What? Lonie is averaging more tackles than he did in his first year and the 3rd most of any player at the Saints.

Sinclair wasn't playing as a small forward yesterday.

Lonie's fwd pressure in 2015 was outstanding. He may have tackled less but made them stick.

This year he's probably been getting to more contests but more have been slipping.

I don't worry about checking stats to back up what I see on the ground. Most stats can be easily manipulated anyway

So can perceptions.

I see Holmes as a player that won't make the list next year. It's make or break for Sinclair. I remember Templeton & Murdoch got a couple of games at this time of year last year and then got banished to the VFL to never play again. So hopefully Sinclair shows his AFL ability. A little bewildered to why Wright and Pierce received 2 year deals rather than the 1. I suspect guys like Roberton, Webster, Billings and the veterans would sign on.. Other than that some players are going to be unlucky to be moved on, because all the players that are currently out of contract at the end of the season have some decent ability to play AFL. Maybe they'll move on Savage. But I don't mind him.

I'd say all those blokes are high priority!
This may not be a popular opinion but signing Roo shouldn't be a priority. It should be done at the end of the season. He's not going to leave the club and the last thing we want to do is sign him and then watch him limp through a final season after his body has betrayed him. The possibility is there and every year it gets stronger, we see too many champs go a season too many. The spirit is magnificent, he's a legend of the club but I think we'd be mad to sign him before the end of the year.

wouldnt they have just drafted him then given how late we took him in the draft? has he really come on that far? do clubs really go that hard for a back pocket/stopper?

where his improvement come from? i know the clubs talking him up, i havent seen him at sandy so generally interested where the growth has come from?
Yes he has. Just behind Sinclair and Stevens for Sandy against Richmond.

I was very surprised how much he had improved.

Also a trade suggestion. I know we have really good ruck stocks. But like we can trade longer away for 2ND rounder. Use that 2nd rounder + Josh Bruce for Brodie Grundy. Pies desperately need a key forward and Hickey is good but he doesn't perform against premier rucks in the Comp. Grundy is overall a very good ruck would compliment our mids nicely.

Josh Bruce is a good player but will we see him in our best 22 when Paddy & Battle finally start smashing It. opens the idea of playing Paddy along with Marshall or Battle. With Marshall in we don't have to worry about getting smashed in the ruck. Marshall & Grundy combination seems more superior to Longer and Hickey.

I personally find my suggestion very stupid but would like to hear your thoughts :)

theyre not giving up brodie grundy that easily mate, he's becoming one of the premier ruckmen in the game very quickly

Pies traded Witts last year. No way they are trading Grundy. Even if they were going to it'd probably take more than that to make it happen.

How about Longer/Hickey + 2nd rounder with couple of picks in 40's.

I just feel like Grundy is the type of ruckman we need.

I actually see Bruce replacing roo as the roving big target up front.

Even played on the wing a bit.

Bruce is very mobile for a big guys

Could see membry, paddy and battle as our big forwards with Bruce playing wing / chf role.
Would have thought Josh Battle would take that role. He has elite endurance and covers the ground well.

delistings are going to be tough if we dont trade anyone out
I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I reckon Shane Savage is on rocky ground in terms of his place on the list for next year.

He's quick and has a good kick, but defensively is lax and doesn't really seem to impact the game enough as an outside running mid. We have many others who play as half-backs, including two in White and Rice who will be pressing more strongly over the next year or two.

i agree mate, he has a lovely kick which some sides would love. off the top of my head the following sides could use him in their backline: collingwood, essendon, fremantle and potentially the WB is they lose JJ

Great post mate...

Last year we made 9 changes...

Tom Curren (del)
Luke Delaney (del)
Sam Fisher (ret)
Tom Lee (del)
Brodie Murdoch (del)
Brenton Payne (del)
Josh Saunders (del)
Cameron Shenton (del)
Eli Templeton (del)

I don't think we'll make that many changes again at the end of this year but we're already one down with Dempster's retirement.

From the players OOC I'd personally say Holmes, Miller, Baker-Thomas are you'd think certainties.

So that's four...I guess we'd need probably 2 more changes. Sinclair needs a good year, as does Lonie.

Dunstan as a smokey for a trade, not that we'd get much for him but if he becomes surplus by year's end, would help free up a spot.
