Who's happy if the proposed Hartung and Whitecross for one of our picks under 20 deal goes through? Not a deal I'd do but what are your thoughts?

i believe it would be counter productive to the notion of acquiring early picks and also trying to build a premiership team. I would really like Whitecross and Lewis and maybe Langford but all for the right price.

Reading some of these posts is very frustrating. Brisbane's biggest issue at the moment is poor culture. It is Hawthorn's greatest asset.

Firstly there are zero gaurentees with any draft pick. Our pick 3 could turn out to be a mediocre player.... let alone 16 and above.

Hartung and Whitecross would be instant best 22 players for the Lions...... Actually both would be top 10 players. We just made history for the most points against.... ever!!!!
These are 2 top 22 players from the 2nd greatest team ever.

More competition for spots.
Less gifting of games.
A stronger 2nds team.
Better support for a very young team
And most importantly a massive dose of leadership and team first culture!!

Rocky is a great player, but has seemingly done more damage than good..... Our leader has contributed to a toxic culture.... just make sure he isnt here next year.

I'd love to see Rocky as a straight swap for the Tongue and WiTeX and maybe a future 2nd rounder off the Hawks (Their First is gone).

The midfield depth in the draft is good... So I'd like pick 16 too...... Drafting new unknowns is exciting..... They could be the next Black or Aka..... But we have some seriously good footy experience and brains making these calls.

For the first time in a long time I can relax and know the best decisions for the Lions will be made.

My issue with Hartung is that he is just another small bloke that will get bumped off the ball. We've already got Taylor, Bundy, Zorko who are smalls plus it looks highly likely we will draft Ben Ainsworth at 3. Hartung has his positives but for a team that couldn't tackle to save themselves do we really want 4 or 5 small blokes on the field getting bumped off at will.

Whitecross would be a superb get. He adds experience, leadership plus he fills a need down back. An added bonus that he is a Queenslander.

I agree with this bit. Pick 16 spent on a speculative teenage kid, or 2 established, developed players who would play straight away for us. For the age profile of our team now (with Hanley & Rockliff out) we can certainly benefit from these guys.

This bit has been oversold by quite a few, trying to convince others or themselves that the deal would be a bargain. Hartung had a good run of games this year but the team had some outs and Billy was seen as part of their youth policy (they got games into a few younger blokes this year. Whitecross is very much still a fringe player for Hawthorn. I wouldn't say either are "best 22" for the Hawks, but the points about experience and value still stand.

Both would be in our best 22.

The trade being suggested is 16 to Hawthorn for two players which raises the question what do GC get apart from Hanley if we are to get pick 10? If it is picks 19 or 21 I think the Hawks come out the winners there.

Im not sure Whitecross and Hartung are rejects and would be quite happy with them at our club. The senario that we get both for one of our picks is reasonable value but makes it a bit tricky list management wise. I certainly hope its not for 16 unless it is a more complicated deal involving other picks and possibly hanley.

Im almost certain we will be droping one or two players to the rookie list this yearm otherwise we wont be able to grab the academy boys. It would be a mistake to overlook them in my opinion as it is important for our club long term.

Our new coach knows these hawks players better than anyone on here. Some of you should pull your heads in. These guys will probably fit straight into our best 22. Really, we should be happy they are even considering it, our club would be the last one most players would consider going at the moment:rolleyes:.
For where are at there would be a large percentage of the players within the competition who would be best 22 in our team. However, that doesn't mean to just go and do it. Currently we have a great opportunity to attack the draft. Acquisition of Hartung/Whitecross/Langford wouldn't be a good if we were to weaken where we are at in this draft. For me it comes back to a cost/needs basis. I would gladly accept Whitecross/Langford at the right cost and not one of the picks that we have currently in the top 25 would suffice IMO. Also don't let your frustration get in the way of being able to articulate your thoughts in a more appropriate manner thanks.

I can't see us trading a first round pick unless we get one back we have already traded a first round pick this year this would mean we traded 2 first round picks in 2016 and couldn't trade future first round picks for a gun player in future years

That isn't how it works at all

Incorrect. by using pick 2 last year and pick 3 this year we would be fine to trade future pick should we see fit

I dont think that's how it works. I think rules arr we must use 2 first rounds in a four year period.

Why?
As long as u use 2 first rd picks in a 4 year period. We will fill that easily.

Wouldn't we be sending pick 16 or whatever to gold Coast with Hanley in this senario? I'd be hoping it's pick 21 and not 16 if it is the case.

Plus Hipwood as well last year. We're set for years.

Okay sorry misunderstood the rules but are Hartung and Whitecross worth a first round pick?

Probably not and you'd assume we would get a pick back or use 19/21 instead

Are you Hipwood counts he was an Academy player and we didn't really use a first round pick on him we used 36 and 38 wasn't it?

Yes. The AFL said so in an article earlier this year.
