But isn't that a neutral net outcome? Don't we want to ADD to our midfield? Not just swap one for another?

I know JOM has more years in him than Gibbs, but together they would be worth more than the sum of their parts...

Yes, of course.

Upside is JOM would likely be a better player (if fit) and will play longer (if fit).

Personally I think it is better to pass unless the medicos all agree he is going to make a full recovery, which I am guessing is unlikely to happen.

We are not in a position to take risks.

Wasn't the early whisper that North delisted the 4 veterans to make room for JOM? If that's true and then he fails a medical, that would be quite a misjudgement....

But I feel that if that was true, they would've done a "secret" medical earlier.

Who knows. Who cares...

They will go hard for Swallow now.

Im completely staggered anybody is putting simpsons name out for trade not only would he not fetch much because of age as you said but what a way to destroy the fabric of a football club .
lol to clarify i never said he'd be traded. i said there's a good chance he won't be on the list in 2 years (meaning retired). i'm using that as my rationale for not wanting to trade gibbs.

Ive seen it a couple times dont even know who by wasnt pointing my post at you just staggered ive seen his name mentioned .

It seems that talk will sway back to the original, "We won't be shopping for any big tickets items" now.

Prestia won't be here and neither will O'Meara.
Of course we're interested and chatting to them but I can't see pen coming to paper for these guys or any other 700K+ this year.

A couple of good 400K players should serve us better in the long run.

Gee, this thread sure is motoring along with speculation :)

Wowsers! Even coach16 is on the trade everyone bandwagon! :p
Well... No, not really. It's just people are making such compelling arguments for the long term etc.

I get very attached and emotional about our players. I'd like us to keep everyone and just keep adding more players. But the rules don't allow us a list of 200, and I guess I have to change the way I think from messiahs and quick fixes to a steady build and a long term approach. If the club can do it, I should be able to at least consider it...

But for the record, I still want JOM...

"Re-signing" a player is not so simple.

The club and the player need to agree on years and $.

Given recent performance it is clear most Carlton players have been overpaid for their output - and have an exaggerated sense of their value.

Eg Levi and MK.

SOS is slowly bringing them all back to the real world.

I.E. Here is your offer - it represents reasonable value.

Accept it or we will happily trade you.
I agree 100%, it's great that we finally have a professional in charge of our list.

Because he missed time due to glandular fever, an ac joint injury and a concussion. Should we delist Curnow who got glandular fever so hardly got on the park while we were useless? What about Harry McKay?

Docherty only played 13 games in his season before we traded him in, and hadn't shown plenty. Players who want to play for the club tend to lift a notch, and within a few years Doc has made the AA squad. Im not suggesting Lennon will reach the same heights, but it depends what we need to give up.

Yes. Delist Curnow and McKay. Clearly dead wood and won't be around when we're pushing for finals.

Think he may have been promised a senior spot if he stayed, but glandular fever early on pushed him back, then by the time he recovered from that Dimma was in damage control and kept going back to the well with his "experienced" players trying to get pressure-relieving wins.

Everitt and 6 to GC.
Lennon to Carlton.
Prestia and one of GC's seconds to Richmond.
One of our thirds to Richmond :)

Lost me with the comment: Plays like: Robbie Warnock

I assumed that is what he meant by frightening proposition.
The thought of having another Warnock on our list had me go in foetal position hiding under the bed for an hour trembling in fear after I read it.

Still want him if the whispers are true about a failed medical at north or if he did indeed fail a medical at any club . As kruez supposedly failed one at pies and then played 20 games this year . This one could go either way imo if we got omeara could make us or break us . Its a tough one .

I'd argue less than 2nd round pick, given that he's lack of output this year. 2nd round last year since he was in the mix for their finals side, and he was out of contract.

Clubs would probably start by offering a 3rd or equivalent but I reckon the Tigers would be after a 2nd round pick for sure. He's contracted for another year and they won't just let him go I wouldn't have thought.

Would you really want to stay at the tigers after the year they had?

All depends on whether the Tigers are heading into 2017 with a realistic or delusional mindset.

Richmond don't have much of real quality coming through, but I think they did give their youth a go this season. Looking at the games played...

Vlastuin - 19 games
Rioli - 18
Short - 16
Menadue - 14
C Ellis - 11
Markov - 8
McIntosh - 6
Castagna - 5
Drummond - 4
McBean, Lennon - 3
Moore - 2
Chol - 1

You can only play who you've got and the above is more an indictment on their recruiting team than it is Dimma.

Surely he would have played more had he not been struck down by glandular.

Everitt and 6 to GC.
Lennon to Carlton.
Prestia and one of GC's seconds to Richmond.

Yeah I'd definitely take that. I reckon Richmond might prefer to part with their first pick next year rather than this year though.

It is a tough one, especially considering I wanted Carlisle at one stage. So I'm doubting my own judgment since then.

But I think JOM has ten years in him, and eight of those, at least, could be in partnership with Cripps, tearing opposition midfields a new one...

Yarran was contracted by Carlton this time last year. No point holding someone to a contract if they don't want to be there.

So as a club, you have a chat with O'Meara and do a full medical. His asking price maybe too much and doesn't fit in with future funding so you tell the supporters that his medical was not worth taking the risk on OR you throw a rumour out there that his medical is not good to throw other buyers off his scent. All clubs interested will do their due dilligence but you can't help feeling that there is going to be a few porky pies thrown around.

Pretty sure Brayshaw has the hots for the Swallow boys, he has had his sights on the other brother for years.

I have no medical qualifications and only the information I researched, but I have become somewhat exasperated by people reading "out for 2 years" and thinking that's career over.

If you are correct then quite possibly this could be a greater issue, but i suspect our ancillary observations, that O'Meara is in high demand contract and club wise suggests a degree of medical confidence from several parties

Hi b and s,

I'm actually an allied health professional who specialises in lower limb sports and paediatric injuries for what it's worth. Certainly doesn't make my opinion gospel on the matter just trying to offer some information on what the club might be looking for. Also not saying youre any less likely to be correct than I am.

I do know first hand though that there are a reasonable % of athletes than either never properly recover or are significantly hampered from this particular type of injury long term.

I actually agree with you in that we're all only speculating even the most highly educated on that type of injury won't know without a clinical inspection and scans. In an earlier post I said I think you'll get a reasonable idea of the likelihood of a successful return by the strength of ours and other clubs bid. I still think this, it Will show you how medically confident they are.

Trust me when I say no one would love to see jom in navy blue more than me. Provided Were getting what we pay for. I'd even take him at 80% provided are trade outlay is equal to or less than our return.

Bottom line sos is no ones fool and will make the right call well no soon enough!
