"The new Blues list manager wasn’t on board last year, but he was seen by senior AFL officials shaking his head as Carlton picked Boekhorst when players such as key defender Hugh Goddard were available".

Funny thing is Hugh and that Essendon spud Laverde were the players we were negligent in not selecting in front of Boekhurst.

Personally I thought Boekhurst was getting some reasonable form at the end of his last season, was one we could use right now with our complete lack of outside run but Clearly had a shit attitude

A lot of people in the Draft room had the same reaction when the Carlton called out O’Brien’s name at number 10 in last years draft too.

I find that quite shocking given that Lochie was regarded as a top 5 pick in his underage year and the first half of draft year until injuries halted his progress.

Should we look at bringing in someone to play a role similar to Luke Hodge at the lions this year? If so would we look at Harry Taylor I think he would be amazing to help develop Weitering and Marchbank. Also could Roughead and Burgoyne be options?

While I'm not going to be defending Hughes or Rogers, SOS did call out McKenna mere picks later.

Best case scenario for us in the early stages of that draft would have been Toby McLean and Touk Miller.

Good on the guys for getting contract extensions but I must say, I wonder whether the rush is warranted.
Admittedly Kerr & Polson were to be out of contract at years end and I guess we feel we won't get anyone better after our de-listings, but it's not as though anyone would have rushed out and picked them up. De Koning had another year on his contract. why the rush?

Anyway, good luck to guys, but I don't recall us sticking our necks out so early and so often as we have done, in the past couple of years.
Agreed. Hopefully they're front loading all of these contracts.

To be fair, it was a very average draft and there really aren't that many decent players picked after Boek. McLean, Langdon, McGovern or Blakely would have been handy
I think the Rainbow selection at 28 was worse with 3 of those 4 still available

I'll bite on this.

The easy choice at pick 10 was Fogarty.

As a talent, Fogarty represented everything that we needed at Carlton. He was a high end prospect who at one stage was expected to be drafted in the top two or three in the draft. For a young man playing in a team trying to make finals he's had a pretty solid year.

I can see why the draft room would have been surprised that we didn't select him. However, he had had made claims that he never wanted to leave Adelaide and regardless of which non-South Australian team drafted him they would waste two years of development in a young player before shipping him home.

Instead, we drafted O'Brien. O'Brien had been rated as being in the Dow, Cerra, LDU group of mids in the draft until injuries slowed down the hype machine. He had a prestigious kick and was a noted high end user of the ball.

If there were any queries it was that we didn't have the guts to select Fogarty. In the end, however, SOS will be proven to be right.

As far as TDK goes, yes, that was an arguable reach. However, when you've already drafted in your two gun mids and you view TDK as a potential first round talent you're able to take a reach in the hope that it works out. He's had a better year in the VFL than a number of players selected ahead of him and most afterward.

I was in a younger age group than DVR's father figure. A good friend played with and against him and is close to the family. Going into the draft I was told to be hopeful for him being drafted towards the end of the draft. This, through my friend, is what the family were advised. To say that I was both delighted and shocked when we drafted him so early was an understatement. Allegedly he and his family were too. I think he would have done much better had he been drafted where he thought he'd be (the Clem Smith or Jayden Foster spot in the 60s) with lower expectations and demands. He was always going to be a slow burner. Unfortunately, being drafted in the second round and put into that type of situation was not good for him and he was unable to come on as quickly as he wanted to. Of course, he made it easy for SOS to delist him as part of the out of contract deadwood.

That's what I thought on the night, until I went back and had a good look at TDK pre his 2017 injury.
Good to now know he has his head screwed on properly, also.

I guess some may say that if we wanted a tall, why didn't we take Hayes and I guess only time will tell, but given what I've seen of TDK so far this year, Im not disappointed at all. Clearly, the CFC are pretty buoyant on him also, given the early contract extension.

I speak constantly to someone that sits on a draft table and has sat on a draft table for the past three drafts - it’s not Brisbane as everyone seems to speculate.

If you don’t want to hear what they have to say fine.

Bit harsh calling someone full of shit - but it seems those personal attacks are allowed around here.

As well as personal messages calling me a dickhead - which is both harsh and gutless (you know who you are).

It seems if someone posts something here that is not to the liking of the “clique” then personal ganging up attacks are the way to go.

Quoting Seargent Hulka in the movie “Stripes”

“Gutless Punks!!!”

I was very high on Hayes myself more so than TDK who wasn't really on my radar aside from being related to the De Koning's who are friends of my ex. He was someone that piqued my interest early. I went ahead and asked questions about him to those I know. Allegedly, when running players through their physicals a number of clubs did not like a structural anomaly in one of his legs. Given that:

A) He dropped from being a highly hyped top 20 pick all of the way to pick 47 and then
B) Suffered two minor leg-related injuries over the summer and preseason before tearing his ACL in June

I can believe the allegations.
