Well, like other discussions on Sheehan and the fringe players, we'll find out as we get through the season. Making statements now about 'this guy will be cut' and 'our list strategy is that' is all hooah.

A longer but more accurate version of what I said......

We are in Year 1 of the "Reset/Rebuild", there will be a lot more casualties at the end of the year. Bolton & Silvagni have shown thus far they are not into project players or exotics, they will be playing it very safe for the forseeable future as they clean-up the mess they inherited.
I can't agree that they aren't interested in project players. Korcheck and Gorringe are exactly that. Also the fact that they have brought in Lamb a player two clubs were happy to let go of I think they are happy to look outside the box.

I was going to make a comment about Korcheck being an 'exotic' but decided to leave it out.

As for Gorringe & Lamb, they are hardly what I'd call project players seeing as they are at their second & third clubs respectively. Given they are also 23-24yo, they are playing for their AFL careers now because they won't be given another lifeline from any of the other clubs when they have hardly fired a shot over the journey.

What have they got to do with the price of fish in China ?? Irrelevant to the issue, they are part of the bigger picture.

Stop being obtuse or at least read what you write. McKay and Cuningham are examples of players recruited for what they might do based on a smaller body or work than most draftees taken around their respective picks. They have certain attributes such as height, athleticism, pace. By and large we project forward to see what those attributes might do for us.

What attributes did Sheehan have to be picked up? What attributes did he show that kept him on a list for 3 years and saw him elevated and playing senior games? Hint: The answer isn't none.

When I use the term "exotic", I'm referring to players from non-traditional Aussie Rules backgrounds, we had that Fraser Russell bloke also in that category. There is a much lower probability of them becoming genuine players due to not being exposed to it so early.

Right but you said Bolts and SOS arent interested in exotics .... like you would know. Yet they just elevated an exotic in Byrne hoping he will get games alongside another exotic in Tuohy and play with yet another exotic in Blaine Boekhorst who was a state volleyball player who started taking football seriously the year before he was drafted. Another hint: It has nothing to do with him being Irish.

Sheehan is No. 3 in the Irish pecking order and is hardly getting on the park, he will be moved on in the club's pursuit of building a playing list of depth & talent.

Yes. He has not got on the park since he was number 2 in the Irish pecking order and made an immediate impact in the seniors back in 2014.

That is the reason to move him on if they do. Time out of the game and maybe depth in position vs time left in the game. Not because he's an exotic who finds it hard to learn the game or because he has shown he isnt up to it.

We don't know the actual answer to this but who knows if Sheehan would of survived if SOS was able to find another suitable trade, free agent or trade to take his place, it may have been just circumstance that save his bacon (or potato).

Why would SOS need to find someone else to force Sheehan out? If he doesn't like exotics and thought he wasn't up to it , then he cuts him and takes a 3rd rookie in the rookie draft right?

Walsh was deemed too slow when the clear message was they wanted to bring in players with genuine leg speed.

Yeah but Sheehan is an exotic with deficiencies right? Surely the first year rookie with a decent junior pedigree stays on ahead of the exotic who isnt up to it after 3 years?

We'll see !!

Of course but as stated it is low hanging fruit. 3rd year rookie gets injured again after missing a year through injury, logic says he is in the gun. It has nothing to do with his flaws or you knowing what SOS thinks.

There aren't too many who strut around the boards trying to play themselves up as an oracle of sorts. Is there that much of an ego boost on the line?

I was going to reply to all of your post but won't because it is splitting hairs unnecessarily.

However, on the subject of Mr. Boekhorst, I am not so sure.

He starting playing at Swan Districts in 2011 as an 18yo in the Colts (14 games). He eventually graduated to the Reserves and then cracked it for a WAFL senior debut in that year too. He also managed 14 senior games in 2012 so I'm struggling to work how he wasn't taking it seriously because no club would be gifting players games in the higher grades.

Sorry, just stating my opinion, if that upsets people then so be it.

I read a lot of other opinions and don't always agree with them either but that is what forums are about.

3 years for 15 WAFL games then 19 in his draft year after deciding to work on his tank at 20 years of age.

Do you think being a state volleyball player and deciding to concentrate on footy at 18 and deciding to really get serious about progressing at 20 makes him a late start compared to most?

Korcheck has already been raised so the whole contention is wrong anyway.

Most people make it clear they are opinions though, not stating said opinions as if they came from the mouth of SOS himself.

Actually, you sometimes post in a close ended 'these are the facts, nothing more to discuss' manner that is almost dismissive. Counter productive to a forum setting or community spirit I would have thought.

Agree. The End.

Good thread. Lost its way from page 1 to 59, but had a solid ending.

Hell of a twist whereby Sheik was revealed to be Thy all along.

Thy sitting in the police station talking about Keyser Sheikse and he read it on a bloody coffee mug!

99.9% of all posts on here are personal opinions so in this instance and for a reason that completely escapes me, you have read way more into it than was necessary.

You can be assured that, as I have always done in the past, trumpetted it loudly & clearly when I have been given some inside word.

Wrong again, he played 24 WAFL senior games between 2011 & 2103.

During his Colts & Reserves games, he maintained the same level of output (around the 20-25 disposals per game) as he did upon making it in the seniors.

Put a promising junior into an professional training facility and you normally get natural improvement, this appears to be the case with Boekhorst.

I cannot find any info on his junior playing days but I'd be pretty certain he played footy as well as volleyball so it wasn't completely foreign to him.

That's the only reason I bring it up - you do sometimes come out with info from a source.

whats everyones thoughts on the essendon 12 that are currently suspended? they're all able to be free agents if they want at the years end.

I've heard hooker is pretty much gone (to freo), and hurley is also disenchanted. he's someone of interest surely? potential suiters in melbourne for him would be richmond (but they've got their eyes set on prestia from reports) and hawks (eyes on Jaeger) and both don't really need another key backman with rance astbury and chaplin, and then hawks recently recruiting frawley on big coin.

we would have a fair bit of cap room now following the departures of judd, hendo, yarran and warnock (all on big money).

would we consider offering hurley a massive front ended contract? i.e. 1 mil for first 2 years, 500k after that? I know carlton wouldn't be that attractive a destination, but money talks and unless he wants to leave melbourne, surely we can make a pretty big pitch?

imagine a future of Hurley weitering plowman docherty byrne/buckley and tuohy? pretty sharp back six.

whats everyones thoughts?

this would potentially give essendon pick 1, 2 (hooker) and 3 (hurley) mind you
