Supposedly the Hill and Breust trades get Mitchell as both are worth first round picks according to Hawks fans.
And they use pick #18 with Whitecross thrown in as the steak knifes to get JOM.

Breust

Since when!

If so YES YES YES YES WANT!

No more guys that can't get games for other clubs (excluding GWS)

Lennon does not fill me with any excitement.
I see Lennon in the same vein as Doc before he came to us, except has had a tough trot with injury this year - otherwise would've had more opportunity.

Was a passionate Bluebagger growing up and has talent, just needs a change of scenery and a jumper he actually wants to play for.

Lennon reminds me more of Lamb - talented junior with decent skills and a goal kicker but a little off the pace at AFL level.

Not sure he's part of the solution.

I have to laugh at Monga's suggested outs. Does the guy do any research at all... or has he just picked out names of players who he thinks should be delisted?

A couple of them he is right about... but for the most part, he is just picking names off the list and not doing any research!

Matthew "Monga" Lloyd did earnestly suggest the Yarran for Gumbleton trade so make of that what you will - I believe he's a moron but that's just me.

Matty Wright couldn't get a game and Lennon had glandular then a concussion.

I am not sure he is an AFL talent but I will back SOS

I'm pretty sure I heard a reporter mention it as well. Something seems fishy to me, he's still not re-signed and I just get the feeling SOS sees some currency in him for our rebuild.

He isn't the type of character you would like to lose but we just don't have all that many players with currency, if he could go to a place like the swans (who could do with another good kick from half back) and have a chance at a flag, I think I would say good luck to him.

"Re-signing" a player is not so simple.

The club and the player need to agree on years and $.

Given recent performance it is clear most Carlton players have been overpaid for their output - and have an exaggerated sense of their value.

Eg Levi and MK.

SOS is slowly bringing them all back to the real world.

I.E. Here is your offer - it represents reasonable value.

Accept it or we will happily trade you.

my point is that in 2 years time when simpson in all probability isn't there and murphy could very well join him, our list is looking very devoid of quality experienced players to lead the new draftees that we pick up. we need to have at least a riewoldt, montagna, boyd, murphy, jones, vince, cross on our list to help the younger ones develop. gibbs could very well be the only senior elite player we have there. we certainly don't want to do a melbourne and hand the keys to the kids too early.

I'm banking on murphy having 3 years left and Cripps taking over at the 100 game mark.

Which are reasonable (even conservative) assumptions.

People are down on Lamb but i think he can shine in the right system. Tbh I am more worried about our foward structures and the coaching.

he's had three systems now. what is his right system? our coaching is fine. we just lack quality ball use through the midfield and talent up forward.

GCS are looking for experienced mids. They have a plethora of early 1sts, and a ton of cash and marketing money. Doubtfull Bryce would want to head up there though. Hinkley has also stated Port are also looking for experienced players; we'd easily get their 1st off them (plus change). Adelaide believe they're in their window at present. They'd hand over this year and next years 1sts.

Wouldnt get anything other than a second rounder for him due to age. Not worth it. His leadership and experience among a young backline is invaluable. I'd only trade him if he asked to go for a chance at a flag elsewhere. He's earnt that right.

Late first at best. You dont trade your captain for a late 1st.

I'm not suggesting that we do. I'm suggesting selling 1-2 of them. Then another 1-2 next year. A staggered release to get new talent in the door during the reset.

In 5 years if all goes to plan, we'll be pushing for a top 4 spot for the first time. The intent is to maintain that rage for the 5 years afterwards (build sustainable success like Hawks and Geelong have done). Gibbs might still be running around in 5 years time playing (I expect him to be) but I dont know how long he can go for after that. A player we draft this year would be between the ages of 24-29 over the same period, and would serve us better.

Im happy either way with Gibbs to be honest; I just feel that we need to maximise our presence at the pointy end of the draft over the next few years in order to give us the best chance at a flag sometime from 2021-2026, and for sustained success after this period. He's one of the players we could afford to lose who would help us do just this.

If we could persuade him to head north, GC would hand over pick 4 for him in a heartbeat, and maybe also one of those 2nd rounders. That would let us draft 2 players at 4 and 5 (Marshall and one of Brodie/ Mcgrath/ SPS/ Mcluggage/ Ainsworth) and have 2 seconds to pick up one of (Kerr or Battle) and someone like (Venables) - or trade off one of those seconds to pick up Marchbank/ Tomlinson and still have a presence at the early part of the draft.

Id take it and run.
Im completely staggered anybody is putting simpsons name out for trade not only would he not fetch much because of age as you said but what a way to destroy the fabric of a football club .

Has an impeccable juniors history.

I'm keen. Third rounder, but they'll ask for our second.

Coaching ??? You can't be serious surely ? We have a bottom 2 list in the league talent wise hands down, and it was a bloody miracle we won 7 games this year.

The foward line problems have been there for years, you can't seriously blame Bolton for that ?

Anyhow I've always been a believer that premierships should be built up from the backline first, and on that score, we're shaping up nicely going fowards (Weiters clearly tired out as the season went on) but we're still short another strong KPD to handle the Gorillas now that Jamo has retired.

But people get too caught up in the glamour of the fowards, Jeremy McGovern has probably had as good a season as Josh Kennedy as for West Coast this year, if not better, but he doesn't get anywhere near the hype or fanfare cause of his position.

We didn't lose by 100 points once this year, I call that significant progress, the next step is to try and not get belted by 10 goals plus once next year (big step i know)

Bolton is 100 right in getting our defensive structures and fundamentals set up first and foremost (and really we haven't got a potent fowardline in any case)

Wouldn't surprise me if North's 'failed' medical test on JOM was just sour grapes by Norf because he told them to GAGF !!! :)
Wasn't the early whisper that North delisted the 4 veterans to make room for JOM? If that's true and then he fails a medical, that would be quite a misjudgement....

But I feel that if that was true, they would've done a "secret" medical earlier.

Who knows. Who cares...

I am not so sure it bats that deep though.

Reading all of the draft "experts" in the media and online pass judgement on this year's draft pool, the rule of thumb they are putting out is something like this :

Picks 1-4 : good solid players, but not great
Picks 5-30 : throw a blanket over all of them, they have a flaw or two
Picks 31-80 : put on your miners hat, you are going to have to dig hard to find gold

To put this into some sort of perspective, if Weitering was in this year's draft, he would be in a higher ranked group above 1-4.

If we were able to achieve trades that realised the number of picks you outlined but it was for next year's draft, I'd be ecstatic !! The overall belief is that 2017 is going to be an infinitely stronger pool of players, James Worpel being one of the best in there.

I can't recall who but I read at least twice it bats to 40. That's the good prospects. So any pick after that is rubbish really.
