I really think you are doing what I get accused of and that's arguing for the sake of it. As I the clubs would be allowed to get players to sign a stat dec with the points you brought. The competition and the players association wouldn't let you and getting the players association off side would be madness.

As for the risk can you tell me what risk Stringer is. Any facts would be nice as I don't have factual risks. The only factual risk I know of at our club is Carlisle. I take it you want him out? And if we don't take risks how does our club improve? You don't want Kelly if we pay to much, you don't want Stringer because of an imaginative risk to younger players. What is your plan to improve?
Target players that you want in positions of need.

If those players aren't avaliable draft just like every other team, we are now 1 of the youngest lists in the competition but somehow we are desperate to just grab anyone avaliable.

The cap situation could easily be managed by any number of means including taking on a contract to obtain a young player we want or recruiting a free agent.

Charlie Dixon.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha thanks but no thanks, you guys keep him.

You did watch him on the weekend nearly carry port to the win over wet toast?... these are the type of people you want in the trenches with you, especially come finals time.. in saying that.. we don't need forwards atm..

Well that makes sense if he is a self promoting old fart but he isn't. Anyway when did our club become hollier than any other club. Who gives a stuff what they are like off the field as long as they can play. We know Stringer can play and I trust the club to get the best out of him. Anyway we can continue with our current list and go nowhere fast or slow.
Pluggs you cant be serious ... the days of the turn a blind eye on off field behaviour provided the on field stuff is top shelf has well and truely past.. and even when it was still acceptable that mentality has never been allowed at our club without damning critisism and negative results for the club...
you are right a player needs to be a good player first most but the AFL landscape is much more complex a drug scandal for a club like ours can be devistating, our sponsors we have to work so hard to get would run off in droves our profile in the media would be destroyed we dont have the luxury to be able to just wait out a scandal when we get caught up in one it bloody well sticks for a long long time.. so yeah it is important we do our due dilligance on a players background ...

as for our club being hollier , its not a case of that at all we are no differant to the majority of clubs in the AFL the thing is its more important for us as a club to keep our name clean due to the fact that it is significantly harder for the mud to be cleaned of us then other clubs

so, have we now moved on from Josh Kelly to jake stringer because either Josh Kelly is staying or he is moving to Carlton/ Essendon or North ?

No, because he is signed sealed, and delivered.

We have now moved on to the bonus round.

i would have thought the AFL's illicit drug policy and now the much stricter ASADA penalties have put an end to turning a blind eye to off-field activity

as soon as a club drafts a player they're taking on a million dollar commitment to that player (development, resources, staff, wage, insurance etc.)

you just cant afford to be taking on a bloke who could be rubbed out for 4 years

How is it almost time for another one of these threads already? Seems like last week when this one was made...

2017 Trade & FA Targets Part 4 will be the greatest thread in the history of threads, as Trump would say "believe me"

We need a player like Stringer so I'm glad you agree with the idea. Drafting wont get us up the ladder. You have to add quality players as well as draft picks. We have drafted for the last 5 years with good picks and we seem to have hit a ceiling. Young list is the most overplayed words when hoping to improve. You have to have players who will reach A grade even on a young list. We may have one to 2 of those types. We need more so that is why we pay what we have to for Kelly and if that is gone you pick the potential next best and so on and so on. Next year we don't have 2 first rounders to bargain with and if we finish around midfield we are only 7 or 8 picks better off than the GF winning side. That isn't going to get it done. Conservative means we have no Carlisle and probably no Gresham. Hopefully the club aren't like what you seem to want.

I think it is extremely naiive for anyone to think that players at all clubs are involved in illicit drugs.

There a few celebrated cases at out club. To believe that St.Kilda doesn't have the same problems as the other clubs is just ludicrious.

How many players not in finals would be right on it as we speak?

How many of our players?

We took Carlisle. How has that effected us? It has but in a good way. This is about Stringer and as far as I know the only thing he has done wrong is split up from his misses. By the way who said turn a blind eye to off field behaviour? And if we using rumours then why did Sydney get Buddy and why didn't we get rid of chips. Why is Martin still at Richmond? Why was Hodge captain of Hawthorn so long? The only scandal I see in us getting Stringer is what we may have to pay for him. Hardly a scandal.

You do realise that's for PEDS? Apart from those caught publically there still hasn't been a player rubbed out for illicit drugs. Hardly an issue at all.

Tend to agree with this. Aside from Gresham we really lack someone with any sort of x-factor who can play forward and mid. You could argue Billings fits in this category but Stringer when he's on is an absolute match winner.

Add someone like Stringer and inject some speed & class into the midfield and our team becomes a lot more dangerous.

It's getting played out plugger we have a different approach to how we move forward.

If we landed Kelly then clearly we aren't drafting with those early picks so your willingness to take a risk changes.

I still wouldn't go near stringer if the dire warnings are right , if he's just a lad with a few attitude problems then yes of course I would.

If we get Kelly we need to bring in someone else of quality as well, who knows interesting times ahead.

Fev was a Saints supporter.

Will get him doen the club to mentor Stringer.

There you go. Problem solved.

Mark ricciuto thinks not playing him cost port the game.

I like this guy as a player I always have he's as hard at it as you could wish for and quite versatile.

How good is your mail and does that sound likely?, he's been there long enough to hit free agency and is coming off a very good contract.

So are we celebrating this and collecting more of the same to keep the party going or do we just accept it's undesirable but inevitable.

I'm serious when I say I know nothing about dire warnings so you will have to tell me. Are they the same dire warnings that wrecked Hodge and Buddy's careers?

By the way Kelly is still one for me but I'm hearing he is gone. Stringer is a far better option than 2 young kids in an ordinary draft and by some margin IMO.
