Would rather shit in my hand and clap than trade for that injury bust

It's unlikely he comes to us from what I know, and we wouldn't be giving up anything
for him if he came, call it karma for Dildoro trying to **** us last year with the Hawks.

As far as JOM goes, absolutely I would go after him, we would be buying very low in the marketplace, as compared to high when he gets back on the park and displays his abilities again.

NB: With all respect to Rors, he is guessing about the prognosis of JOM's injuries, and he would be the first to admit it.

There is nothing at all to suggest he is going anywhere for nothing whether its us or another club. Those that know about these things are suggesting at least a first round pick. The only way he could go for nothing is if it went to court and id be pretty certain that will not happen. As for JOM well he still would get a first rounder but now it would be a lower one than previously. I don't think we can risk him as well as Freeman. Pass.

If we got JOM it would mean that we have two on our list who between them haven't played a game at AFL level in the last two years, yet between them they would be taking up over $1 million of our salary cap and would have presumably cost us a first and 2nd round pick.

Thanks but no thanks. That has the very real potential of turning out as badly for us as the Boyd deal is looking like turning out for WB, if not a lot worse.

Meanwhile, news from Whitten oval is they have just completed their census forms.

Apparently they have:

No money
No hope of winning the flag and
About 100 delusional, bitter BF posters

If we recruit JOM I've got no doubt the offer will be subject to a medical check & we'll walk away if he's cooked. Gotta have faith in our club to make the correct decision.

TBF, I do say that to others over the club's decision in trade week, so it's hard to argue against it.

I'm just hugely uneasy about JOM.

I have to say, I don't have a lot of faith in our decision to get Freeman, so I'm just hoping we don't go to that well again. JOM is looking like Jesse Smith Mk 2, but at a MUCH higher cost to us if we get him. Could be another Andrew Lovett type total bust.

It's an absolutely MONSTER long shot, but imagine this midfield - fit - in 2018...

RK: Hickey - O'Meara - Steven
CR: Freeman - Ross - Newnes

With Armitage, Acres, Gresham, Dunstan, Billings, Sinclair and others involved as well...

I've still got hope Freeman pays off. His form is shit however he's set for 4 (?) games in a row. Thats progress & more than he had over 2 years at the pies.

Smith was a free swing. I doubt we gave up much money & we gave up pick 80 or something. No regrets there. Lovett tho.....

My point is that there is probably as much risk that we get a Jesse W Smith type result if we get JOM, but at a much, much higher cost to us than the little we gave up for JWS. Hence it could end up being like another Andrew Lovett type high-priced bust.

How many come back from not having played for two whole years and have a successful career?

As for Freezer, he's apparently jogging around, so I wouldn't put too much stock in anything he does until he's running around at near full-tilt.

IMO there is no way we beat GWS in their prime if we don't take calculated risks, whoever that may be.

Chris Mayne wants to go to Sydney as a free agent. Fremantle.F.C wants him to go to Sydney as a free agent. That is all I heard and am just am hoping Sydney are interested , cause I sure as hell don't want him at the Saints.
was reported norf were leading the race for him lmao, as long as he stays as far away as possible from st kilda im happy, horrible horrible footballer

I would love him at the Saints I reckon he could be a tall mid like Bontempelli only tougher.

There's a thread on the main board now about how Brad Scott didn't give The Bont votes in the coaches award on the weekend. I mean HOW DARE opposition coaches/players/everyone in the footy industry not join in on the Bulldogs Bont obsession. I see potential for a new Bont cult in the west to rival the Hird one :drunk:.

Let's all pray at the church of Gresham that the club does it's due diligence.

JOM is a risk, but isn't the draft speculative as well? As long as we don't sell the farm for him it is the only way as Brian said to realistically have the quality of GWS. Do we trade next year's first and back ourselves to improve so it's not a super high pick? Do we envisage us trading back into the first round next year anyway? All dependant on if we back ourselves to get him right but if we did as well as Freeman our midfield is looking terrific, and very deep as well. All big ifs but it'll be hard to knock off GWS without taking risks.

With all the spuds on Freo's list he is the one their supporters love picking on , and that says it all. That is from a great source too , so I was rapt to hear it , as there were a lot of people on this Saints forum pushing his cart.

I'm fine with that, but gambling a mil of our salary cap and two good picks on two who haven't played for two years is bordering on madness, or at least recklessness, IMO.

I'd much rather spend up a similar amount on Hurley, or as I've said previously, gamble on a Jacob Hopper or Matt Kennedy type next year, who very well could end up elite, but aren't yet. I'd much rather gamble a chunk of money and/or good picks on someone like that becoming elite at AFL level than someone who hasn't played for two years and who has a serious injury issue becoming elite and having an elite type career.

The fact that we've nabbed some diamonds in the rough for practically nothing like Membrey, Bruce, Mav and Robbo might mean we don't have to take any reckless gambles in order to compete with the likes of GWS going forward.
