I know that but it just won't get into some peoples heads.
We are just as likely to trade Savage or Dunstan to Queensland.
You may be onto something there.

Brisbane's Pick 18 for Dunstan & Savage? The irony of that deal - it's exactly what we got for trading McEvoy for the same pick (Dunstan) with Savage thrown in

Watching a replay of this GWS v Carlton game, it looks like when GWS have possession that Carlton just played man-on-man defensive side of centre & had the high pressure zone down the line when GWS were trying to bring it out of defence, while when Carlton had possession, GWS set a wide web zone which Carlton absolutely picked apart with their risky kicking & speedy ball movement.

Edit: wrong thread. Should be in the General AFL one :/

in 2007 I did that.
GREATER Western Sydney recruit Brett Deledio is facing a battle against time to take the field this season after injuring his other calf at training.

The 30-year-old was eyeing a mid-season return from a lingering right calf injury, however his latest setback casts significant doubt over his availability in 2017.
he is good when right , but hasn't been right for 2 years - and he is 30 - I think they will try and off load him

If that Hawthorn pick is 2 or 3 it's going to be really hard to part with it....
Disagree. If a bloke who will place top 10 in the brownlow for 8-10 years is on offer then you pull the trigger. Our last two high picks in mccartin and billings don't compare to Kelly. Whoever is available at the two picks is an unknown quantity, on the other hand Kelly has already proven himself as one of the best players in the comp and he's only 22. If we can snag another one like M Kennedy that's a bonus.

The only way David Armitage goes 'home' is if he joins the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL.... Bloke is from Mackay. He lived in Brisbane for 2 years then was drafted by us.

'Home' is more Melbourne or FNQ than Brissy or GC

We're a different state.

Picks 2 & 7 for Kelly.... Surely we'd get some sort of 'steaknives' back? Kelly is a deadset gun, but that deal needs just a little something back to us.

Pick 25 or 26 coming back would be a stretch, as would hoping for Hopper, Kennedy or Himmelberg.

If we threw in our 3rd as well, I'd say we could be a chance to get pick 26 back

High risk play, but if it was pick 3 and we traded out a player for high first or 2ND, would that get Kelly? Then we keep our first for the draft and next year's as well.

Question is who could we let go that is (a) good enough and (b) another club would trade their first for or an 18 to 28 for?

I would never do that deal. That would be stupidity.... two top 10s including a top 2. We would need to be given crayons and put to bed by the AFL to save us from ourselves. It seems like since we got the Hawks pick cheap- (which was actually giving up last years first rounder) the forum is trying to find ways to waste them all as quickly as we can. Pick 2 with a future second is still better than they got for Treloar. people need to stop jerking off over Kelly and get some perspective.

Is it just me or is it the case whenever we are well placed with early draft picks the draft is not seen as a super draft year? Brett Anderson has suggested this years draft is not as good as last years and last year we were happy to trade away Pick 10. Looking at that draft Oliver Florent or Jy Simkpin would have been handy additions.

Obviously the recruiting team had a bigger target in mind this year which then was most likely Fyfe, and more recently has become Kelly. Willl it mean t
he lower the Hawks pick becomes the greater the likelihood the Saints will be to want to hang onto it ? Will make for an interesting trade period if Kelly does want to come to us. GWS will want Pick 2 or 3 plus another when all they paid for Kelly was Pick 2 in his draft year.

The top 3 picks of any draft are always the cream if it
does end up as Pick 2 or 3 I would be inclined to think including next years 2nd round would be more than enough.

Just wanted to make a few points...

1. IIRC the AFL bought a rule in a year or two back which requires a team to have a pick in the round which the bid for an academy or father son pick is made (this may only relate to first round? not sure). Thereby GWS requiring a first rounder or two to bid on and it makes them accountable for their picks rather than stockpiling 2nd and 3rd rounders. Thats what it was bought in.

Edit: it could have been related to the number of list spots being available and the number of picks in the draft.

2. No trade in the history of the game (IIRC) has resulted in a player being swapped for two high picks (i.e. a first and a second or two firsts). The only players that have come close (again IIRC) are possibly Aish (2 x 2nds) and Dangerfield, however the Danger trade had a lot of politics behind it (Geelong not wanting to pay him overs, doing a fair trade with Adelaide with regard to compo, etc.).

Even the Treloar trade got a second back, which I think makes sense as, in my mind, one player isnt worth two (at least not two first round quality players). If we do get Kelly for 2 x firsts we will be getting something back. Its just bad business if we dont.

3. I think we keep our Hawks pick and put a very large value on it. Try and get Kelly with our two firsts from 17 and 18. I think an end point if we do throw in the Hawks pick instead of our 2017 pick should be the Blues 2nd that I believe GWS have this year. At least that gives us a pick around 10ish and early 20ish to have a half decent presence or work something else out.

I didn't realise he'd done that already and his future is guaranteed to include 10 years of Brownlow voting. Perhaps we should use our time machine to go back and get him to flunk his interview so we can get him with the Billings pick.
