No disagreement about the Suns current state. This draft however is loaded with top end, generational types in the top 8 from all accounts. I don't see why you'd give up those types for a kid next year that is a long way off.

If I were Carlton I'd jump at the deal.
If I were Suns I'd keep 2,3,6 or arranging a trade with the Crows for 3 in exchange for 8,13. Everyone knows both SA clubs want SA talent, so I'd try and play then against each other.

With 2,6,8,13, knowing SA teams would have 3,5,10 ahead of us (likely to be all SA talent) I'd look to pickup: Lukocious, Smith, Hatley, Clarke.

Addresses their key fwd issue;
2 gun midfielders, one of which is 190+ the modern inside player;
Clarke ton replace Scrimshaw & Kolodjashnij with Hanley & Harbow ageing.

I wouldn't be opposed to them staying with 2,3,6 and taking both King boys 2&3 and then best MID at 6. You'd assume Walsh(1), Smith(4), Rainkine (5).... It'd still be a talent player.
No doubt it probably stays as is, just wanted to go with something a little different. I don't think the top really changes much unless the Crows can talk their way into the top 4 picks. I think the Suns simply take the 2 SA kids maybe even reach slightly for Hately at 6 and bring 3 of them up together, in the hope that all 3 being together gets them to stay along with Dew selling them the idea of being part of the group that got things right on the Coast.

Having said that I still give my idea a little(like 2-3%) chance of happening as the Suns are quite unpredictable in what they do

I'm finding this off season really interesting. I reckon the club is taking a long term view, trying to rebuild the bottom end of our list with the aim of building a continuation of a finals team post-Cotch etc. And the way we've cleaned out $ will be interesting next year. Do we have another big $ player in our sights?
Tho he has mentioned Hopper *posts the Tiger71 call pic*

Be interesting next year's list management. We were sorta lucky this year with Hampson,Griffith & Drummond.
Next year will be tighter.

I doubt I've seen us offload a better group of players than this year's in my adult life, and next year will be harder again. Make or break time for Menadue, Markov and Soldo. Possibly also Ellis, KMac, Broad...

I really don't want to see Father Time take down any premiership Tigers, but I can't help thinking that Grigg or Houli will be gone by this time next year.

Makes sense. However, we also seem to be clearing up cap space. Which could be a retention strategy. Or it could be that we have someone else in our sights and we need future $. We'll see. But although I am super happy with how many depth players we're losing. I reckon that we aren't losing best 22 (sorry Reece, you lost your spot to Tom) and we are going the draft in a year with many good mids is a good sign.
Think it's keeping room for Vlas,Rioli etc.
Josh Kelly will just have too wait.

Agree.Very hard too see so many good people leave this year.
Next year will be Griggs last while I think Houli is 70/30 to retire as well.

Out of curiosity I was just looking at last year’s draft watch - how the hell did we end up with 3 of the top 23 in a premiership year and only really coughing up Lids for a pick to do so. It was a great few months for the Tiges.

Coleman Jones might have been not far off that list as well ....

It's absolutely pathetic that we are about 2 weeks before the national draft of the biggest sport in the country and we have 9 videos on the AFL website of potential draftees. They have made the draft into a 2 night extravaganza but with little to no advertising and little to no information on the draftees. The AFL is run by a bunch of amateurs.

Agreed with with Grigg & Houli they won't be in our best 22 after the bye this season of were to be challenging in finals again.

Not sure what our plan is with E

It's the same every year. Pretty frustrating

9/23 of those players had 17+ games for the year. Pretty impressive.
4/23 played 0 games
2/23 played b/n 7~ 10
8/23 played 5 or less

Balta and Naish were never going to play. And Jack Higgins. Wow!!! 20 games for the reigning premier.....I hope we pick ready to go types for our early picks.

Better group of players? Griffiths, Hampson, Miles, Ellis, Lloyd, Stengle, Conca. There's only 2 players getting regular senior games. And I feel that Townsend & Chol will be back on our list.
Ellis. KMac & Broad entrenched in the 22 so no make or break for them. Great chance for Garth, Menadue, Markov Moore ,Balta, Bolton to cement place in team in 2019

Full of big dreams but don’t follow up and back their ideas in. Plenty of draft bullshit all year and then when it’s actual draft time it dries up.

Hard to get air time and media space leading up to and during the Melbourne cup carnival. I’m sure it will ramp up next week and you’ll get your draft hit.

They are indeed all fringe players, but can you remember a group of AFL-level players being let go? It's a step up on Arnot, Dea, McDonough and Gordon.

I hope you're right about Towner. Chol - he has exciting attributes, but might be coming from too far back, IMO. Might be time to try someone else.

The Afl are dumb campaigners putting the draft over 2 days yet are doing nothing to promote it
They try to turn it into something its not
By dragging it out like the trade seriously
It doesnt need to lake 2 days .
AFL obsessed with US sport and how it’s administered. Not an original idea amongst those muppets at AFL house
