We have an oblivious need to bring in A grade targeted talent, apart from the cap implications it's just a disappointment if we don't.

If we get it wrong on a trade for one of these guys it is a disaster that goes well beyond the disappointment of having to hit the draft.

Due diligence yeah it sounds great but in reality what does it mean, the clubs aren't allowed to know how many strikes they have. Who do you ask, who can you trust, I mean depending on who you talk to you might be forgiven for thinking you were talking about two different people.

I don't think the saints can afford to get a trade like this wrong so it's a no from me unless we're 100% sure of our facts. I would ask straight up do you have a problem with gambling, drugs etc will you swear a stat dec to that, the AFL can't tell you but you can ask the player.

The player or his agent may tell you to **** off, I think that tells you all you need to know.

Wish we said no to Carlisle. And the club would really get away with the stat dec idea. Not.

My mail from P A is he is a flog and hasn't got a mate there

On SM-G930F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Mark ricciuto thinks not playing him cost port the game.

I like this guy as a player I always have he's as hard at it as you could wish for and quite versatile.

How good is your mail and does that sound likely?, he's been there long enough to hit free agency and is coming off a very good contract.

My issue with Stringer is not off field but his application to the game itself.

Undoubted talent. The game is littered with talents who could not commit to getting the best out of themselves.

If he doesnt train hard enough, wont listen to instructions, wont recover from injuries. That would be the issue, not if he played up on his missus or popped a couple of pingas.

I would want him doing his best for the team. All that matters to me.

They're issues you would back yourself in to correct, a bit different from a raging addict or a gambling addicted guy going over the falls.

How did fev work out for the lions.

I totally agree but sometimes you need to take the punt and we are at that stage especially if we miss out on Kelly. The guy has already been AA so we know he can play and did have application. If the club went after him I would be suggesting they think they can control him. The other options don't look great and we seem stuck in mediocre land.

Are we playing games of who worked and didn't work. How about debating the merit because we can all find examples of who did and didn't work. Carlisle looks ok. Buddy not doing to badly. List goes on.

Any idea when GWS are going to announce the signing of Kelly..........get on with it, it would be a great fillip for an ailing injury riddled side just the boost they need to get over an elimination final......so when are they going to announce it.

You are either a deep cover troll or the greatest man alive TEW.

Apparently they've located a guy in a town just north of Newcastle.

He's never played footy before, though he's not bad at darts and lawn bowls.

Gonna sign him today as a Category B Rookie.

Name's Josh Kelly.

Doin' it just for the headlines and subsequent boost to morale

Who is stopping us? The competition. You are not allowed to do it.
Where in the collective bargaining agreement does it prohibit clubs asking a player to do that?.

If you think this current young list is in a position where we need to take that kind of risk well your entitled to your opinion.

My position is we don't have any need to take the risk so on balance why bother?.

My Carlton supporting brother is a reader of BF and alerted me to the 'masterplan' that SOS is working on which will result in a trade period looking like:

Gain: Kelly, Schache, Rockliff, Kennedy

Lose: pick 3, Gibbs, pick 38

And I thought the North supporters were the most delusional supporter base on BF...

There is a few major holes in that guys story, but major one is that GWS wont let Kelly go if they dont get pick1.
Isnt he OOC

Anyway when did our club become hollier than any other club. Who gives a stuff what they are like off the field as long as they can play. We know Stringer can play and I trust the club to get the best out of him. Anyway we can continue with our current list and go nowhere fast or slow.
Agree with this. We're not recruiting alter boys.

We are in desperate need of game breakers and Kents with swagger.
Stringer could be great for us imho.

I really think you are doing what I get accused of and that's arguing for the sake of it. As I the clubs would be allowed to get players to sign a stat dec with the points you brought. The competition and the players association wouldn't let you and getting the players association off side would be madness.

As for the risk can you tell me what risk Stringer is. Any facts would be nice as I don't have factual risks. The only factual risk I know of at our club is Carlisle. I take it you want him out? And if we don't take risks how does our club improve? You don't want Kelly if we pay to much, you don't want Stringer because of an imaginative risk to younger players. What is your plan to improve?

A sea(ford) change could do Stringer the world of good. Everyone brings up his off field issues but for all we know he’s a product of the environment. Perhaps there’s a good reason why he has been out of form?

I think he’s worth a gamble. We took one on injury prone Freeman - I realize their pay packets are massively different - but at least we know Stringer will get on the field.

I’d hate to see him play his best footy for Geelong or Essendon. He’s the exact type of player that would tear us apart.

Maybe we should try and get him locked down before Norf give him 4.2m X 10 to help reach their minimum salary.

Carlisle was a stuff up that paid off, that's good luck imho.

Buddy I have no idea what your talking about he's played well and has had some issues, they are paying him a huge amount and they haven't won a flag, so you tell me.

Fev who had big problems which are now widely known was a disaster.

Debating on merit, how can I make it any plainer if the dire warning from other posters are true in regard to stringer then imho he is not worth the risk to a young list that will be very lucky to play finals in 2018.

His form has been bad enough to warrant being dropped twice this year, he has a long list of injury problems, he will cost a first round pick and a sizeable contract to win his services.

Who else could we get for that price without the associated risk, some very good players I would think.

Bye the way didn't you tell me we didn't need another forward or has stringer somehow magically become a midfielder.
