Sheil, Hopper, Finlayson would be my preferred targets.

I'd settle for Sheil & Patton though ;)
Finlayson is the one I'd be targeting. Lives just down the road from MacReadie.

Key forward who hasn't debuted ahead of Cameron, Patton and Lobb.
Finlayson is a medium defender?
Actually plays both ends and does it pretty well. Has a bit of pace too. Be surprised if you couldn't pick him up with a Palmer type deal tbh or as a DFA. Will likely be a victim of the Giants TPP plight.

Azul read the 2016 section under his bios.

The unknown factor here is how is Fyfe going to rebound off the broken leg. If he is struggling to get into form during thenyear I think it becomes just Shiel for mine.

SPS, Cuningham, Fisher coming on during the year goes a way to alleovoatong our depth questions.

Reckon we will have a fair idea by the mid year bye if Shiel hasn't signed.

I'm still getting used to this points system.

It feels like a loophole that may need to be closed up a bit.
I may be wrong here, but we may need to buy ourselves back into the first round somehow, but if Ben was deemed to be a top 5 prospect, we could be getting ourselves a relative bargain here, by not holding a top 5 pick and having to match.

In all seriousness he's probably going to see more game time this year, but if he doesn't then yeah we've got a great shot at him. M.Kennedy seems the more likely candidate.

Jimmie, hope you don't mind. I followed your CFC teamboard link. That's a nifty tool for selecting teams, playing around with structures etc.

Oh yeah, and I agree. Role players can be really valuable, freeing up the guns to be creative, ply their tricks etc. They are the stepladders for the elite.
All good, that's exactly why it's there!

I think we've set ourselves up better than ever before to accommodate a player of the caliber of Fyfe or Shiel.

I do not think we'll land either - but certainly it is a possibility and I have no doubt we will be speaking with their managers.

All bets are off though if Adelaide come knocking for Gibbs again, and offer something we deem to be good enough in return. If they do I think the odds of landing one of the above certainly increases. Both? Very unlikely, but not completely out of the question.

Both will cost an arm and a leg so it comes down to whether we can justify the cost. Hard to say without knowing what the cost will be - but I think we're at a stage we can certainly look to bring a 'big fish' in.

One thing is for sure, we're going to have some serious cash to play with in 2018.

We'd already have plenty of cash to play with, and it looks all but certain that we'll have plenty more given the players out of contract at the end of next year.

We may well have to spend big on someone just to meet the minimum requirement heading into 2018.

Or a multi million dollar contract extension to Jones or Casboult or Thomas I guess

Imagine adding another 5-6 young guns next year plus Josh Kelly & Peter Wright. That's a rebuild ;)
Ah, Peter Wright who shall never again be referred to by that crap nickname.
When we get him he shall be known to all and sundry as 'Big Wrighty', as opposed to 'Little 'Wrighty'.
Settled, yeah?

Trade our 2018 1st rounder for Hopper .

Bring in Fyfe for free as a FA with a heavily front loaded contract to avoid a Freo match .

Trade Gibbs for Adelaide's 2017 1st rounder .

Take our 2017 1st rounder and Adelaide's to the draft .

Take B.Silvagni for unders in 2018 .
Love it.
Hope SOS is reading this thread.

Nice list of out of contract players on GWS's list this year :)

Shiel and Patton would be nice SOS *nudge nudge wink wink*

I'm sure a number of those guys will be pretty keen to throw away a shot at premiership success over the next 2-3 years to move to a club in the bottom half of the ladder.

A lot want to come home.... they dont like sydney.

Does the distribution of the salary even affect their ability to match the offer sheet? I know it seems logical, but if all they have to do is stump up the same amount over the same period, front-loading might not cut it.

EDIT: missed a word
