But it changes how much WE can pay. Therefore it changes how much they can pay. If we can add an extra million total to his contract through front loading that's still a million more freo have to pay. That's all I'm saying. It seems we were arguing different points though and you are right in saying front loading won't change the total amount freo have to pay if we only front load to take the same amount off the back of the contract.

Of course you wouldn't. Therefore, your position that "if we can get him we take him 100%" is objectively incorrect. Every player has a price; it's a matter of establishing what an appropriate price is, such that it does not jeopardise the future prospects of this football club.

thats what front loading is, paying more at the start so you pay less at the end. it doesn't change how much we can afford in total

This Fyfe thing is turning into a soap opera. There must come a point soon when the whole thing becomes poisonous if Fyfe doesn't re-sign with Freo.
The sense of desperation within Freo is becoming more obvious by the day. IMO Fyfe will start getting very negative publicity soon which spill into the fans at games. Then it will get very uncomfortable for him. He will need to make a decision soon and to declare it. This is the downside of free agency for a star player that a club has invested its future in.
There is no way the Fyfe camp leaked this. It's not in Fyfe's interests to cop more unrelenting speculation.
It's not in St Kilda's (or those close to St Kilda) interests to leak it, especially if the news is true. It would only antagonise Fyfe and Freo and jeopardise the whole thing.
The motivation of the leak is to scuttle any potential deal (if one is in prospect) or to bring the whole thing to a head and to clear the air.
Anyway, that's how I see it.
