I reckon the fans want Kelly but it would be a blue chip investment buying Shiel, Kelly is looking good but not an established elite mid yet. Shiel is a gun and probably 10% better than Treloar with scope for improvement.

Ok we have different sources then. Who wouldn't be surprised we both have sources that make the clubs we both follow sound like we got the better deal.
I'm not so sure we got a better deal, rather than a generally on par deal that most other clubs were offering in terms of Aish.

From what I know, whilst we had strong discussions with Treloar and his management and figures were put out there, there was another bloke from gws who we wanted ALOT more and that was fact from pre season last year. I honestly don't think we were ever seriously end game candidates for Treloar. Also salary wise he would be on a big salary based on what some offers where that I had heard. Great player but I don't think you got him cheaply in respect to his contract
Hah, I wasn't even aware of St Kilda's interest in Treloar tbh! The main players in that one were Collingwood, Richmond and North afaik. As I said earlier, I don't think anyone regards the reported $650-700k figure as cheap :thumbsu:

I reckon Collingwood have a huge advantage in so many of the other clubs in Victoria with their big crowds, outside football advantages due to their networks and just in the perception of professionalism. It's pretty hard to pass up the offer to go there over another club with lesser facilities.

Collingwood might have such a good midfield coming through guys will have to leave for opportunity soon. Guys like Broomhead will eventually get elite or be pushed out if guys like Scharenberg come on at the level he is expected to. Collingwood probably need to address the KPDs but they are close to a very very good list now. Pies look like a top 8 club with the addition of Treloar. I reckon they are probs 2 years off premiership contention -if the GWS juggernaut doesn't halt all the building Vic clubs chances first.

Broomhead is definitely a worry for sure. I've been a big fan of his, and can see him becoming big time if he can get some continuity in his game, but he has just had such rotten luck with injury that he has struggled to establish himself as best 22. He's certainly one I can see heading back to SA at the end of the year if he doesn't cement his spot, which would be a massive shame.

In terms of our key backs, we aren't as badly off as people seem to think. Brown was actually one of the leagues best performed full backs last year, and if Reid can stay fit he can be one of the most damaging CHB's league wide with his intercept marking and rebound kicking. Marsh will surprise many this year and we have Keeffe returning in 2017 too. Our main concern is finding another key forward to play alongside Moore and Cloke, but if Cox can keep developing at the pace he has over the past 12 months he could become an extremely awkward 3rd tall forward to match up on. I do wish we had gotten Bruce from GWS though. You guys killed it with that trade.

As for the GWS juggernaut, I'd add GC to that category too. Had horrific injuries last year, but with a fit list I wouldn't be surprised if they push hard for top 8 this year.

His start to this year has been excellent. Shame he's probably not a priority for us these days.
What future role could you see him playing for us?

I wonder why Collingwood passed on him..

Which he is.

Not Two Metre Peter but would be very happy with Stewart

He's done it, but I wouldn't want to rely on it; he's still very light at 93kg.

Interesting that the article specifically mentions us though...

No idea, but I've seen him listed as 196, 197 and 198cm, and I'd hope he was at the top end of that if we were going to ruck him.

As I said above he's still pretty light, but is very athletic and a surprisingly strong contested mark. He's got elements of Roo about him in his pace and running ability for his height.

I reckon he could play the same role as Justin Westhoff at Port, i.e everywhere. He's played on the wing in the NEAFL.

He only turned 22 a few days ago too.

Further on Stewart, he was a midfielder that grew quite late and ended up 196/197cm. As Rors will tell you, that takes some getting used to.

On top of that, he had stress fractures in his back as a kid - no doubt as a direct result of that astronomic growth spurt - and from his drafting at 82kg (i.e very very skinny) he's had to deal with the effects of putting on 11kg to fit his new frame. Again, that takes a lot of getting used to.

If Hickey doesn't work as a forward, if Pierce doesn't either, if Longer stays purely a ruckman and we decide we want to play a ruck/fwd, he's certainly an option.

He's also capable - like Richo - of playing a role on a wing, or as a secondary marking forward. He's potential competition for blokes like Membrey as much as the rucks.

HF: Stewart - McCartin - Weller
FF: Lonie - Bruce - Hickey

HF: Membrey - McCartin - Weller
FF: Lonie - Bruce - Stewart

HF: Sinclair* - McCartin - Weller
FF: Stewart - Bruce - Lonie

Are all feasible forward setups.

EDIT: if you want to get really silly... ;)

CR: Roberton - Acres - Stewart
HF: Weller - McCartin - Membrey
FF: Hickey - Bruce - Lonie

Hickey: 201cm
Stewart: 196-198cm
Bruce: 197cm
McCartin: 194cm
Roberton: 194cm
Acres: 190cm
Membrey: 188cm
Weller: 182cm
Lonie: 174cm

Avg. (taking Stewart at 197cm): 190.7cm.

Me too, love this kid, so glad the Pies didn't get him and Moore from FS. They would have had a free hit at a gun forward line for 10 + years. He looked like a piece of dental floss for a couple of years but he's certainly filling out.

He is virtually unrecognisable from his U18 year. Looks like he's been taking creatine through an I.V.
Question is: Can he play?
Sure can. Consistency and impact the issue.

Will not worry GWS...they have Tomlinson , Finlayson , Himmelberg.
They will get the best tall defender in the draft from their academy - Macreadie
They will also the best tall forward in the draft from the academy- Sproule

True.

Plus Setterfield in the middle. There'll be a bunch of fire sales while they've still got the Riverina kids coming through.

I'd definitely have a crack at Stewart.

Yep, I'd take Stewart too. Tall forwards would be set for 10 years - Bruce, McCartin & Stewart

I'd still like us to push hard for my man Marchbank. That would be tall defenders set for 10 years - Carlisle, Goddard & Marchbank

Pretty much living in a fantasy land thinking about getting these 2 but hey, if we've all learnt something on here in the last 3-4 years its just a bit of fun to dream a little

On the otherhand, if Jack Leslie (Gold Coast) shows a bit more this year, I'd be getting in his ear too. Would be a shitload cheaper than Marchbank too

Love Jack Leslie; has a super amount of mongrel in him.

Was a ruckman as a junior, and is 197cm 96kg, so he's a potential fwd/ruck candidate too.

I think our main concern is top shelf midfielders so thats what we should go for. Use our late picks in the draft for project kpp's.

2016 first round pick- best avaliable mid
2017 first round pick- trade for a ooc mid, prestia ,parker ect
