallucci = small forward? or gone?
8. Kerridge = can score and adds to midfield rotations/ should still be a regular 2019?
9. Wright should still be going OK at age 30?
10-11. Lamb and Sumner = should be going strong in 2019
12. KJ = KPF? should be a regular by 2019?
13. Buckley = fast small forward? with defensive capabilities/ should be a regular by 2019?.
Murphy = would be great as a small forward option if we can boost midfield - to prolong his career.
Cripps = resting forward
Gibbs = our best set shot at goal/ likely still in the midfield and resting forward - but could be permanently forward by 2019.

This ignores GWS4MkII, Foster, Liam Jones, Smith, Tutt, swinging Weits, Rowe, Daisy, Everitt, Gorringe, etc.
Really think we need quality mids in 2016 draft as we drafted 3 key tall's early in the draft last year.
