If you were Freo would you match the kind of offer Ferrisb has outlined above for a player who has said he doesn't want to be at your club ?
They'll get a 1st round compo pick , better than what Hawthorn received for Franklin .
Sometimes it's better to just move on .
The difference in the Dangerfield case i imagine was , Geelong didn't have the capacity salary cap wise to make a large enough offer up front to force Adelaide to pass on matching.

Unfortunately, its a change in a Carlton supporters mentality of late.
I tend to still believe and even try to keep positive that we can play finals in 2017.
I will keep an eye on trades, be silly not too, but main focus is paying finals in 2017!

I'm not across all the ins and outs these days but as ferrisb suggested earlier , 3 years at 2m outta cool Freo's jets and then an agreement between Fyfe and the club for a further 2 years at 250k ?
In any case , I'm sure if Fyfe were to decide to come to Melbourne and nominate Carlton , Silvagni and the administration could find a way to make it happen for us as a FA .

Rebuilds and resets and age profiles and depth and on and on and on it goes...

I'm all for strategies and planning, but sometimes as supporters we overthink...

Having players like Shiel and/or Fyfe at our club is a good thing. Having really good players at our club is a good thing, being competitive is a good thing...

This isn't directed at you King. It's just that every time a good player is linked with us, I read post after post stating arguments against recruiting them...

I realise our "old ways" have a few of us traumatised, but we can't just dismiss the fundamentals of footy... Good players in your side create a better team, club and culture and are conducive to success...

Depends what we have to give up in draft picks.

Agree but hard to see Freo not matching, so expect a forced trade for both.
Best case is a 1st and 2nd round pick for each.
However if we finish above Freo on the ladder, maybe they would take the FA compo and go into a full rebuild.

If freo finish bottom 4 I reckon they would be likely to let Fyfe walk considering they'd get such a high compo pick, especially if we offer over 1mil a year.

I'm not against offering Fyfe a huge deal (6.5 mil for 5 years sort of thing) if we get him without giving up any draft picks. We could front load it big time so when our kids are good we'd have enough space to keep him.

*please don't compare getting Fyfe on huge money to the Judd deal as we gave up Kennedy (4), 3 and 20 as well as big money for him.

And we have the most players from other AFL clubs in the AFL already. Plowman, Maccreadie, Pickett, KJ, Wright, Kerrige, Palmer, Sumner, Lamb, etc.
Lets get some more plus keep drafting kids as well.
Must get talent wherever we can find it (Ireland, USA, etc.).
SOS doing a great job so far 2 years out of 2!

No problem with the $$$ if Fyfe gets back to his best in 2016. But Freo will likely match $6.5m as he is their marquee player.

Don't forget we got Dennis Armfield as well as Judd .... Value of trade was Kennedy for Army, then a first and second round pick for Judd

So if SOS only can offers a later first (10+) and a latter pick (like the Jagger deal), Freo may prefer to take #3 as FA compo.

Also bit of a sniper as well.

Give me D Mart or Shiel over Fyfe any day of the week .

Interesting that most seem to prefer Shiel over Fyfe.
Shiel seems to match our age profile better and may have a lot more future upside, (having not experienced two broken legs).
But Fyfe was the best player in the AFL...

You don't cut off one hand just because it got cut a few times.

And I agree that Fyfe is overrated, but I still rank him in the top 25 of the league, which makes him an asset. It's his outside game that sucks, but fortunately he's such a good contested mark it often doesn't matter.

Just need to have the outside pace to give him short passing options.

If we could add Fyfe to our midfield he’d give us a huge upgrade and release our other raging bull Cripps to distribute and supply , Murphy , SPS and possibly Gibbs , wow that would be just an amazing thing to behold.

I think there are still some supporters who want to continue finishing near the bottom of the ladder so we can keep getting early draft picks, because that has worked well for us (& other teams) in the past.

Yeah there's no way I'd be keen on the club trading for Fyfe.

If Freo came 16th and had pick 3, it would be mighty tempting not to match a huge Fyfe offer and get pick 4 as well, then save the cash for a Hogan type recruit the following year.



Re Shiel, I'd trade our 2018 first as we won't need it as were getting BOSOS that year

many people didn't believe the dawks could get both omeara and mitchell however a way was worked out.

At this stage reasonably confident that in sos we have someone who could make getting a fyffe and one other eg shiel a real possibility.

the key will be in convincing fyffe to choose us because that will make it easier for shiel to pick us also. The fact both players are off contract should remove some of the negotiation power their clubs might have.

go to work now gurusos and co, starting slowly and with ultimate stealth bound them in blue.
