They are also trying to accumulate points for Academy players which might explain the accumulation of later picks.

that explains it!

so they might actually not have a need for first rounders if they have more first round talent they can acquire with later picks

i could see GWS trading AWAY first rounders if it means they can get ready made good players that they dont have to pay for salary cap wise

GWS looks like they got a lemon with Deledio

I think they'll look to keep doing something similar to what they did last year. Get really high into the draft and then find later picks for their academy kids.

It really depends where they expect their kids to be drafted I guess, but the way they worked it last year was perfect. They would have had to have used their first round picks for academy kids but some smart trading saw them get Taranto at two and use a late first and a heap of other picks to get Stetterfid (5) and Perryman (14).

The fact they can pretty much manipulate the draft is another reason why the academy's are such a huge advantage.

thats a pretty fair call!!!

if they're going to be losing smith, with stevie j ageing and delidio doing another calf. surely theyre in the market for a genuine small fwd

i wouldnt be surprised to see them chase motlop. maybe thats why geelong as so confident on someone like hopper

Dunno about that. They have the luxury of getting his body right and wheeling him back in for the finals.
GREATER Western Sydney recruit Brett Deledio is facing a battle against time to take the field this season after injuring his other calf at training.

The 30-year-old was eyeing a mid-season return from a lingering right calf injury, however his latest setback casts significant doubt over his availability in 2017.

GWS added DeBoer and Mzungu , so their list management people might be interested in Nathan Wright , Jason Holmes and Lewis Pierce.

It appears GWS are dumbing themselves down to Gold Coast Suns level because all their stars wanna leave .
Once upon a time Suns got criticised for picking more ready made players as to GWS did with kids . Crystal balling i reckon both will have the same result in the next 5 years ....No flags .

would surprise me if Armitage gets offloaded to a Queensland club in a deal for Rockcliff

Why does everyone have this Armitage = Queensland fixation. There has never ever been a real suggestion that he wants to go to Brisbane or GC.
Its total speculative nonsense.

The only way David Armitage goes 'home' is if he joins the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL.... Bloke is from Mackay. He lived in Brisbane for 2 years then was drafted by us.

'Home' is more Melbourne or FNQ than Brissy or GC

wright and mcnugget should not of been resigned for two years, both should be on the chopping block this year

Wright is simply depth.
Pierce is a longer term project.
I love when people say how badly managed our lower end players are but who do we replace them with? More draft picks who you can say we're horrible picks in 2y time?

I know that but it just won't get into some peoples heads.
We are just as likely to trade Savage or Dunstan to Queensland.

Why?
Who do you replace.armo with? And where was your crystal ball after 2015 when he had a career best year and resigned?
Armitage isn't the only one, but on the question of who we replace him with, well Josh Kelly would be nice? At the time he was re-signed he was in career best form but he was 27 and signed until he was 31. I'm not sure why we needed him to sign that long. If we use our money and draft picks wisely I can't see Armitage playing in 2019.

The other guys I were referring to were Pierce who is signed on for next year and doesn't look anywhere near afl quality and I'm not sure why we had to give Wright two years?

Who would you be delisting to make room for our recruits and draftees this year?

Ahmeet is not the genius we all once thought.
I think we need to face up to the truth on this.
Wright may be fringe 22 on our list, but at any other club with a proper development coach he would be Judd mark II. Ahmeet is basically saving our bacon. He's a genius!!!

Not that it means anything but he also worked for Brisbane Lions the time he was drafted .

If we don't land Kelly / Lever or another prodigious "young" talent , let's take our 2 first rounders to the draft. Players aged 27 plus we either get for free or not at all , as until the Goddards , Freemans and McCartins of our team prove themselves , we must stay commited to continually building through the draft. Collingwood getting Mayne and Wells will hold them back as did Richmond getting Yarran. Let's not kid ourselves , our midfield just got carved up by the Crouch brothers and a 3rd gamer. Build wisely !!
