I can't see him at the Aints but you never know.

The beauty for Fyfe is he can look at how all these teams shape up in 2017 before signing.

Richardson seems to be quite an endearing character to me and a coach players may want to play under.
Of course Bolton has the same credits, but there are other coaches that players may not care to play under, all things being equal.

You'll get the player more times than not by paying an extra 200K.........although the story doesn't quite go that way for Marchbank.
What was the real story, I wonder?

Fyfe over-rated ?

Shiel is simply not a better player than him, not now, not ever.

The ONLY reason I'd hesitate to get Fyfe would be a crippling price tag or crippling back or leg injury.

He's a machine!

He was so far the best player in the comp in 2015 it was ridiculous, very few players reach that consistent elite level.

I read above that Fyfe is in the top 25 players lol, or would prefer Dustin ****en Martin rofl

If we can get him as a free agent and frontload the **** out of the contract it's an absolute no brainer.

I wouldn't do a Judd scenario, early picks are essential to build the depth again

Completely agree. Fyfe at his best was unstoppable. Can he get back to his best is the question for me.

Apparently he gave a commitment to us first. It does happen in life, less so in professional sport I imagine, but still occurs .

Thoughts on developing Polson as Simpson's long term replacement down back ?
We will need a small defender going forward so if we could develop his defensive game along with his skill set and natural pace we could have a gem on our hands ...

From the highlight clips, looks a pretty different type of player. Don't think I saw him take an overhead mark once. Bit like trying to replace Simmo with Murphy.

his back is no worse than our own Crippa's.
I would hope that's not the case. Cripps has had one stress reaction that I'm aware of and no other issues regarding his back. I thought Fyfe had a degenerative condition that will follow him for the rest of his career and require careful management?

I don't think we need a big list cull at the end of 2017 like many are suggesting, we know the likes of Daisy and Jones are almost certainly won't be offered new contracts, but we have a list comprised mainly of kids now, would like them to cook for a while yet.

I'd give Gorringe the flick, but think he is contracted till the end of 2018.

What a wreck , the dismantalist.

To be fair to Mick, the only player we lost that's still going well at their new club is Betts, i think people are seriously overrating Jeffy, Waite, Robinson etc. The bigger gripe is the replacements MM brought in (Daisy, Tutt and Jones etc) but i think the pragmatic view is that MM's list cull was necessary and probably long overdue. Regardless we should move on..

Is this a Crass Hopper thingy Thy?
I can hear the flute and see David Carradine in deep Meditation with 3 thugs closing fast across the open field.
I'd tell you if I wasn't busy snatching a bullet out of the air some corrupt town sheriff just fired at me........I am Cain...........

We're trying very hard to move on, but whomever installed him our coach should forever be reminded of the wreckage and lost time.
Sad thing is though they remain directors.
Lets hope there's a change.

Stop worrying. We worry too much...
Rebuilds and resets and age profiles and depth and on and on and on it goes...

I'm all for strategies and planning, but sometimes as supporters we overthink...

Having players like Shiel and/or Fyfe at our club is a good thing. Having really good players at our club is a good thing, being competitive is a good thing...

This isn't directed at you King. It's just that every time a good player is linked with us, I read post after post stating arguments against recruiting them...

I realise our "old ways" have a few of us traumatised, but we can't just dismiss the fundamentals of footy... Good players in your side create a better team, club and culture and are conducive to success...
If SOS had followed your recruiting philosophy we wouldn't have Weitering, C. Curnow, McKay, Cuningham, Marchbank, Petrevski-Seton and our first round pick for 2017 still intact. We would've thrown the kitchen sink at Treloar and O'Meara and would be in a hopeless position.

Whilst I haven't agreed with you in the past, I agree with you now. A healthy Fyfe as a free agent is an absolute no-brainer (and if Freo finish bottom 4 I don't see them matching any bid). We can't sit on our hands and take one high pick per year and stay down the bottom of the ladder, we need to bring in some genuine a-grade talent and if we can do this by getting a free agent it would be awesome.

What if we were to get fyfe as a FA, trade Gibbs for a first round (if he backs up his form possibly more) and trade our first pick for Shiel? We then stay in the first round and get two A grade proven mids. Minimal damage done to the rebuild

Yeah, I can see that. I'm not sure a first round pick will be enough for Shiel (though if it is a top 4 pick it could be close). Personally, I would prefer to keep Gibbs and go after Hopper, who will be a gun and is not yet a marquee player for GWS like Shiel is and therefore would be significantly cheaper. That way we could still hopefully keep our top pick this year.

You haven't agreed with me in the past???? Take a number, PM...

Seriously though. You make an excellent point. Perhaps I've been a little gung-ho with my views on recruiting. And had we missed Weitering and were watching him in another jumper, I'd be devastated...

So maybe a middle ground? We hang on to good early picks when we can, but also, maybe we don't automatically dismiss the odd genuinely gun player if we can get them...

How's that?

By the way, we wouldn't have missed Marchbank. He was on my Wishlist for a long time....
