I don't think many players drafted interstate would be torn leaving behind their mates of three or four years to come home.

Fyfe - free agent
Kelly - 2017 & 2018 1sts

Keep Hawks pick - draft

Re-sign Billings & Robbo

Awesome result .
Surely we would have to use both 1st rounders 2017 and possibly 2018 1st as well ?
Having said that ....if both players said yes , you would do the deal in a heartbeat.

MG if it's the players that we all believe the club are going after, I highly doubt 1 Mill a year per player will get it done. More cap space needs to be made.

Even with trading out one of our fringe players, we will need to sign our OOC players on a significant increase of pay to keep them so trading out 1 of our fringe players won't be enough?

Roo & Montagna would surely need to retire to get 2 players over the line ??

I meant $1M +.
The cap increase alone will account for one of the wages in itself. (If it ever eventuates).

I'm not sure whats the go at the North board. We seem to be just cheering the fact that our club are going hard at an excellent player, with the occasional friendly jab at Norf. From their end, it is almost entirely juvenile vitriol and paranoia that other teams are going after him.

They have been rebuffed by every mid they've targeted, I'm not surprised.

Meanwhile with the exception of laverde, we've landed every player we've set our sights on lately.

I had a quick squizz on their board and I have to applaud them on their ability to make every single bit of news surrounding Kelly as a sign that he is going to them or part of a larger media conspiracy, where the media is doing everything in their power to stop Kelly moving to North.

Be careful not to go down the bigfooty rabbit hole...

I know this is a trade target's thread but personally I'd rather concentrate on us winning a few games this year instead of looking forward to the off-season FFS. If we fizzle out this year then money alone won't bring the likes of Kelly, Fyfe or Martin to the Saints. They'll want to see a team assured of finals footy in 2018. Let's get the job done this year first.

And the old ruck chestnut rears its head again. What will those already shipping Hickey out next year say in a few weeks when he's back in the team and Longer's running around at Sandy where he's best suited ?

North have set their sites on Pittard now... Why in their first year of a rebuild are they looking to bring in a 26 year old hbf? T

Because the whole thing a desperate attempt to grab hold of something (anything) that they think will slow their decent off the cliff they have already, and irreversibly, begun to fall off.

Hickey was dropped because he was playing like trash while Longer has just played one of the best games of his career (at AFL where he's best suited).

They are hilariously sad. Really relevance deprivation syndrome in full view.

Their insecurities and paronia is legion.

Really if we dont get Kelly, I will be disappointed but move on, like with Sloane and Sheil etc.

They are really a bit pathetic.

Said it on the weekend we beat the Giants at Etihad... I happened to be at the game with a relative of the Kelly family and the quote to me was "he absolutely wants to come back to Victoria and is every chance to be at the Saints.."

From what I'm lead to believe we did a lot of work on Josh in his draft year and spent considerable time with him and his family. There's a pretty solid relationship that's been built up and I believe we also tried quite hard to trade up to pick 2 in his draft year to select him.

Not claiming to be an ITK, but I'll back the source to be accurate.

If we did somehow manage to convince kelly to come to us. I'd have no hesitation in dealing with it in the same manner as geelong did with danger. Just give up the Hawks picks and next year's first and move on. Get it done quick. Keep GWS happy.

I think on such a sort after target like Kelly you want everything going your way. Let it be known to GWS and Kelly's manager our intention is to not **** around on the deal or make it messy. We know he will cost alot and we are prepared to pay. We want GWS to be in our corner and know they'll be well looked after compared to any other rival club.

Kelly for two first rounders regardless of where they fall would still be an absolute steal and it means we don't have to develop talent for the next 3 years before they fire. Saves us time.

History that more leave clubs that don't win a flag than do. Bugger all leave successful clubs and usually play for less. Now that's the history. You need to get off the golf course and into the footy world.
If you can't see why that's the case then lord help you.

It has nothing to do with the player being traded in on big coin it's just purely based on probability

Only 1 club can win a flag in any given year, usually you have clubs win more than 1 in their window so that further reduces the number of clubs that will win one and therefore meet your initial criteria

Added to that players don't all go to a couple of clubs that are in contention and the most likely to win a flag, they're traded across all 18 clubs. Thus you will always have more players traded to clubs that don't win a flag than to clubs that will win one.
