Trying to remember which of our players to watch videos this week that had a great, fast handball from Elliot that resulted in a nice shot on goal for another player. I think it might have been Jarman. It was the very last highlight on that video.
You're not talking about the Signorelli handball to polholke to win the game are you?

I'm going to back 2 talls not on the list as big improvers, relatively speaking;

Elliot Himmelberg;and
Paul Hunter

I think by the end of the season they will have put their stamp on the SANFL side to the extent that, as we look toward 2019, both will be considered as likely candidates for key tall positions in the 1sts.

I have rated Paul Hunter highly for the last 2 years. IMO he is better than ROB.

As a pure ruckman ROB is miles ahead but Hunter seems to be a better all round player.

If I was Pyke, i'd pair up Milera and Mackay this pre-season and hope some of what Mackay does rubs off on Milera. I know Mackay has plenty of critics (i'm one of them), but if you could combine Milera's obvious class and skill with Mackay's running patterns, his ability to play across multiple positions and endeavor when he's on the ground, then I reckon you'd have a really good player.

Still reckon strength and size is mileras biggest issue.

Don't think he believes he physically belongs out there yet.

Don't think he's ever going to be huge, but would like to see him become wirey and chiselled like a scottie Pippen.

Reckon this would do him a world of good knowing he can hold his own.

Actually I went back and watched his U/18 highlights today. Quite a prolific and creative handballer is Elliot.

He's got a very good footy brain and is still growing! Hence the club being a little more conservative about his fitness abilities to adjust to his growing body. He will end up taller than Jacobs. He might already be.

Could he develop into a mobile ruck?

Out of interest - who is more confident now than they were this time a year ago? Not whether or not you think we will improve on this year, but do you feel better than you did last year?

I was pretty worried this time last year, felt like we were in danger of being swamped, thought our fixture was brutal, this year not so much, but I'll probably have a better gauge on it after the draft

Last year I was bullish on the minor round, and thought we’d collapse under pressure in finals

This year, I’m actually not sure how we go. We were already lacking forward pressure and defensive rebound and now we are missing Cameron Lever and Smith. However our midfield got stronger, we still have lots of good players and young players coming through, and we are well coached.

Unlike last year I feel there’s a chance we might get figured out a bit, maybe suffer from injuries, and miss top 4.

Overall I reckon we will still win lots of games, but get run off the park come finals by a younger and quicker team such as the Dees or GWS.

I had no sense of us this time last year being able to dominate GWS the way we did this season.

I think if we were ever going to win a flag with this group it was 2017. I am confident of making finals, but not confident we will bring home a flag. Having said that, I wasn't thinking we had a team that would win a flag this time last year either. That Sydney final and the choke against the WCE in the last game to seal top 4 gave me reason enough to doubt our ability to win a flag. This years GF has only confirmed this belief.

I feel better now than last year, I feel that we had more to prove last year that we could break into the top 4. I think that we will do that comfortably this year. I also think that we will be better for our GF experience should we make it again.

I don't see how the draft will have much impact on any team's chances in 2018 but this time last year I was pretty uninspired about our 2017 campaign having just been smashed by the Swans and despite everyone aware of our midfield deficiencies failing to land Gibbs.

I thought we'd be streamrolled by a bunch of teams.

Turns out Pyke is a bloody good coach and the Crouch boys are bloody good midfielders.

I'm still recovering from the GF disaster and Smith's injury but I'm looking forward to seeing how good our midfield can be with Gibbs and watching Doedee, Gallucci, Poholke and McGovern improve through the roof.

That is encouraging but I am not sure how that compares to the rest of the playing group.

IMHO, one of Milera's biggest downfalls this year has been his inability to run games out. He always starts the games off well and plays well in the 1st half them disappears in the 2nd. This indicates lack of fitness and inability to run games out. Getting a tank big enough to consistently run out games at a high level will ensure that Milera has a good season next year. Other things can be worked on but lack of fitness was a major issues for Milera this year.

Didn’t he have a dodgy ticker. Maybe there is a bit of an issue re fitness because of this.

More that the draft might just make me feel more positive about things

Yeah I’m more bullish this year. I think Gibbs will make a big difference and Gibson will help too

I didn’t rate our midfield this time last year, thought organic growth was bullshit and we’d be 6-8th.

We were a lot better than that obviously and with the Crouch boys development, Sloane and now Gibbs, our midfield is elite.

I’m confident Keath and Doedee can fill the gap left by Lever.

Cameron is an interesting one, he didn’t have a great year but filled a role with his speed, need Galluci or Knight to really step it up.

The loss of Smith has me concerned the most, he had a very good year and when on is a gun. Who can take his spot? I don’t think anyone will be a like for like and therefore we will have to change our style a little. Plus we will miss his kick outs. I’d really like Milera to have a crack at it.

I also think the coaches stubbornness with selection and respecting oppositions gameplans will need to be resolved, I’m hoping Don is switched on enough for that to happen.

It also depends on how well teams around us improve.

Fully agree.

While not diminishing the losses of Lever and Cameron I think we have the players to fill their gaps pretty well.

Smith's loss is the one that really hurts. I see Seedsman as the best posssible replacement, and I'm still hoping Brodie can return just before finals.
