Dad didn't stay as long as could have yielded more info, but spoke a lot to Thursfield.

We are aiming for midfielders. Might trade into some 20s picks.

Last year we had a few players we wanted before Higgins but they were gone, but also wanted him so it was still a good result.

They are excited about one academy kid next year (Ethan something maybe?) and Maurice Jnr the year after.

Chol delisted due to terrible work ethic, but they've told him what to do to get another gig and he sounds like he is on track.

They wanted Stengle but weren't prepared to match Adelaide at 3 years. They are happier to keep Baker due to his exceptional work ethic.

They said Tom Lynch is there everyday and he is an absolute monster in the upper body.

They genuinely want to keep Towner but are going to 38 & 6 for the list, hence rookie offer only.

Not much about who we want at our picks but Dad may just have missed it.

Brandon Ellis to become a midfield run with tagger.

Markov got HEAPS of interest but we wanted to keep him.

Apparently Thursfield wasn't shy about who he didn't rate as far as kids coming up. No one we'd be into obviously, but I won't name the name I heard so not to possibly ruin a kid's confidence were he to read this.

We are internally filthy at Collingwood for being dodgy, Quaynor should be at Richmond but will get to Collingwood due to his mother being from Ghana, academy rule.

Brayden Rioli to Essendon for sure.

That's pretty much it as far as I can remember Dad telling me. He said it was great and super interesting.

EDIT: mods delete this post if you think it's a bit too internally revealing :)

Will be genuinely pissed at our recruiting team if we go Taylor over any of smith/Valente/duursma/o’halloran

Failed in the midfield is slow as all shit and gets no ball welcome back Lennon and Corey Ellis
Sounds a given...

Ghana is in Collingwoods zone?:drunk:

2019 Rhys Damon, Hugo Ingham from the Murray Bushrangers, Peter Clarke and Kobe Brown from the Bendigo Pioneers. Must be someone new.

Kobe Brown is the standout from that group. He played for Vic Country in the U17's this year and showed flashes.

Bytel stands out as the best player outside of the top 30 that would suit our need for an inside mid. Hopefully he slides to our second round pick.

Ely Smith (or a slider)
Jack Bytel
Tom Sparrow
Tom Lewis

Edit: Pretty sure we won't draft any of these kids
I think Sparrow is abit of a flight risk.(Go home factor).

17. Xavier O’Halloran (Western Jets)

H: 187cm, W: 83kg

Rated elite for goals and goal assists at the Under-18 championships, where he gained 24m per disposal. Seven of his kicks inside 50 were marked while no other player registered more than four.

SAM SAYS: The Vic Metro and Western Jets captain is regarded as one best leaders his TAC Cup club has recently come across. Only needs a handful of disposals to do damage but could slip outside the first round.

Plays like: Marcus Bontempelli (WB)

If Valente and Stocker are gone I hope we take this kid.

I think you need to take kids in the 1st round that can find a lot of their own footy at U18 level.
If they cant at U18 they probably wont at AFL

We could trade for Brisbane's 18 and 30 as another option. Would be difficult but not impossible. At least at the point of 17 we would have a better idea who will be left at 18 anyway. 2019 1st might come into play. The other thing is 18 will be later on the night due to matchings

According to this article if we traded next years first for say 24 and 29 we could get
Stocker
RCD
Taylor
Ely Smith

The trouble is we could do that and not be able to get any of them either. Some have 24 end up being 28 or later. It would be a tricky balancing act if we want certain players and we should not cut our nose off despite our face and get too cute either.

With our 2019 1st at least we have the chance to trade into the second round of the 2018 draft later if it suits us. For example we might get the person we might really want at 17 which is actually 20 or 21 or whatever and then by 24 which is 28 we might say, well 24 is now pick 28 and 28 will now be 31 or whatever but there are 2 to 4 players we really rate and we will get one we want for sure and a dam good chance of another. In that scenario be interesting to see what the club(s) between 24 and 29 are chasing at that range but impossible to know for sure. But we could equally do this for GWS picks 19 and 25 or Melbourne's picks if they felt inclined to trade. West Coast could entertain a trade to if they felt certain players might still slip they could get later and we could somehow get them later picks. I have no idea what could happen but just say Hill slips and West Coast don't want him early but would take him with a later pick we could get to them from another club. Lot could change on the night because some of these clubs might want other players at different stages in the draft if some players have jumped the queue while others are slipping. GWS picks of 19 and 25 are a bit more interesting in this context. At 17, at our first pick, we have a better idea who will probably be there at 19 and later West Coast might want to trade one of their picks for 25. Having said that do we play argy bargy and get West Coast to use 24 or 22 when they would rather use 25( assuming we got it from GWS) on a player?

My Dad just went to a legend's member draft function with some coaches and recruiting staff.

He isn't home yet but my brother picked him up from the station to drop him at the nearby pub and got a little tidbit:

We are apparently looking at trading #17 for a couple of picks in the 20s.

Something to mull over... I'll see what else he says when he gets home :)
Would prefer if we keep #17.
If it's West Coast's 2 picks (20 & 22) then i'd be ok with.A later pick back to them or next year's 2nd.
Melbourne 23 & 28.&
Suns 24 & 29 I wouldn't for 17.

Kid is rated higher than Stocker and Smith because he has a bigger impact on games with fewer touches.

There is no point a player getting it 30 times if he has no real impact on the game.

As they say quality over quantity

I don't think there's any chance of RCD being available at our pick and the club probably know this - if he slid to us, I'm sure that could change our plans - but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As much as we're all convinced that we need young inside mids the club may not agree. This could be our plan over the next few drafts.

Caddy will most likely be playing more midfield with Lynch coming into the forward line, Caddy will still go forward obviously, but possibly less.

Higgins will play more TOG midfield too and I expect Dusty will also as he was obviously playing injured this year.

Don't think our midfield lacks as much depth as we think and a draftee wouldn't solve our alleged issues.

Add those 3 to Cotchin, Prestia, Titch, Lambert, Graham and we have 8 potential clearance players. That's not even considering if we take a mature age player like Mitch Grigg or Michael Gibbons.

St Kilda was very good at winning clearances and guess who is in charge of our clearances/stoppages in 2019? Adam Kingsley.

We'll be fine.
Sorry to quote myself but this aligns to what I was implying.
