If gws accept first and future first for Kelly if take it. Means we have a late first for stringer and maybe a defender in the draft or O'Brian maybe
Could also help you stay in relatively good standing with the 'must use two first rounders in a four year period' rule that applies (to everyone except Geelong).

Plugger is right though.. just because someone has their own demons or recreational habits, doesn't automatically make them a bad person or influence.. attitude, work habit and character do.. you cant have both, no matter how talented they are.. but i'd take Stringer if he met those certain prerequisites.

No it doesn't
But attitudes can sure rub off on impressionable young people and like trav said we do not need baggage at our club
There would want to be serious serious homework done
Doesn't matter anyway, he won't be coming to us
Josh Kelly will be joining his mates at the saints and stringer can play in a red sash or blue hoops

GWS will get rolled by West Coast
Give Jelly a couple of days to kick the feet up Libba style and it all equals 7 days till Jellys a Saint.

Insert It's happening gif here.
except WCE will get thumped by GWS ...
beating a wayward kicking Port (who were average at best during the year) after the siren due to a dubious free kick doesnt hid the fact WCE are a loooooong way off GWS even when crippled by injury - hence the WCE partying like they won the flag last week.. they will be cannon fodder this week

It's getting played out plugger we have a different approach to how we move forward.

If we landed Kelly then clearly we aren't drafting with those early picks so your willingness to take a risk changes.

I still wouldn't go near stringer if the dire warnings are right , if he's just a lad with a few attitude problems then yes of course I would.

If we get Kelly we need to bring in someone else of quality as well, who knows interesting times ahead.

Hey, what do you mean "if we get Kelly we need to bring in someone else of quality as well"?

Does that mean if we don't get Kelly then we don't need to bring in someone else of quality?

So if he signs a stat dec & is subsequently found to have lied, what joy does that bring us? None. We dont get our draft picks back & the contract still goes in the TPP...
I imagine the club would have some legal course to pursue, cold comfort I know.

Pretty hard for the media and sponsors to bend you over if you have gone to those lengths to protect yourself, as a supporter I would be pissed at the player not the club, that's about it I guess.

There's always risk involved even when you draft kids, I seriously doubt anyone will do it anyway.

I wonder how many secrets there are in the AFL anyway, Essendon new about jake as did quite a few others in another day or two so did everybody else.

If Charlie Cameron goes to Brisbane, Adelaide may end up with pick 18.

What are the chances of you guys parting with pick 8 (plus change) for 17 and 18?

You could do something similar with Richmond given they have two late first rounders.

Really it depends on what Kelly does and what GWS wants IF he decides to come to us.

If Kelly doesn't want to come too our club or if GWS are happy with 2 first rounders and not two top 10 picks then I don't see why we wouldn't do it.

I mean if you take that path then Kelly on his own is not enough.

The other path in the conversation was to draft more young players assuming we had missed our A grade targets.

look i dont buy into the bad apple poisoning the bunch mantra, even with a young impressionable group a player coming in as the "new bloke" would be more likley to adapt to his new surroundings then his influence change the already instilled surroundings... the risk i speak of is if the player comes in and doesnt embrace the change and continues down a path the his former club could see coming hence trading him out .. that kind of risk blows up directly in the new clubs face and as i said our club is perhaps the worst placed club to be able to handle a situation like that

I like it, then we could give gws 3 first rounders for Kelly and still have 1 left. That is a better deal for us than our current 2 first rounders for Kelly + 2nd rounder back.

Bulldogs wouldnt even entertain trading a contracted player of his esq if there werent major issues.

Any idea when GWS are going to announce the signing of Kelly..........get on with it, it would be a great fillip for an ailing injury riddled side just the boost they need to get over an elimination final......so when are they going to announce it.

Third in the AFLPA MVP....why wouldn't you announce such a great re-signing?

So for the sake of your argument, you are equating Jake Stringer to a recidivist ice addict.

OK you have convinced me.
no not even close ... im saying i have no idea what the issue is .. but the issue is strong enough that the dogs are willing to part ways with a very skillful player .. that has alarm bells ringing for me ... He is a great player and i would love him at the saints ,i have faith that the club if they do chase Stringer have done their research into him and he checks all the boxes.. the thing i strongly disagree with is the sentiment that we dont give a stuff about the offfield and get him cause he is a good player ...

Going to be an interesting week if the Giants lose. Have posters from here saying he's a lock to come, posters from the North board saying he's a lock to come and posters from the Carlton board saying that they are fairly confident that if he leaves GWS he's coming to Carlton.

Would be funny if he signs with GWS again.

I am in the get Stringer camp, but I am pretty cautious also. I think comparisons to blokes like Carlise and Martin are incorrect. By all reports blokes love playing with Martin and Carlisle. They have some loose tendencies off-field but are otherwise great teammates and fun to be around. They are universally liked within the 4 walls of the club. This is the exact opposite of Stringer. A Dogs poster wrote an interesting post regarding Stringer on this issue. Essentially Stringer has had troubles with every coach right back to his teenage years. The source......

His parents...

Stringer has an extreme case of FIGJAM. I mate of mine worked at the Dogs for a long time. Lovely bloke, never a bad word to say about anyone. Reckons the Dogs are a fantastic bunch of guys with the exception of 3 people. Lake, Cooney & Stringer. He didn't go into great detail, but indicated the ego on both Stringer and Cooney was next level. Couple that with a very thin skin and he is a difficult player to work with.

Despite all that, I actually agree with Plugger for the first time ever. We need to take some MASSIVE risks or we are staring down the barrel of mid table mediocrity for some time IMO. Our game plan and existing list is far too blue collar.

Take a risk Saints, throw some money at the Package and we promise Carlisle won't heckle you about JJ shagging your missus.

I'd pass on that. We need quality over quantity at this stage and it isn't exactly a deep draft.

The only way I see us doing that is if we were using one of your picks for a trade.

Fev was a Saints supporter.

Will get him doen the club to mentor Stringer.

There you go. Problem solved.

Yeah, could sort out our goal kicking problems at the same time! Two for the price of one.

Yeah but the bloke is 22 years old. Getting him will hardly put our list on the edge of a cliff.
No your right, that's one on the things that make him so attractive.

It's more just the course of action indicates the clubs intentions surely if we give up two first rounders we commit ourselves to having a red hot crack at the top four.

If that's the case I would want as much experienced help as I could get.

A sea(ford) change could do Stringer the world of good. Everyone brings up his off field issues but for all we know he’s a product of the environment. Perhaps there’s a good reason why he has been out of form?

I think he’s worth a gamble. We took one on injury prone Freeman - I realize their pay packets are massively different - but at least we know Stringer will get on the field.

I’d hate to see him play his best footy for Geelong or Essendon. He’s the exact type of player that would tear us apart.

Maybe we should try and get him locked down before Norf give him 4.2m X 10 to help reach their minimum salary.
Expect Freeman to be playing 1st next season, he is very determined to show his worth - still young has class, done the hard yards this year , ready to turn it on next year.
