i agree, i can see us trading everitt and casboult (only 2 with some value). can't see anyone taking daisy. Potentially gibbs down the line also?

I see us finishing 2nd last this year behind bombers.

start with:
2, 20, 38, 48ish (dogs 3rd) and 56

agree everitts value is late second rounder?

so probably everitt and 56 for 28 and 62 (to GC) approx picks obviously

casboult for pick 35ish from freo?

Gives us:

2, 20, 28, 35, 48

surely one of the expansion clubs would trade a late 1st (15ish) and a 4th rounder (65 odd) for 28, 35, 48 for academy picks?

end up with:

2, 15, 20, 65

not a bad result

It all makes sense, but then i get to the end and i realise i would rather have picks 38, 48, everritt and casboult than pick 15....

Really? It's a bit line-ball for me. Sometimes it's better the devil you know, but then again it's anyone's guess if those devils are going to be premiership devils....

I overused that metaphor, didn't I?

Id love to have some shiny new high picks, but a late first rounder is still a 50/50 proposition.

I reckon 4 rookie picks would have as much chance of success as a single pick 15.

Then bump it up to effectively 4 picks in the 30s, 40s and I think you come out in front.

No doubt we need top end talent, but we certainly are not in a position to shed depth to get it...IMHO

The Media are like:

'Carlton are going to be SO MUCH WORSE THIS YEAR!!!'
Why?
'Because you don't simply give up such talented players like Henderson, Yarran and Menzel'
But some of them wanted out.
'Doesn't mean crap!'
Yarran said that he would've left the game if the club didn't trade him.
'So? He can kick a footy, unlike White, Curnow, Tutt...'
The supporters weren't impressed with their efforts.
'We rather fancy footwork than taking the game seriously'
We brought in players hungry to play footy and look to put in a good effort. Kerridge, Wright, Lamb, etc. They're for the short term, but...
'Don't care. They are not talented. They have no skill. Carlton have made a BIG mistake. Therefore they'll be terrible.'

Gee, the media gives me the S***S!!! They recognise players for being high picks or having so much skill, but don't care for players that throw their bodies on the line.

Tom Bell will always be our biggest loss over the latest off-season. The grunt, the effort, the ability to find his own ball. I rather have somebody that understands the club along with the sport and plays with passion than worry about perfect ball-use. Of course skill is an important aspect too, but it's kind of overrated.

Our list looks much better now that players such as Henderson and Yarran have left. To have a good list of players, you first need to have a bunch that WANT to be there. Then you focus on the structure.

SO HAPPY THAT KERRIDGE IS PROVING DOUBTERS WRONG SO FAR!!!

there seems to be a lot of ex blue playing for other clubs if you could get one back who would it be?
1. Kennedy.
2. Betts.
3. Bell.
4. Garlett.

5. Daylight.

6. ....
7. .......
8. Mouldy bread.
9. Trump's toupe.

10. More daylight.
11. Bootsma.
12. Henderson/Menzel/Yarran.
13. Grigg.

14. Megan Gale's partner which I have no interest in typing his name. In fact, I'm trying my best to avoid doing so. :p

Honestly....................losing Eddie Betts.

You talk heart and soul, he was the spirit of Carlton, only have to look over here in Adelaide, he's nearly the Mayor.

Indirectly lost us Jeppy, Robinson, Yazz.

Tore the guts out of our side...........which was nearly there.

I'd be more worried if I was an opposition player of getting monstered by weitering and made to look silly by a kid that already looks like he's played 200 games . I think he'll be fine and will more than hold his own .
Weitering kept Matthew Watson quiet last year in an Aus 18 Academy game VS the Northern Blues... so you'd think some of the lesser lights in Franklin, JCameron, Kennedy, etc would be childs play.

I can't see Wood, Armfield and Simpson continuing after this year. Maybe Simmo. If Walker gets injured bad again he will Retire and Jamison is right behind that too. Our 2017 round 1 team will look very different again maybe with the inclusion of a O'Meara or Prestia? :p

So this is what I think we do at the end of the year.
This is the strategy I'd be advocating.

Assuming we win fewer games than last year (which of course might not transpire), lobby hard around July for the priority pick, but to be before the second round not the first. If we finish last, and for the time being ignoring any possible extra picks other clubs might have due to comp or future trading, then this means we go to the draft with picks 1, 19 and 20.

Trade Gibbs for pick, say 12.

Trade Casboult for, say pick 21.

Then SOS package a combo of Everitt, our 3rd rounder and 20 for 15 and a later third rounder (worse than ours).

So we go to the draft with : 1, 12, 15, 19, 21 and then some later picks.

Hard to say bye to BG but I just don't think he will be part of our next premiership side.
And I think Everitt simply needs to be traded if we can get a pick, and I worry Cas is simply not up to it.

Early days and could very well change my views on above moving forwards but this is just an early guess.

If Freo can't find a monster forward, does Casboult fit for them?

Gibbs doesn't want to leave. Would have to be a monster financial offer for him to change his mind. Hawthorn though?
